Personally, I think Sony is trying to brick all launch ps3s and as such completely remove B/C. Afterall, this is only affecting the treys people have owned and used for several years.

tomarlyn

my Jet engine 3 "my phat" gets so damn loud at times.

Its must have problems then, my 80 G Fat Boy Trey is almost silent.

Yea mine seems no louder than my 360 slim. But then again I also have surround sound system playing so I couldn't hear it even if it was a jet engine.

Not enough proof to blame the update. Besides their FAT PS3 models, their almost bound to break down in a relatively short time. The common cause of the YLOD is unavoidable mostly, it WILL happen eventually.

Yeah I never heard of new 360s having any problems?

Rockstar said both 360 and ps3 are heating up. its a problem with la noire not the firmware

My 360 has been playing L.A. Noire just fine. Played it for probably 10 hours already without a problem.

You know it could be the game.... My Ps3 is doing fine. I have a launch model as well. This thing does get louder than it used to but its been doing that for over a year now.

Probably just mass hysteria. Find something to blame... kick em while there down...

There were lots of reports of this happening when people were playing Final Fantasy XIII. That somehow that game combined with firmware was causing PS3's to die. Somehow that seems impossible to me.

Not that firmware can't brick a console in certain ways, but firmware causing them to "overheat" and die? That just sounds like old model PS3's that finally reached then end of their lifespan. It just so happens that on a popular game, you are going to have dozens or even hundreds of reports of people's consoles bricking on them when playing that certain game or after a certain firmware update. It doesn't mean there is causation.

I'm positive it's because I need to take it apart and remove the matt of dust clogging every fiber of the thing. I just need to get around to doing it is all.

Indeed ;) Incidently, dust is harmfull to electronics that needs cooling and relies on air.

I'm so glad my PC cabinet has filters placed in the intake parts of my airflow. Air goes in at the side and front ---> out of the top and back. I took it apart for cleaning for the first time in a year recently and scrutinized the thing. Even with fresh thermal copound and pressurized air, I gained no temp improvement. It sure got silent though ;)

Absolutely amazing cabinet.

That aside, people would find their consoles much more durable if they regularly cleaned them. They're not exactly made with high endurance and low maintenance in mind.

Edit: As of right now, I firmly believe that this is a case of lacking maintenance, old consoles and hysteria.

Meh, I played La Noire on my 60GB launch PS3 for about 4 hours last night and it ran fine. PS3 got really loud though, but I haven't cleaned it in forever. Might as well spray the insides before I play tonight.

its not the update.. its just that all older ps3s are ticking time bomb just like older 360s.. sony just used the myth of of them losing money to hide the the problem so they could cover it up with the ps3 slim...

This is going to get messy

So far Rockstar has confirmed that LA Noire plus other games kill older consoles with the newest patch from Sony

We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models. Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat.

There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or "Red Lighting" after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

Sounds like a normal light of dead that some PS3 experience, that happen to my fat one long ago.

Data on a hard drive causes overheating?

There are a bunch of misinformed idiots in this thread

Solquid_Snake

When a program (piece of data) uses too many resources (more than it ever should) it can very easily lead to overheating.

Not that i believe its the case here, but calling people idiots for believing something that is very possible and does happen is quite silly ...

Da_lil_PimP

Spray? As in a sort of liquid electro cleaner? Don't man.

First of all you need a can of preassurized air. Spraying any kind of liquid into a confined and dusty area is tempting fate imho. Get that dust out before you actually try to clean anything. Otherwise, you might just accumulate hardened cakes of dust in unfortunate places.

Both of my 60gig PS3's are fine after the update, and for the record, every update there is some sort of scare for consoles on Wii, PS3, and 360.

Isn't the newest 360 update hurting itself as well?

Everytime 360 updates or a new big game comes out you see forum posts just like this. I personally think it's just an unfortunate coincidence. Your PS3 or 360 probably would've died anyway. EmperorSupreme

Regardless of whether or not LA Noire is bricking consoles due to the new patch, its a completely different issue to the XBL DVD upgrade beta bricking consoles.

Because, one is a Beta test to find issues and test implementation. The other would be an unintended result of a release patch interfering with how a game operates.

And i'm glad that your glad that i'm glad that you're amused.

Because, one is a Beta test to find issues and test implementation. The other would be an unintended result of a release patch interfering with how a game operates.

And i'm glad that your glad that i'm glad that you're amused.

I'm glad you are happy for my happyiness, but there is one update here that some should consider : What do you think about the fact that L.A. Noire has issues on 360 as well? It seems Rockstar's new opus is really pushing hardware if you ask me. :P

Either way, SW is one hilarious joint.

EDIT :

Snugenz : Ah so this issue isnt related to the Beta ...

*retreats and hides*

My apologies for the other thread :P

P.S: And i must test my Elite for this, havnt turned it on it weeks ...

--------

No problemo man, SW is one fun place. :P

Actually, it hasn't been determined if the other is for a finished patch...so no, not completely different regardless of what you believe. Systems may or may not be breaking because of updates, lol.

And I'm glad you're glad that I'm amused.

Regardless of whether or not LA Noire is bricking consoles due to the new patch, its a completely different issue to the XBL DVD upgrade beta bricking consoles.

Okay, so what do you think about the fact that L.A. Noire has issues on 360 as well?

Either way, SW is one hilarious joint.

That was entirely not my point, my point (which was wrong in this particular case as the 360 issues arent related to the beta) was that both situations werent comparable. Which i still believe (if that was the case, which its not ... )

I have the update on my older 80gb MGS4 PS3 and have had no problems. The fan gets a little loud(nowhere as bad as a jet engine like the old 360's though). I have been playing UC2 online with no issues what so ever. I haven't had a chance to hook up my other 80gb PS3 which I had brought over to my ex's house a month ago but I'm sure when I do I won't have any issues there also. Those complaining about the update bricking their systems probably where going to die anyhow.
