Haven't played Ultima, but The Witcher for sure. People here hype it up so much when it does so many things terribly. I didn't even find it enjoyable the majority of the time.

its a good game, but a lot of the PC fanboys massively over hype it, probably due to the fact it contains the only set of boobs they've seen

The last 5 minutes of Mass Effect 3. Also, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance cos I was young and dumb and thought it would be Baldur's Gate 3... instead of an awesome hack and slash game.

After the masterpiece that was Demons Souls, Dark Souls let me down. Hard. Wasn't half the game that Demons was. I hope they go back to what made Demons so good instead of limiting how many spells you can cast, etc...

texasgoldrush. For once, I can certainly say with conviction, that you're right on the money. Loadsemoney. And indeed that SpoonyExperiment Ultima series and IX was fantastic, the end of the IX video - the story about his brother - was pretty damn gut wrenching. Good post man.

The Mass Effect series, on paper it sounds like my ideal game, it had insane hype, I was shocked at how meh the game actually was. All 3 of them.

Dragon Age: Origins What an uninspiring game. It takes its generic setting and poor writing, only to wear it like it's some sort of badge of honor.

The Witcher 2 - to be released in that sort of buggy state, after what we went through with the original game, it was very ordinary. I think that developer gets way to much credit for their "support" when they release stuff that isn't ready.

Any Zelda game, you take your pick. I have 5 Zelda games in my house and all sucked to the point I couldn't bring myself to finish them. I never have understood the love for the series. The games are so damn boring. Wind Walker takes top prize for crappiest Zelda game in my book.

Easily. "yay there's a sequel to dragon age!" "What? It's not even the same character..? It's not a true sequel, just a side-story happening during DAO that no one cares about..? The combat and visuals are even worse than the first..?" "****"

Resonance of Fate is the only RPG I stopped playing after less than an hour and go a refund. The combat was unncecessarily complicated, and I didn't have the will to perservere.

dommeus

I had the same problem too, except I kept trying to get into it for several hours, I got stuck at a boss and I still hadn't figured out the stupid combat system. There was no story, no character development and I just flat out lost interest.

I'm talking about The Witcher, not Witcher 2. I refuse to pay more than $5 for The Witcher 2 because of how bad I thought the first one was.

For me it would have to be either The Witcher or The Witcher 2.

I simply cannot find the appeal in these games. I paid full price, frothing at the mouth to finally dive into these games and get engrossed in the world and characters and..

it never happened.

MLBknights58

Your blood must have turned to dust, and your soul a mere echo if the Witcher 2 disappointed in any way :|

Anyway I'm gonna have to go with Dragon Age 2. I loved DAO despite the ass-trocious graphics. DA2 suffered the EA infection of being rushed and under developed. especially with those recycled environments and cheap transition screens. Lets hope they learned their lesson with DA3 and give Bioware the proper development schedule to produce a finished product.

Yeah, he got it right on the mark. Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 may be bad as RPGs, but they are good games, more so applied to ME2. Though i hear DA2 with all the DLC is great aswell.

Ultima 9 is a attrocious game all around. A actual insult, with no exageration, towards the fans. A broken mess of a 'game' with a broken story.

I agree mostly, though I honestly don't think I can call DA2 a good game. It's not bad, just to me a solid example of everything that can go wrong when smart people make bad decisions developing a game; generally I think it's pretty mediocre. Tons of games worse than it out there though, not bad by any stretch of the imagination (even if there are some terrible things in it). Honestly I think ME2 is actually really good, I'm surprised it cops so much flack. It's not the glorious sequel that does everything better than the first, but it sure as hell was tons more focused and tighter. I'm still baffled Ultima 9 actually hit shelves in its current state, when you consider how atrocious it is Bioware fans out crying over Mass Effect 3's ending or DA2's gross changes seems like something utterly trivial compared to that mess of a game.

[QUOTE="texasgoldrush"]Easy...while there are worse RPGs out there, none are more disappointing than... Ultima IX EA is partially to blame, but Origin gets most of the blame. EA is responsible for rushing the game, making it nearly unplayable at launch, but they did not write such a idiotic story that not only pissed on the lore of past Ultima games, but broke the themes of the series. Sorry, but thats all on Origin, Garriott, and the writers. Even if the game was rushed to hell, you can't excuse idiot writing and gigantic plot holes. Origin also dragged their feet, scrapping and restarting Ultima IX, with four versions. Cannot blame EA for most of the design decisions of the team, or the fact that they kept rebooting it. Maybe EA just cut their losses. And one of the greatest, if not the greatest RPG series ends in a massive epic fail. While the dungeons were actually great and the music was awesome, everything else sucks. SpoonyExperiement has a great video series on Ultima IX and just how bad it is.

Mass Effect 3. Story telling was awful.

I played Dragon Age 2 in its vanilla state some time ago, and i wouldn't call it a good game either. But friends of mine, that agreed with me on this vanilla version, told me that the game is actually good with all that downloadable content added. I haven't checked myself because i'm really burned out on Bioware games.. But it's curious to me anyhow.

At this point in time I'd like to lean towards Mass Effect 2. It put me off from the whole series. I could play 3, but I hated 2 so much that I want nothing to do with 3.

If not Mass Effect 2 than Fallout 3.

The mechanics in FO3 are fine, but it's everything surrounding those mechanics that let me down. Thankfully, Obsidian redeemed the series with New Vegas.

Only one I can think of is Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It had some interesting ideas with the panel system and the missions layout, but in the end the panel system became a mess and the missions became a bit too repetitive. Also the combat was clunky as hell and I just wasn't a fan of the story, even through I did like the interaction between Axel, Roxas, and Xion. I did like that you can play any of the Organization XIII members through and co-op was okay.
