[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]Not that I like Activision, but why? Just because PC gamers feel entitled? So because Activision charged $60 instead of $50, and didn't have dedicated servers, that gives 4 million people the right to steal their property? Two wrongs dont make a right, and this just perpetuates PC gaming's problems. Not that I am justifying piracy but... serves Activision right.

Specifically to make a point, I'm sure.
I heard of some people pirating it just to spite Activision, and inflate the piracy rates for the game.
I mean no other game comes close to the amount that this game was pirated. They did it because IW stabbed the fanbase in the back.
I'm with foxhound on this one. Serves them right. I wouldn't say that in any other circumstance.
If You want to show piracy numbers this is really the wrong game to use though. This is more a victory than a loss.
[QUOTE="forza420"]why would anyone Pirate such a horrible game?Arach666One can only wonder... Atleast 1 million of those 4 did it just to kick activision in the balls. They probably hate the game too.

Agreed. They pirated the game to make a point. And looking at the numbers on PC, I think they more than made it.It has been the top selling game on steam for a few months now, so Im sure it has sold more than 290k. As of right now the Stimulus Package is #1 in steam, and #2 is MW2.
Thats what they get for overcharging for dlc on pc.. and by that I mean charging more than zero dollars
it was pirated 4 million times, so yah[QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"][QUOTE="SamiRDuran"]thats impossible i've seen 200.000 active players at onceSLI_Gamer
maybe he has seen them in infinity.net, without dedicated servers it shouldnt be possible.
But it is, (NO NOT PROMOTING LEAVE ME ALONE ! :P) .... one of the few FPS you can playo n official servers without a legit CD Key.... because IW.net was the biggest failure in existance.Pretty sad. I think PC should not have any more games.Mr_CumberdaleThat's why PC is getting the most exclusives with the highest budgets.
You are completely missing the point here? USA retail numbers mean ****. Activision were very happy with PC sales, and it's still in steams top ten. Maybe it's not ten million like Xbox version but it's somewhere arround two million which are pretty good numbers.
[QUOTE="brandontwb"][QUOTE="muscleserge"]Thats retail, in US. I just checked STEAM and it is at the #2 spot in the top seller list, and has been in the top sellers since release, I bet it sold way more than that in US if one were to include DD sales into that figure.GeneralShowzerThis.... It also said RETAIL purchases, I doubt Steam DLs counted. It isnt only steam there are numerous Digital Download services like that. Take into account that USA is behind in PC gaming from Europe or Asia those numbers are not legitimate at all. And who is that site anyway? People should report this thread for false information.

I like your Mass Effect 2 sig where did you get it ? On topic, Im sure the game has sold 2+ million on PC by now. Its probably some fanboy site reporting those fake numbers of retail only and not stating about DD sales. The game is horrible i bought it the retail version since i like to collect and own the boxes and what a waste of money it is.
Also...stumbled across this earlier http://www.joystiq.com/2010/05/10/one-quarter-of-humble-indie-bundle-downloads-were-pirated/Ravensmash
 they have no shame at all!!!!! Stealing from charities.

Not going to bother reading back pages, but are you defending or downplaying piraiting, after arguing all day yesterday about mp having a activation code that will hurt used game sales?

But that´s not trolling?
Bah,I´ve been moded for much less than this.
This thread was created to bash the PC and focus only on a very small number of sales report while blatantly omiting every other possible sales source(DD and retail on all other countries in the world) just for ownage.

Funny how the bad guys are the ones enforcing DRM or Sony removing other OS. You look at the money lost here and realize that piracy is a much bigger problem.-ArchAngeL-777-
true, but DRM is a TERRIBLE (especially from Ubisoft) idea... all it does it create hassles for legit buyers and gives the publisher WAY too much control of the product you lawfully bought
I thought PC gaming was supposed to be cheaper than console gaming. Why don't PC gamers have enough of teh monies to buy MW2 for $60 instead of pirating it?Mark36111
Many bought it through direct download (Steam etc), which isn't reflected in the total sales figures.
Also, those download numbers do not equal total sales lost, ie, a full 4 million.
Wow that is horrible! PC Gaming dies a little more every day, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves

I agree completely, but what else are the developers supposed to do? They are not the ones stealing the games the public are, they have to do something, sucks us legit buyers get punished for it but thats how it is. At work if some dumb*** steals company time or tools or wreaks something, WE ALL GET PUNISHED as a whole by corporate, by new rules that are put in place to try and make sure it dosent happen again.

what are companies supposed to do? i dont know, if they put me on the payroll i would try to figure something out instead of this 'draconian' (as pc gamer puts it) DRM that they have installed in PC games
its so bad, that PC gamer magazine does not recommend ANY game that has Ubisoft's DRM
just because you dont like what they did to the game gives pc gamers no right to steal peoples hard work. if you dont like what they did dont buy it. if you hate it so bad why are you stealing it?
People who pirate it don't hate it. MW2 was insanely popular. Sales were very high, and so was piracy. On PC and on the 360 too. 260, 000 is an NPD number which has zero credibility when it comes to PC gaming.just because you dont like what they did to the game gives pc gamers no right to steal peoples hard work. if you dont like what they did dont buy it. if you hate it so bad why are you stealing it?

360 owners stole almost 1 million copies. I really wish people would also include the DS, Wii and 360 when discussing piracy.
or you could just answer instead of skirting around it. why do they deserve it?[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"][QUOTE="foxhound_fox"] If you have to ask, then it´s because you don´t know much about PC gaming.

MicrosoftMethod of attack: Hackers remove the Xbox 360's DVD drive and tweak the OS to permit the use of "backup copies." For PC titles, they circumvent copy protections and share them on torrent sites.
Most-pirated titles:Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PC), 4.1 million copies; (Xbox 360), 970,000 copies
While Activision should have considered the backlash with the PC community, that is a pretty pitiful ratio.mo0ksi
It is shameful, but it's pretty obvious that half of those pirated were due to spite Activision and IW due to lack of dedicated servers. What's even more shameful is that 970,000 Xbox 360 users pirated it for no apparent reason other then being selfish ****s.
or you could just answer instead of skirting around it.
why do they deserve it?WilliamRLBaker
You mean a game that was stripped down of most of it´s features just so it could be equal to the inferior version?
When you do that, that´s what happens. When you do a proper PC game(Crysis for instance, sold around 2 million copies retail ONLY,and it´s not even close to the PC best sellers...)things like this don´t happen, never at this scale.
