There was no $400 model there was no 2nd sku,it was $500 take it or leave it,MS removed Kinect from a number of units and dropped the price by $100,you can say the price drop was because they removed kinect and you will be right what you can't say is that it wasn't a price drop because it was.

The media sold it like that including this site which saw it as a price drop,so did Forbes and many other sites,you could only get one for $500 in May now you can get one for $350 yeah that is a price drop no matter what measure they took to achieve it.

Don't talk about insecurities when MS is selling the xbox one for as much as $170 less than in may,with 2 free games and a $50 gift card.

Anything Halo or 343 can't be consider a hit any more,since they took it the series has go down.

That is the problem they aren't making any profits on the xbox dude the xbox one actually eat away the xbox 360 winnings mush like the PS3 did with the PS2 ones on 2007.

Pulling money from other divisions to cover the hole is what MS has been doing since 2001,it hasn't work and investors inside MS want MS to focus on windows and services that do leave profits rather than losing its time with the xbox and Surface crap.

I think this gen is make it or break it for the xbox brand,MS wasn't expecting losses it was expecting profits or at least breaking even,and you can find that online quite easy those price drops and freebies are sending the xbox one into the money pit again,oh and the 400 million they loss on the division didn't account September,October,and specially not November and December were the losses grew do to freebies and price drops.

Not really the fact that Halo came out for the holidays has bumped up sales and the fact it had to have a price drop just a year after it came out got people to buy, the PS4 doesn't need a price drop because it's still selling well, just because the X1 outsold it doesn't mean that the PS4 isn't selling and 2 months out of 12 is still bad and the problem is going to persist for X1 they have no games scheduled for the first half of next year and nothing is even concrete for the next part of the year, Phil even said it himself, he may have to push games into 2016 because there's to many which means there is nothing except third party until holiday season next year. the PS4 on the other hand are sitting nicely with a steady flow of sales, until we hit Feb when The Order comes out which will boost sales again and then March is up next with BloodBourne being pushed out, then we have Uncharted and Tearaway Sony has a good plan, they have scatter there exclusives frew out the year to keep the flow going and your forgetting Sony are still sitting on a price drop so that will bump up sales, the X1 is not better value for money, and if you shop around you can get great deals for a PS4 and games for the same amount as an X1 and just one game.

The fact most of the X1 exclusives have come out on PC in the end as well also dampens my thoughts on buying one.

It isn't that Sony is Arrogant to price match, the only reason Microsoft Lowered the price in the first place is because it isn't selling well enough for them, so they had to, Sony doesn't need to because the price is right for what you get, really the X1 should be lower in price anyway due to the tech inside is of lower spec than the PS4 in the first place, doesn't mean it's a bad console because it isn't, but I don't see the X1 growing in numbers passed this holiday season when Sony have there exclusives hitting sooner.

Can't answer the question can you El Tormented? How much if I wanted to purchase the XOne WITH Kinect? Can I buy it for $400? Can I buy it for $350? Why not? Didn't it have multiple price cuts? If that's true then I should be able to purchase the XOne with Kinect for those magical price cuts you keep bringing up. Oh that's right El Tormented, I can't. Do you know why I can't? When I get ready to repurchase it will be the Kinect bundle. I don't hate on it as much as you do and I don't mind the $100 price difference either.

The % of people buying without will definitively be higher since its cheaper. If they offer a Halo5 bundle without it, I may tray mine in.

Good choice on the PS4 purchase for your kids. They are going to have a great Christmas. I remember getting a new console when I was a kid. Best Christmas ever.

I have owned a PS4 since launch. There's a lot of fun to be had. Congratulations. Get PSN+, a lot of indies and stuff for starter games to keep them busy. Till they can build their library. Lego games are fun too. Minecraft is a no brainer. The differences from last to this gen are drastic. Load times / draw distance.. 80% better at least.

and sony came back with price drop bundles too. still at 400 but with 2 games. I also seen the regular PS4 drop as low as 329.99 not bundled and the destiny bundle just dropped 50 bucks as well. every company has sales on the holidays :)

MS isn't loosing that much money on the systems without the kinect. The system including the kinect cost about 471, the Kinect itself about 75. So the build cost is about 396 for the system without. They were loosing about 70 dollars when it was down to 329.99, but at 349.99.... not that big of a loss at all. Games is what makes them the money anyway. The two assassin creed games don't add too much to it, to be honest. Promotional, marketing deals...ext... probably cover the cost or close to it. Giftcards are nothing, that's why they are given out so much during this time of the year. Cause generally, you give a giftcard and the cx will spend more then whats on it.

Considering the uptake in sales on the system itself, plus all the software sales that increased for the Xboxone. I'd imagine that MS came out ahead profit wise with the xbox division in November.

MS warranty was 3 years idiot,once you RROD and your unit was fix you didn't get 3 more years,you get what was left of your time,MS started the extended warranty in july 2007,4 months before the xbox 360 was 2 years old,by the time the 3 year warranty kicked in 2005 owners only had left 1 year and 4 months of warranty dude.

Those xbox 360 keep RROD all gen long while they were been produce,only the slim 360 fixed that problem the slim 360 was introduce on late 2010,which mean that before that all 360 sold basically for the first 5 years were prone to RROD all fat 360 are.

It is a design flaw and while latter models lasted long they were still prone to it and only the slim fix it.

The PS2 DRE issue wasn't even close to RROD the difference was that the PS2 was bigger in numbers than the xbox 360 ever was,in fact by its 5 years already 100 million were sold,but wait the xbox had dre to since launch,it just sold so bad that it wasn't as big as the PS2,but wait the PS2 DRE issue was easy to fix and you could do it your self i did,.i repair mine and the lens cost me like $25 RROD were broken and period once RROD you had to send them in.

Also the Wii DRE,the CG,DC,XBO360,PS3,PS4 and XBO and PC all optical drives are prone to DRE the more you use it the more it goes away and we all know how the PS2 was full of games by the truck load.

Learn what DRE was then talk you idiot comparing DRE with RROD is a stupid thing to do 50% of the PS2 didn't fail on the spot like the xbox 360 did,oh and it was after heavy use that the PS2 will suffer from it not on launch.

I had a RROD replaced once by Microsoft. I bought out of pocket 3 or 4 360's I can't remember... and 2 PS3s. YLOD and replaced it with the first slim.

All are gone now except one of the 360's.

I used to have to turn my PS1 upside down for it to read disks. :D

My original Xbox, Saturn and my Dreamcast were rock solid. Luck of the draw.

I have bought at least two of every PS console. I bought 3-4 360s. One was a gift though. One was trade in for the HDMI slim. The one that broke RROD, Microsoft fixed. The others that I traded in may have broke. I don't know. I'm sure they did.

Any console with moving parts will die and have problems,in fact that same friction is what causes the PS1 read problems as the lens was getting extra heat from the to close PSU,which cause the lent to not read directly the disc so if you turn it upside down it worked better also worked for skipping FMV.

Every console with optical drive will suffer from DRE as well,up until now i have experience it on all my platforms even the Saturn,PS1,GC,DC,PS2,PS3,wii,xbox,xbox 360 and i am sure it will happen to my PS4 eventually,and PC drive damn like 10 i have bough since 2000.
