incredible story  (should have won an oscar)

lots of gameplay (i put like  150 hours into this game cause there was so much to do and cutomizing the sphere grid was fun)

soundtrack (best soundtrack ever, i bought the 4 disc collectors edition FFX soundtrack and love it.)

graphics (at the time they were amazing and still hold up quite well the artsyle is very diverse and we see all kinds of landscapes)

overall = no game can match the overall level of enjoyment I and many others had from FFX cause it was the complete package. great story, great soundtrack, great gameplay, lots of replay, great graphics. its liek palying through an oscar winning movie. the game is  that GOOD

FFX did have a really great story, although the whole Tidus-Yuna thing got on my nerves a bit.

yeah xenogears had the best story ever but it didnt feel like hte complete package for me.

it had very lackluster gameplay, and disc 2 was a mess.

the story is basically the only reason to paly it. but i must admit the story is incredible very MATURE themes beats any movie ever made easily

ill agree with xenogears

but cmon zelda OOT, chrono trigger, and zelda TP all had weaksauce stories,  compared to xenogears, and FFX.

we are talking about complete package here.

zelda OOT, and zelda TP while great have simplsitic stories.

FFVI proves you wrong. Better story, better characters, better villain, better setting, better gameplay, better artwork. But Planescape: Torment is the best RPG ever. FFVI is just the best JRPG ever. The only ones comparable are FFIV and Chrono Trigger.

FFX had a pretty lame story.  About as lame as the last two Matrix movies.  The plot 'twists' were rather ill-concieved, and the villian of the whole thing?  Please.

I think the FF series should just die off now. I mean isnt FF13 plus ff13vs like the millionth game in that series. They need to get creative and make some new IP's.

the whole game was really quite boring with the exception of terra, celes, and locke.

I liked FFX story. Tidus and Yuna love story was annoying at first (thats like the first 20 hrs in rpgs).. But then i actually started to like the love story between them because it doesnt end up being cheesy like ff8 (horrible).

And look it this way.. it doesnt end well.. any love story that doesnt end well is a great 1!! (romeo and juliet anybody?.. its really famous thats my point)

Final Fantasy X had some of the most appalling voice acting i've ever heard. It was either too over-blown or too under-delivered, in effect gimping the emotional tone Square tried to set. The lead character, Tidus, was pathetic in comparison to previous greats like Cloud or Squall, as was the brutally flawed and overly played out storyline. It dragged on in the end and became boring, with the endlessly tedious boss battles slowing everything down. It was simply an old dog begging to be shot.

well hopefully not im hoping FF13 can be great.

but FF12 for me was really weak the story was lame, and ripped of star wars in many ways.... the gamepaly i didnt like cause it didnt let you control your whole party unless you turned off gambits. and the problem with that is it took so long for battles if you did that. so the game was just very weak for me.

as far as RPGS of last gen i liked about 3 series

And Planescape does have the best story.

You bash FFVI for having only a handful of characters get any development, yet how many characters are there in FFX? The only characters not to get any development were the "secret" or "cameo" characters: Gogo, Umago, and Mog. Everyone else had detailed backstories that were explored in the narrative, and unlike most recent FFs, their character histories weren't linked by pure coincidence. Also, the stakes were higher in FFVI, the story more epic than in FFX. And what motivation does Sin have compared to Kefka? Good villains don't HAVE to have detailed motivations. Usually it's enough that they act out of personal ambition, because that's what makes them so reprehensible. Give me a break. FFVI is like an epic fantasy novel. FFX is like a lame SciFi TV movie.

I agree.

FFX nearly destroyed the whole FF series for me, lucky XII isn't a bad game.

Terrible, terrible voice acting killed the whole game. Not to mention the exclusion of the world map, and the boring sphere grid.

chrono trigger is a pretty good game,  the time travel mechanic of the whoel game was pulled off great especially for an SNES game.... the story while pretty solid just wasnt deep enough for me. everything came together really well with magnus and how he was sent back in time and how everytinh makes sense in the end..... but just not deep enough.

In short, it was perhaps the last good example of good vs evil.  Nowadays, villians need some elaborate backstory and reason to be 'evil'.  Almost all villians are a result of circumstance now.

Without counting XI (Which is disgrace), FFXII is worser than FFX, but not by very much I seriously enjoyed both games its the only default XII has is the character developpment, and FFX the linear story, but none of those made the two games "bad" as a matter of fact both games are AAA overall.

Well when I say bad, I mean bad in terms of Final Fantasy as a series. Which we all know is a good series.

Both X and XII can't hold a candle to the PS1 FFs in my opinion, but I still regard them as ok games.

the problem is you are thinking of good and evil as absolutes... they are subjective and will vary from person to person...

thats why seymour is better than kefka in that sense

seymours motivations were he thought the only way to bring peace to spira was killing everyone. the only way to eliminate pain and suffering was to be dead....  hes only doing whats hes doing for spira to take their sorrow away as he puts it.

kefka on the other hand was the generic evil guy who wanted power.

seymour wins

Also, the stakes were higher in FFVI, the story more epic than in FFX. And what motivation does Sin have compared to Kefka? Good villains don't HAVE to have detailed motivations. Usually it's enough that they act out of personal ambition, because that's what makes them so reprehensible. Give me a break. FFVI is like an epic fantasy novel. FFX is like a lame SciFi TV movie.

sin is just a big aeon like a shell for summoning dream zanarkand it had no motives of its own, because yu yevon was controlling the fayth makign them summon dream zanarkand. meanwhile he had sin as the armor to protect it...

Again: so what? This is the kind of plot device I'd expect to see in a Dungeons and Dragons book.

Seymour was a melodramatic poof. At least other villians had charisma.

Seriously.. FFX was not a very good game.  I mean, I beat it, and it had its moments.... but there are a whole slew of games I liked more (RPGs) and that I would and have played again.

I mean, Chrono Cross > FFX, for instance.

[QUOTE="TheCrazed420"]Are you kidding me? The only FF worse than X is IX. Raidea

I agree.

FFX nearly destroyed the whole FF series for me, lucky XII isn't a bad game.

Terrible, terrible voice acting killed the whole game. Not to mention the exclusion of the world map, and the boring sphere grid.

Hell yes, I have yet to see a game such as FFTactic to have such a great plot and replay value still one of the best Tactical RPG ever, a game where the char. developpement is so great (FF7) Vincent Valentine and Yuffie are OPTIONAL characters and yet they are so popular and Vincent has a whole great background story around him. And the love story of FF8 between Squall and Lenoa (Rinoa) is yet to be matched in new FF's the Tidus-Yuna was great but imo not close to the one between Squall and Lenoa (Rinoa).

I like Final Fantasy X a lot but come on, it's not even top 10 games ever. Heck, if you had a poll among final fantasy enthusiasts Final Fantasy X would probably finish 3rd (after FF6 and FF7) for best game in the series.

There is a little creep called Chrono Trigger which beats up the heck of almost EVERY RPG DONE.

tidus222

chrono trigger is a pretty good game,  the time travel mechanic of the whoel game was pulled off great especially for an SNES game.... the story while pretty solid just wasnt deep enough for me. everything came together really well with magnus and how he was sent back in time and how everytinh makes sense in the end..... but just not deep enough.

Magnus??? You mean Magus??

Come on, that game is legendary. It is one of the most open ended games ever. It really gives you possibilities without being a sandbox. FFX is good, yet, the fact that it is a linear story affects it. But Chrono has no linear adventure, you can kill characters, let them dead, let them join you, finish the game early.

Besides,  FFX final boss (not the summons) seems to be made just based on lavos.. PFFFT!

[QUOTE="mjarantilla"]FFVI proves you wrong. Better story, better characters, better villain, better setting, better gameplay, better artwork. But Planescape: Torment is the best RPG ever. FFVI is just the best JRPG ever. The only ones comparable are FFIV and Chrono Trigger.tidus222

 LOL  FFVI  HHAHAHHAHAHHAH

only like 3-4 characters even get any development   the rest are just filler, and the villian was lame kefka had no real motivation to do anything he was just a cliched crazy villian who wants to destroy things....

the whole game was really quite boring with the exception of terra, celes, and locke.

Ummm... FFVI is great, what about Gestahl and Kefka?  What about Shadow, the lone ninja?  Edgar?

And Planescape does have the best story.

The only characters that didn't really get developed in FFVI was Mog, Umaro, and Gogo.  Everyone else had a storyline, and for the most part all of their storylines were optional.  FFVI actually centers around Kefka, as opposed to the heros of the story.  As for Kefka's motivation, his was pure:  Power and hate.  He wasn't filled with angst, he wasn't emotionally torn, he wasn't the victim of some controved plot device forcing him to be a mad force of power.

In short, it was perhaps the last good example of good vs evil.  Nowadays, villians need some elaborate backstory and reason to be 'evil'.  Almost all villians are a result of circumstance now.

the problem is you are thinking of good and evil as absolutes... they are subjective and will vary from person to person...

thats why seymour is better than kefka in that sense

seymours motivations were he thought the only way to bring peace to spira was killing everyone. the only way to eliminate pain and suffering was to be dead....  hes only doing whats hes doing for spira to take their sorrow away as he puts it.

kefka on the other hand was the generic evil guy who wanted power.

seymour wins

If you're looking for a reason behind Kefka's madness, he reveals it in the end if you paid any attention at all.  He could not understand why people bothered trying if in the end all they had built and lived for could be snuffed out in a second.  He acts without empathy or remorse because in his eyes everything is ultimately pointless, empty, and shallow.  The anti-thesis to his character was all the heros, who through their travels, show you that even though many of them where empty, and felt their lives meaningless, that they in the end found their hope, their meaning.

It was a poetic dance between the two sides.

For a hero to be great, the villian must be greater.  The villain has to be so good at what he does that they force the hero to grow and over come what the villian stands for.  Otherwise you get a lame plot in where it's nothing but enlightening self-discovery and lovely dovey support from the support characters, and in the end the hero is never truely challenged to the core, to grow.  From start to finish very few FFVI characters were the same at the end.

LOL, no, we just recognize that some people are just selfish, and many of the best villains require little more than that: selfishness. Hell, even in the classics, in the greatest works of literature, you'll probably find that the best villains are not acting for much more reason than personal ambition. It's the simplest, and still the best motivation, because it's so easy to despise. They aren't tortured or angst-ridden; they're just damn greedy. One of the hardest accomplishments in storytelling is to create a truly unsympathetic character that people STILL love to read/hear about. In comparison it's relatively easy to create a sympathetic villain that's mildly likeable and mildly hateable.

I agree, Seymour shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as classic FF villains like Kefka and Sephiroth.

Also, Shadow Hearts > FFX.

This is fun.  I never really knew how much that game irritated me until now.
