3rd-rate blogs bouncing articles off each other isn't credible journalism.

So I guess they were psychic blogs right?

I mean Sony did buy Gakai

1. Gakai cloud gaming head says there is big surprise coming, one of the big 3 is leaving console gaming

2. Sony buys Gakai

Leap in logic? It just happened. You guys are so deluded but you'll eventually catch up.

Like you did with Vita when I said it was going to flop but got called a troll. Hows that going now?

I'm sure I had good reason to call you out on whatever you're accusing me off, assuming you can provide the proof/link for it. I'm enjoying my Vita very much, thank you for asking.

It's pure speculation at this point, regardless of whoever said it (much less a relatively unknown company head until its buyout).

Definitely would be a good business move for Sony. They don't have the financials to put out another console, and compete with Nintendo/Microsoft. Making a "Playstation Cloud" subscription service that is accessible on the PS3/VITA or any PC would be a great idea. The future of gaming's existence is going to be dependant on new ideas for distribution and interaction (both gameplay and devices; i.e. phones, gamepads, mice/keyboards, etc.) ... not better graphics. The industry isn't in a state where much better graphics would be sustainable. I would love to have a game that I could play at home, and then have a portable, complimentary experience that builds me resources for at home (i.e. playing short minigames on my phone to gain souls and humanity in Dark Souls).

Here is someone with a little bit of logic.

Most of the fanboys on this board would rather see Sony continue to get killed financially just so they could pander to their fanboy dreams of powerful hardware.

This is a strategy that will be a lot cheaper for them and may keep them afloat.

I don't think this is too far-fetched at all. While I do think the PS4 doing this is a bit premature, in the end it will be what will happen to gaming. It will (and slowly is) turning from a product into a service. In the not too far off future gaming will be just like cable TV. You don't need to be Einstein to see this coming. And from Sony's (or any other's) perspective, why not? There's no publishing costs, piracy wouldn't be such an issue, and their profit margins would increase.

Enjoy your physical media while you can, because rest assured one day they will be gone.

Gaikai isn't aiming at the PS4. Its aiming at SEN (Sony Entertainment Network). Gaikai's tech will allow Sony to cloud stream anything onto anything. Movies onto Bravia TV's, Games onto Xperia phones etc. Sony is an entertainment company that needs to move towards creating a compelling software/network package and buying out a great cloud company is one step that can help Sony move forward with SEN.

Wait so...let me get this straight. PS4 and 360 rumored to be launching fall of 2013. That's a year and half from now. Yet you guys all think ps4 will just be a cloud streaming service that sony just acquired...TODAY. I'm sorry but the timeline makes no sense if that's all the ps4 is going to be. It takes years to get together everything to launch a new system. Wasn't there an article awhile back sony looked at going digital only but in the end realized gamers around the world don't have the internet connection for this kind of thing yet. Given the announcement only a year and a half till supposed launch I would say this is going to be more of a service part of a larger package such as an actual console

Shuhei Yoshida, President of SCE, Just retweeted this article basically confirming what I just posted. PS4 will not just be a cloud streaming service. It will be a console with cloud streaming somehow involved. All of the lemmings in here jumping to conclusions needs to take it easy. Todays internet speeds are not ready for this type of thing to be used by a mass audience around the world and SONY knows this. Now please READ the ENTIRE article. http://kotaku.com/5922812/you-may-already-own-a-playstation-4-the-sci+fi-reality-of-last-nights-big-sony+gaikai-news

Not really. Ps4 games have been in development for some time now. Sony santa monica seemed like they had no idea this cloud thing was going down judging from their tweets. So they've been developing a ps4 game for hardware that sony doesn't plan to sell because they acquired gakai? Mark my words ps4 will be a console with gakai integrated into it somehow

I seriously doubt any PS4 games are in development. It seems a ways off from everything I've heard, and if it is, games are likely being developed for their cloud service.

really? did you even read the article Yoshida posted on his twitter that I posted up two messages. The service is going to be INTEGRATED into the PS4. aka they will coexist. PS4 will most likely launch end of 2013 and you think no games were in development until sometime after today? Going completely cloud based makes no sense and I really don't understand why everyone is jumping to that conclusion. They would be alienating half of their install base from ever playing a ps4 game if they go totally cloud.

I lookedat Yoshidas twitter and he's pretty much retweeting every article related to their Gakai purchase. About 20 of them. I think you're grasping at straws. This is just publicity.

Also, Sony's gaming division is currently losing money by the truckload.

I doubt it matters to them who they alienate, with cloud gaming they could be profitable from day 1 and sell it extremely cheap.

Obviously their old strategy was not working.

[QUOTE="bashar-xs"] I don't care if Microsoft compressed games as long as I get the same image quality as ps3, even some multiplat games looks even better on x360, Uncharted 3 sure used 45g, its a ps3 exclusive and all exclusives games designed to show case the hardware and its features. this whole gen only few games that really used blu-ray, now the question is? was blu-ray necessary for those game?? was it needed?? NO uncharted could have been done without blu-ray

Multiplatform games looking better on 360 has nothing to do with DVD,and more with developers not spending the time to put both versions on par. Resistance which was a launch game was like 17GB long, compare this to the first games on PS2 that were mostly all on CD even that the PS2 was dvd. Blu-ray was necessary for games, the fact that MS chose to rush the 360 out of the game, with an inferior format doesn't mean Blu-ray wasn't need it,even with huge compression ratios, games like Blue Dragon as early as 2007 came on multiple disc on 360. Uncharted 1 was 21 GB,Uncharted 3 was say to be 50GB and from what i read Naughty Dog even had to cut corners to fit the game. http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1019717/uncharted_3_bigger_than_50gb_bluray_disc_naughty_dog.html Blu-ray was need it and developers have not only complain about MS compression but also their policy about multiple disc games,is know that they even charge extra developers that used more than 1 disc, which do force developers to cut corners.

This thread is so stupid. Do you guys realize how little sense this makes?

For starters, this sh*t is from January 11th. She said that "it will be the big news of E3"

Well, no big news at E3. This topic is dead.

Also, you cannot make an entire console cloud based without releasing phyisical hardware. What, do you think you're going to access next-gen hardware remotely from Sony's servers with your Vita or something?

No, that's dumb. This thread is dumb. The lemmings trying to claim ownage in it are really, REALLY dumb.

Logic he is more 360 fan that you are...haha Dude sony already invested heavily on a AMD GPU + an APU what the hell do they need all that for if they will just have a streaming service.? BUt if you did actually used logic for 1 second, and think hey sony have a discount service which also offer games at no extra charge,is it possible that sony will replace PSN+ games downloads with a streaming service that will load on the fly.?

No system next gen will be cloud only. ITs giving your competitors a huge retail advantage and segregating the part of your audience who doesn't buy online.

What kind of logic is this? Did you not read the countless artiles of a Sony buyout of Gakai leading up to E3? They just chose not to announce it likely because it hadn't quite been finalized.

I'm sure they'd just be happy to turn profit.

What does this have to do with the fact that her "prediction" turned out to be dead wrong?

[QUOTE="phonemug"]Here is someone with a little bit of logic. Most of the fanboys on this board would rather see Sony continue to get killed financially just so they could pander to their fanboy dreams of powerful hardware. This is a strategy that will be a lot cheaper for them and may keep them afloat.tormentos
Logic he is more 360 fan that you are...haha Dude sony already invested heavily on a AMD GPU + an APU what the hell do they need all that for if they will just have a streaming service.? BUt if you did actually used logic for 1 second, and think hey sony have a discount service which also offer games at no extra charge,is it possible that sony will replace PSN+ games downloads with a streaming service that will load on the fly.?

phonemug's getting owned from left to right and the poor bastard doesn't even realize it.

Since my comment just got buried on page 9.

Article from January 11th.

Prediction that one of the companies will drop out and will be "the big news at E3"

E3 passed by, nothing happened.

Dead topic.

Yes, and? Nanea Reeves said "Not all of the current console makers will have one more generation. That will be the big news at E3." Tell me, what was the big news at E3 this year?

No system next gen will be cloud only. ITs giving your competitors a huge retail advantage and segregating the part of your audience who doesn't buy online.

bionictonic

Did that strategy work for Sony this gen? They lost billions.

I'm sure they'd just be happy to turn profit.

It worked for them the previous 2 gens. It also would not be smart to just let MS have 100% of the big console IPs.

The previous two gens were over half a decade ago and beyond.

The market has changed and so has Sony's financial situation.

So you think giving up any retail market share and mind share they have now to prematurely go cloud will get them back on track? Lol naw.

The problems sony had this gen, have nothing to do with anything that you claim. You can play blind if you like, only a true sony hater will think that they will release the PS4 as a streaming console, when the PSP go was download only and went to hell.

It's better that than to drive themselves to bankruptcy. I'm sure profitability is more important to them at this point than appeasing their fanboys.

So Sony's problems this gen didn't have anything to do with them taking losses on hardware?

Something they could avoid completely with an Onlive business model?

Color me surprised

They aren't going to be profitable launching a cloud gaming service, they won't get the consumer support to make up the money they spent buying it. I don't think you are thinking this through.

Sony could have launched much more profitable hardware if they didn't go with the idiotic cell processor. The 360 launched at $400 with similar hardware to the PS3 and the losses were much less substantial.
