This sure is one successful thread just for one game. Leave it to Finalstar to get as many posts as he can for a game genre that a lot of people here will bash. Then again, it doesn't look very hard.Pvt_r3d
Well people like to pick on him in his threads.
It seems extremely easy to do so, so it's no wonder the threads are popular. I imagine much entertainment has been had so far.

It's obvious you don't know much about the game and neither do I. The difference is, I'm not going to declare the game a failure and completely remove it from my radar just because of what a character looks like. I just think that is a bit shallow.
finalfantasy94
Well I have an apartment and a spouse...there isn't much privacy here. If I purchased that game, I wouldn't be able to play it at all without feeling very awkward.
So to me: yes, this game is a failure because of its art style.
Especially on a public platform like the PS3.
If it was on a handheld (and it certainly could be with those graphics), I might be more receptive to it.
so its a failure cause your embarrassed to play in front of others. That makes zero sense.
It's a failure in my eyes. It's not a failure in yours...I get that.
But I'm pretty sure most people here also wouldn't want those strange characters on their living room TV with their friends.
"Hey guys, I just got this great game!"
"Dude what is it?"
"It's called (extremely niche Japanese game with a homosexual-looking main character)! You guys wanna watch me play it?"
Yeah no.

some are cute/adult/anime style like this:
Some are serious/dark/bloody like demon souls or this:

I fail to see the similarity between WRPGs except that they were not made in Japan and that goes to japan too does Xenoblade play like tales series or like Ys games? JRPG and WRPG refers to the country which the game was made at not to the type of the RPG thats why we have Action RPGs and other kind of RPGs to defferntiate between each kind of RPG.

mostly jrpg aimed for teens thats why their graphics are more like anime....thats why some gamers on US hate because its a waste of time
to introduced it than playing same game online on net over and over.......thats why its a pain who doesnt know wat the game aiming for
its theme for fun than serious gaming online COD or watever related violence game

Yeah, I'm not really seeing these reasons sticking to be honest. Games can be a social experience, but merely offers the possibility vs. being a requirement. I mean the game is single player and all, and if people wish to watch you for whatever reason that is dandy and all. Yet, I would think that perhaps you would be above the notion of simply being "embarassed" versus having personal enjoyment out of a product. Thus, in the end, it seems to be more a question about you and upholding some sense of image versus the actual game itself.
And the game will be crap.
As soon as I saw finalstar's username, I knew it was going to be some overly Japanese game that is going to end up bad, just like all of the other overly Japanese games.

It's not my image...it's the image of people in general--people who are not used to strange, niche Japanese games--who don't want to be ostracized by playing those types of games.
Most people, whether they live in Japan or not, just find these kinds of games uncomfortable purely based on the art style, whether they are alone or not.
Yes, you are able to see the game underneath the creepiness. I bet you feel really special.
But most people can't do that.
That's why these kinds of games don't sell 2 million copies...they're niche games intended specifically for a really, really small audience of like 20,000 nerds in Japan. The same people who love watching the really strange Anime shows (not the good ones...the strange ones).
Niche games are only attractive to a niche audience. Anyone outside of that niche feels uncomfortable while playing them.
It's as simple as that.
Not really. It doesnt have to do with not liking it. It has to do with your sexuality being called into question if you DO like it.Is it just plain closed minded to have absolutely no interest in anything that has that art style?

Um, no, no I don't feel reallllly special. I just don't worry about how my social image will look when I'm doing the things I enjoy. I just find it kind of odd to try and shoot the game down when in your sig you "proudly support the kiddy, weird, and beautiful." Do you not like Bayonetta for example, because that would be a game not to show around the family. It's one thing to say that those style of games don't interest you, but to go on and say, "oh I would be embarassed and couldn't play this around my friends", well, I guess I can't agree with you on that. I mean really, fear of being ostracized? Is this middle school or something where if you don't enjoy what the popular kids are liking you will be kicked out of the cliques?
Yes you are right, these type of games are really niche, for many reasons. Sadly, I just find your reasons hollow for not liking the game. This isn't me saying that I'm going to jump online and buy the game when it comes out (actually I probably won't buy it, but that's because the game doesn't seem interesting to me, especially with the story versus me worrying about what my friends would think if they saw me playing it).

Weird stuff (I love watching Saturday morning cartoons).

But when you start to delve into the niche Japanese stuff...you start to come across all sorts of bizarre fetishes.
That's when it crosses the border from weird to creepy.

I'm not going to enjoy something if the people who are close to me won't enjoy it with me.
Let's say 5 people in America do love and want to buy this game for some reason.
Are they going to play it with their wife? With their parents? With their friends?
Nope...they'll just be completely alone.
And honestly, that's not what gaming is about for me and millions of other people.

Agreed, JRPGs have really grown stagnant this gen. At least the console ones. Those JRPGs you mentioned still have that weird feeling to them and have unique artstyles and what not but I've been seeing a lot of console JRPGs this gen that just look borderline loli.
