well yeah i mean look how many iterations of graphics cards Nvidia is making, and that is only counting for PC's think about how mushc they are making with mobile phones witht the tegra chip.

Some of the iterations are just renames or respins. The major architecture jumps for NVidia is G80 DX10 ->G200 DX10 > Fermi DX11 and all scalar array based stream processors.

AMD's major architecture jumps are R600/RV7x0's VLIW5 DX10 -> Cypress's VLIW5 DX11 -> Cayman's VLIW4 DX11 -> GCN's 1 scalar+SIMD DX11 (to be released in Q4 2011).

If PCs are 9 times as powerful, then they do a terrible job of showing it. Most PCs are the $500 or less kind that are only are only slightly more powerful in real terms than consoles.

I don't dispute that PCs might have 9x the "theoretical power", but they just won't show that since PCs aren't dedicated gaming machines and due to diminishing returns. When you're able to play across multiple monitors in 3D at resolutions of 7680x1600 at 120FPS with loads of AA or even Super Sampling with DX11 features let me know.

1. Most games are multiplatform based which means console base line in the game design,graphics and abilities.

2. Designing games to work a wide range of users with configurations which tend to be all over the place but nowadays 2010-2011 Geforce 8's are minimum requirements for Pc games that push beyond console based graphics.

3. Direct x 11 is still new and direct x 10 flopped because of Vista and lack of native support. However Direct x 11 and cards are being sold and used like crazy and 2011 is the year where will start really pumping dx 11 games. And 2012 will even bigger.

I play Witcher 2 totally maxed out with ubersampling on and I get an average of 30 FPS. I can tell you with a straight face that UC2 is one gen behind.

PC gaming is not going away, but it is hardly going to become the dominant platform for hardcore games. Consoles are where it's at, and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future. The only way I see PC taking over is if they somehow become as economical and user-friendly as consoles.
