Its been in development for over 2 years now. In december Christmas it will have been 3 years in development. How high are the chances of the new Zelda being anounced?

Mario Galaxy was really great and all. But I'm personally more looking forward to a new Zelda game. I remember how in a interview Miyamoto stated that the next Zelda's will be shorter in lenght and slightly less hardcore then the previous have been. He also stated that he will take advantage of the Wii controller better this with the next one. I can't exactly find the link for the interview, but if anyone can please post it.

So what do you think? Zelda this year? Is it plausible?

IGN Podcast said: zero chance.
Still speculation though.

eh, think ill pass. After about the 15 time of playing the same mute ancestor of the same mute elf that saved the same princess's ancestor..I just lost myself..Anyway, you get my point. Im tired of Zeldas being too simular,, I think they've painted themselves into a corner because the hardcore fanbase will reject any change to the formula, and the other half are tired of the same old thing.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no!!!

Don't do this to Zelda Miyamoto! If you know what's good for the series don't do it! The games are easy enough already with not very in depth storytelling, so don't casual-fy the best series you have!

Anyways... that would be awesome to see a new Zelda shown. About the only thing that could beat it for me is a new KH shown so yeah. :D

I don't blame Nintendo for doing this, Majora's Mask was the only real hardcore Zelda game and it did not receive the recognition it deserved.

I hope so. I want a Zelda game that makes better use of the Wii Remote unlike the Twilight Princess port with waggle control.

So let me get this straight. You want Nintendo to abandon the most consistant gaming franchise in history?

See! The games are already less hardcore than they should be! Don't make it worse!

Nintendo could just balls up, make another new IP and give that to their casual market. If they do this with Zelda, it would be like an injustice to the fans that already love the series.

I know I'll be extremely disappointed if they do this, but maybe I'm overreacting.

I honestly wonder how much people would play these games if they didnt have the "zelda" name to back them.

More and more recently, zelda fails to stand out from the crowd.

Twilight Princess was AAA at IGN and averaged out at Gamerankings. Phantom Hourglass is considered the best Handheld Zelda ever made and is a Killer App for the DS.

The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker is one of the best games ever made.

lol no.

Twilight princess is AAA i know this but personally I didnt think the game was anything special. I havent played Phantom hourglass, but if it is "considered" the best handheld zelda game, something must be wrong, because it sounds very repetitive. Oracle of ages for victory.

And calling WW one of the best games ever made is a disgrace to the gaming industry. It isnt even top 20.

It's the 14th highest rated game of all time at Gamerankings (removing repeat entries). Ocarina of Time is the highest rated game of all time.

How you can say that Zelda is insignificant is beyond me. Perhaps you need to actually play it.

That is true... some of the puzzles were difficult in the game though. At the time I played the game they were that is, don't know about their difficulty for me today.

But the series could use more difficulty in its combat, not less.

Gamerankings doesnt mean anything. first of all, It doesnt have ANY GAMES released before the N64 era. Which means that in a discussion of "best of all time" you are literally missing half of gaming's history if you use gamerankings. what a joke.

Secondly, the system is broken by defualt because there is no standardization among reviews. what that means is that some games have 30-40 reviews (ocarina of time) and other have over 100. this gives an extreme advatage to the games with less reviews. If i took the top 30 Metroid prime reviews, it would probably have a higher average than OoT, but it is weakened by the 50 or so AA reviews it got.

gamerankings is not an apt method of discerning the best games ever. anyone who thinks so is kididng themselves, if only for my first reason alone.

Finally, I own and have played both WW and TP. My opinions on both stand.

Theres nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying for me its annoying to see Fifteen thousand rehashed Marios, another 15 thousand zeldas, another 15 thousand mario carts, and the list goes on and on. I mean I guess there is nothing you can do about Mario (which I did find fun until the snes version of mario world after that it just gets old), because that is their mascot. I mean come on! How many mario carts or smash brawls can you possibly have every generation before you kind of say to yourself "meh"? I'm just saying that Nintendo should move on already, I mean I know they are making money off it thats why they continue to make them, but I mean enough is enough.

No its just the fact that the game has been around for 20 something years and I believe they should retire it, just like half of the other Nintendo games that have been floating around since the 80's.

Except, there are more people who disagree with it being retired then those who want it retired. As long as Nintendo is able to make good Mario and Zelda games, there is no reason to retired it. Just because other companies have their franchises start flopping after a few iterations, doesn't mean Nintendo will follow suit. History has shown us, this is the case.

They shouldn't stop making Zelda's though.

They're making a new Kid Icarus and Disaster Day of Crisis, not including expanded audience stuff like Wii Sports 2 and Wii Music.

They only have 1 Mario Kart and 1 Smash Bros every gen.

SNES - Super Mario Kart

N64 - Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros.

GC - Mario Kart Double Dash and Super Smash Bros. Melee

DS - Mario Kart DS and...nothing

Wii - Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros Brawl

I do know what you are saying about the constant sequels, but as long as the games are good I will take them. If they would change the skin and world you are playing in in TP, but kept graphics and gameplay and level design (minus the look of the world) you would have no reason to complain about these good games, but these good games wouldn't sell as well either.

Nintendo knows these brand names are a big selling point; they aren't going to stop because some people are annoyed by the constant sequels.

It has nothing to do with other franchises or other companies at all. Thats not even what I'm basing my thoughts on. I'm just saying that the damn games have been out for way too long and to me it just seems that every console that Nintendo comes out with goes and makes about 15 series of Zeldas, mario carts, and marios before they move on to their next console. I just think either A. They have a writers block and they can't move on. or B. They don't want to make new games to match the popularity of Zelda because they are Lazy. I just think it is time to move on thats all. Not saying the games are crap I just think they need to make new material.

No Definately and I understand why they continue to make the series because people continiously by them. I don't want people think I'm attacking the series of Mario or Zelda, because I thought they were really fun when I was younger. Maybe I just have grown away from them. Hey they do good bizz with them, mine as well stay with what works. I just think that they need to turn over a new leaf thats all.

It was 2004, scheduled for 2005.

Personally, I think the only reason we might not see Zelda this E3 is if Nintendo hasn't worked on it as much as a few sources claim, which would be really disapointed - I don't expect Nintendo to ignore Zelda like that.

Drifting away from games can happen. And I definitely agree with you that Nintendo should get to work with some decent games instead of this Wii fit junk. We'll probably see some announcement of some new franchises at this year's E3 (Kid Icarus maybe?)

If Nintendo doesn't reinvent the Zelda franchise it won't be worth it. I say use the Zelda Universe but make it darker and create a different story line...and make it the hardest Nintendo game EVER made. Then maybe it will be enough to pull me away from SCII when it coems out. This is coming from a person that loves the zelda franchise too.

I doubt it. And if they do announce it they'll delay it anyway.

The next Zelda should be.... Majora's Mask 2~

No its just the fact that the game has been around for 20 something years and I believe they should retire it, just like half of the other Nintendo games that have been floating around since the 80's.

xscrapzx

I understand that you as a gamer wants Nintendo to make other IPs. Should they do that heck yeah, but not at the cost of their fans. Zelda and Mario both have a huge fan base maybe more than almost any other game on the market. How do you think that fan base would feel if Nintendo stop making Zelda games. They would feel hurt and maybe even stop buying Nintendo games altogether in protest. Yes the IP 20 years old but that 20 years of fans of the games. They want new Zelda and Mario games and the idea that Nintendo should just retire them. Is like going to DC comics and telling them they should stop making Batman comics because there been too many of them made. Or Disney and saying stop making cartoon with Mickey Mouse because they have used him to long.

It funny at best no company is going to upset their fans like that.

Im sure it won't work out this way but I hope Nintendo is working on the next Zelda as a launch game for their new console and that console be more in line power wise with what the other next gen consoles from MS and Sony will be.

Heck I would love it if they would be making it on a console in line with the 360/PS3 are doing now and no, it's not just - Teh Grx ! :)

Just no.

I don't see a problem with a Zelda game taking a darker, more mature tone. Does the game have to go darker to be mature, no, but I think the only way to make a Zelda game "darker" in the sense that PDark_Prodigy is saying is to make the game more mature and I'm all for that.

In any case, its way better than casualizing the next Zelda like the TC mentoined (first post, Miyamoto is said to have said this about the new Zelda's direction).

I honestly wonder how much people would play these games if they didnt have the "zelda" name to back them.

More and more recently, zelda fails to stand out from the crowd.

JPOBS

more and more? only TP recently. WW and PH were both great games that stood out from the crowd easily.

Even if they annonce a new Zelda that doesn't mean will see it for a few years. This is just silly. Here, let me beat Nintendo to the punch:

A new Zelda will be released for the WII (and possibly the next console because we delay games forever!).

There, I just announced it. Moving on....
