Thats one helluva an opinion right there

How does that negate the million other improvements already made to a largely perfect controller?
Yeah, it doesn't. A minor inconvenience.

Â
if it were 'perfect' it wouldnt need improvements
Â
and come on, still using AA batteries in 2013?Â
Â
dont be an apologist
Durr, I'm not being an apologist, I already addressed the AA battery situation in the OP. I figured that was enough moaning and it was time to move on and/or to identify ways around it. It's inconvenient but I think it's safe to say it can be overlooked in the face of the plethora of improvements. Use a USB cable. Buy a good set of rechargeable AAs. Buy a cheap third party play and charge. Yeah, you shouldn't have to, but you do.
So maybe try and focus on the many things they've built upon in the controller. Every journo who's had hands on time with the controller has expressed excitement. Talking about AA batteries is a bit boring now.
Is it really a big issue for you? Really?
Â
You claim that the 360 controller was perfect and then go to great lenghts to pontificate about the 'plethora' of improvements, my advice, pick a rhetoric and stick with it.
I really like the Xbone controller I plan to get it for a PC if ever hould I decide to get into PC gaming.
Honestly I am not 100% clear on the MS direction with the batteries, if you have other options thats great, either way you look at it, spending 100 million on R&D for a controller is psychotic
Â
Â
wha? This is really stupid. I mean, who the hell spends 100 million dollars to make a controller? That amount of money is like 50% off the money M$ has in total.Â

lol, in fairness I was using the word perfect a bit lightly. Obviously there will always be areas to be improved upon.
What I meant is that it's difficult to find fault with the 360 controller, aside from the two elephants(D-Pad and AA batts). Everything else is quite flawless, and the Xbox One controller has built upon the 360 pad, not just ironed out problems (because there were few). You can improve upon perfection.

I wouldn't say that. You underestimate the value of a good controller. I know people that choose the 360 over PS3 only because they liked the controller more for games like CoD which kinda explains the popularity of CoD in that console. In the end that game sold a lot of consoles for MS, more then their own exclusives.Â
Maybe 100 million is too much, especially for an iterative controller but they spent 9.2 billion in R&D in 2012. They're the kind of company that "wastes" money on R&D.
Before I say anything I need to know how much Sony Spent. If Sony spent only a fraction of what Microsoft spent and word going around is the PS4 controller is more comfortable, That guy that decided to spend that much needs to fired, quick.

anecdotal evidence, etc

but it is psychotic, most corporations are.Â
Â
The 360 was a fine controller spending 100 million to 'perfect' it is ridiculous,
$100 million could easily be the cost of retoolign the dies for even the slightest of changes. Â But since we know that they added rumble everywhere and chagned the look, its 100% a new tool die (and they don't use just one die in one plant). Â I'm sure the research portion was hardly 1 million worth of employee costs and equipment.

I wish my DS3 had the option to use AA batteries, if it did i would'nt have to replace or buy a new battery online for the one that just died.
You are officially the first person I know of, who's DS3 battery died. I bought my PS3 launch day, still have the sixaxis from then and it works like a charm. The controller looks really nice. The rumble feature sounds really cool. Just too much money to spend though :/

Yeah he must have been mistaken, the ds3 is made with nuclear power, it's clinically impossible for the battery to die. Oh and making a big deal about batteries even though you could buy ( or most likley already own) rechargable ones.
I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more grasping in the coming months.

I love a hyperbole as much as the next guy, because if other controllers dont use AA batteries they must be powered uranium right?
though I dont recall ever saying anything lasts forever, I like the little jab with 'grasping at straws' It really punctuates the irony in your post

sometimes electronic devices stop working, who knew?ÂTragedy.
They spent that much and they still felt compelled to release a product that requires AA batteries. The other features seem neat, but what other "cutting-edge" consumer electronic device requires AA batteries? 180 waiting to happen.
and still AA batteries :lol:legalize82And as a person that is buying the PS4 and not the X1, I like the AA battery idea better than having to plug my controller in to charge it. In order to keep your PS4 gaming experience wireless at all times, you will need two controllers. :D
 at the desperation from the cows to try and make the battery non-issue and issue. This is why I don't tell people that I own a PS3 too often. I wish the PS4 was going to be using AA batteries so that I don't have to take my WIRELESS controller and turn it into a WIRED controller just to charge it. Would much rather just swap out the rechargeable batteries for a fully charged set while the game is pause instead of having to sit close to the TV with a wire hanging from my controller than somebody could trip over, which any gamer knows is a common thing to have happen when playing with a wired controller.AmazonTreeBoa
my only gripe about the ps3 controller is how short the wire is. the controller becomes useless for me if i need to charge it while playing something.
