Sorry I have heard this excuse used many a time to hide the fact that this is a bad thing because it is. Making games retard easy for lazy gamers is and always will be a method to wreck the game and dumb it down. And you don't actually know that there will be a choice in the matter. Nintendo want to make games so mind numbingly easy, they are really insulting gamer intelligence. The fact that they get so much praise saddens me.

This is definitely not the same Nintendo that made the, NES, SNES, N64, andGAMECUBE.

You don't know that and neither does it being optional disgard the fact that it will serve to break the game and make it insanely easy. I can't believe someone that obviously likes the castlevania series would agree with this method of casualization. You seriously want a castlevania where you get the option of being put in god mode and to teleport anywhere you please. Basicaly raping any boss in your path with ease. Defeating any purpose of depth the game offers such as leveling up, finding new gear, exploration. Just cause theres an option doesn't mean it's any less destroying the game.

Yeah... I don't really get the problem. If anything, they can make games even more challenging for the avid gamer with this feature since they don't have to worry about the more casual player.

Id rather them put something like this in than take a once great series and dumb it down for casuals like most people are doing.

If you dont like it dont use it. Its just. that. simple.

Exactly, well said. That way people who want the challenge will have it but those who dont care can just skip what they cant handle.

This is pathetic. I think it's important for videogames to teach children persistence, not that you can skip whatever difficulties you face. I'm against it.

This seems pretty sweet for when I'm on a second play through or when i just want to play a particular part of a game without having to play through crap to get to it.

PLEASE, let's let this thread die. Seriously guys, you've been complaining quite a bit that the latest Zeldas and Marios have been much too easy. Please understand that it is NOT all about you, and that the majority of Wii owners simply cannot cope with the difficulty you expect from games. So Nintendo, being the geniuses that they are, have come up with a way to satisfy us without making the game frustrating for more "casual" gamers. It is NOT going to kill gaming by any stretch of the imagination. /thread

They should also have an option to allow the game to play your character for you in case you just want to sit and watch.

Maybe instead of a compass they could have a universal warp button that takes you where you need to go. No need to run around in dungeons anymore.

Nintendo makes games for poons. If you still like them and are over the age of 12 then you are probably a poon too.

Wii-related threads: Bringing out the worst in SWers since 2006.

Make up your minds. Do you want the games to be more challenging or not? That's all this is going to change for the people who choose not to use the optional (lemmings, remember this word? ;)) feature. This sounds like a change made for the hardcore.

How on earth is this a change made for the "hardcore?"

It's like someone above said best, why not just have an option for the game to play itself? I mean, it's optional so that makes it fine, right?

I miss the days when you had to put in a certain code or press a sequence of buttons to unlock like an extra 20 lives or god mode. Nowadays they give you a cheats section in options and you can select what you want!

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the skip feature as long as it doesn't mean the game's difficulty will also be lowered, but it must likely will :(.

I don't understand what is wrong with this ... as stated by so many people above:

1) It's optional
2) It'll allow people with "lower" skill levels to enjoy more traditional games
3) It could lead to more difficult/challenging games without alienating the non-hardcore crowd
4) It's no different than walkthroughs and cheat codes which we have all used once in a while

Its called streamlining! Why would you rather type 20 digit codes or pressing random buttons on tht title screen? These are just barriers, like making someone type with thick gloves on.

Actually it could be helpful in some ways. To people who will never use a FAQ or anything of it's kind it could be turning point if it will forever be unfinished or skip the part and continue and playing. My sisters has no chance in completing Super Paper Mario for example because of the English language.

It's a optional method of catering to casuals. Rather than dumbing down the game itself they're including this as an OPTION for the causal gamers to choose. What about this don't you understand?

Or are you just gonna continue your paranoid "ZOMG NINTENDO IS KILLING GAMING" rant.

This is definitely not the same Nintendo that made the, NES, SNES, N64, andGAMECUBE.

Your argument is: "it's a bad thing because it is." It is optional, go read the patent. If Nintendo has this to use, they can ramp up the difficulty and still allow a broad mass to play their games. In any matter, we will find out if it works this fall with New Super Mario Bros. Wii. :)

I want it in my zelda. Maybe then Nintendo can stop making gigantic bosses that die way too easily. Maybe now they can ramp up the difficulty for the hardcore and let the casuals simply watch to see how it's done. This is actually a good learning tool also. It's another way to bridge casuals into full gamers.
