There is a certain side of Japanese anime/games I do not delve into...
peterw007
The transgendered child-molestation side?
Or the tentacle rape?
Both are valid sides of the same coin, my friend.
Don't forget the shows/games with like 20 girls that all look like they're preteens.
Now that's just messed up.
Mmmm, fresh meat.
Seriously though, it's freaky and nasty. I like women to look like women. I don't go on power-trip fantasies of frail little bodies snapping in two.

Yep, I agree.

I'll be getting this game. It's a shame that there are so many fools in this thread who won't give it the time of day simply because of how it looks. Perhaps you lads should open your minds to new things?

I don't think it's a matter of opening your mind to something new...
It's about principle.
This gameplay design looks dated and the art style looks slightly disturbing.
Most Japanese people would agree with the people on this forum...
There are just some Japanese companies (like Nippon Ichi) who just can't seem to learn.
Nintendo learned. From Software learned. Platinum Games learned. Sega learned.
So why can't you learn, Nippon Ichi?

Especially considering that Nippon Ichi's target audience is male adults.

Nippon Ichi does the best they can with the amount of money that's available to them. They make fun, creative, and addictive games with an unmatched level of charm. What do you even mean when you say those other companies "learned"?Don't even listen to people that bad mouth Nippon Ichi and their games. People either like them or they hate them, there's really no middle ground and no way to debate about it. People that have the predetermined dislike for the developer and their games based upon the look of the characters aren't exactly the people that are going to come around and see eye to eye with you.
I'm like you and love Nippon Ichi and their games. My friend introduced me to Disgaea 1 and 2 on PS2, and as someone who really likes strategy RPGS dating back to my first experiences with Final Fantasy Tactics, I can say that it is a dying genre, but still one that I really enjoy and I am really happy that Nippon Ichi continues to make them. The games are so unique, well made and fun. There's really nothing else like them out there. They have such a distinct personality, and that's just a skin deep analysis of the game.
The real meat of these games is within the core gameplay. I honestly would be hard pressed to find a game that offers more value than a Disgaea, or a Phantom Brave. Level caps of 9999, damage capable of reaching the millions, thousands of different weapons and armors, and overall just great strategy RPG gameplay with so many elements involved.

I've played Disgaea before...I know full well the kind of deep / hardcore RPG gameplay that Nippon Ichi has offered in the past.
That still doesn't change the fact that I can't in good conscience play a game like this around my friends or family...they would get weirded out very quickly.
Also...this isn't Disgaea. We have no idea if Nippon Ichi will incorporate deep/strategic elements into this title.
It may just be a mindless hack-and-slash with mild RPG elements and a creepy art style.

Then NISA should thank Gust for having me as a fan lol, if it wasnt for Ar Tonelico i wouldnt even know what NISA is. NIS been always more of a disgaea only but with PS3 they been branching out heck they announced 2 PS3 games already

It's obvious you don't know much about the game and neither do I. The difference is, I'm not going to declare the game a failure and completely remove it from my radar just because of what a character looks like. I just think that is a bit shallow.

Well I have an apartment and a spouse...there isn't much privacy here. If I purchased that game, I wouldn't be able to play it at all without feeling very awkward.
So to me: yes, this game is a failure because of its art style.
Especially on a public platform like the PS3.
If it was on a handheld (and it certainly could be with those graphics), I might be more receptive to it.
it is interesting for sure i wish that NISA would have some decent cutscenes though instead of all the dam reading they make you do, i think thats there one flaw...i mean rhapsody was awesome but it wasnt NISA's title at first it was Atlus's so thats probably why it was so awesome...id like a jrpg with cutscenes i could actually enjoy instead of read...regardless the plot seems interesting if and wen we get it :)
I do feel bad for joking on a game simply for the way it looks. It annoys me to no end when I see people blindly hate on great games on the premise of "they look kiddie".
But I have to be a hypocrite I guess, cause seriously, a lot of these jrpgs have puke inducing art direction.
I can put aside my dislike for visuals be it outdated tech, or poor art direction if the gameplay is good enough, but sometimes too much is too much.
lol @ people getting defensive.
If you and the few hundred people enjoy these niche games, why would it bother you that the vast majority don't?
Yes, most people are turned off by its aesthetics. Does that make them close-minded? No. They just share views that most people do.

Haha who knows?
Its not that I need a dark game either. And I dont need action in my rpgs. I'm not one of those guys at all.
I don't have a particular styIe of visuals that I like. Colorful and vibrant is cool with me just as Dark and grim works as well. Those are broad descriptions though. Some art styIes just dont sit well with me.
I think this game looks like ass, but to be fair I think the Gears games look equally stupid.
