First off that's more marketing than news imo. Nvidia has every reason to cherry pick numbers and make optimistic predictions. But if the numbers are true I must say I'm suprised how good consoles are doing. With one tenth the power of high end rigs and being outperformed also by PC:s cheaper than consoles, it's amazing that software sales can still grow. Really shows how sound the console model is financially.

ducati101

You do realise that includes all consoles and handhelds? Also Nvidia didn't conduct that survey. Another survey last year showed practically the same thing.

No I didn't. Where does it say so?

well, Nvidia is obviously not going to support console gaming since each of the console manufacturers signed on for AMD hardware this coming gen

LOL, what?

You're kidding right?

DO you know how many BILLIONS of dollars MS, nintendo and Sony have sunk into each console generaiton in terms of marketing, and hardware subsudizing? Let's just say you can run a first world country with much less money.

All that is saying is that if you spend Billions on marketing, and you essentially take a loss ont he product that you sell (hardware subsudizing), you'll move a lot of inventory.... well, duh!

What this does do is paint an incredible picture for PC.

There is NO ONE spending a SINGLE dime marketing PC as a gaming platform in mainstream media, OR subsidizing hardware costs.

And YET, it's still 3/4 of what ALL consoles COMBINED bring in (including hand helds).

THAT is amazing.

Nvidia marketing much? Either way, if true, that means PC only is already 3/4 of all consoles COMBINED. That was the whole point.

9x better =/= 9 times more powerful.DragonfireXZ95

And I claimed differently? Did you even read my posts?

When you're able to play across multiple monitors in 3D at resolutions of 7680x1600 at 120FPS with loads of AA or even Super Sampling with DX11 features let me know.

Havok guy

Sure that looks better but you think that looks 9x or even 8 or 7 timesbetter than something like Gears 3?Themore power to you then, but reallysomething 9x better than Gears 3 would be photorealisticon a huge scale. GTA IV modded is probably the closest thing to that right nowand even that is still a ways off.

I take you never game on a high end PC.mitu123

Not very often no. I've triedCrysis on very high or whatever the setting is actually called (fps was too unstable to do more than just look at the prettiness). But I've seen all the bullshots too and even those don't look 9x better. It really seems like everyone is underestimating how much 9x better really is.

What the hermits don't seem to understand is that just because their games do look a lotbetter that the HD consoles are no slouches themselves, and now the next gen of consolesis right around the corner.

Yeah.. a time will come when bros eat pizza, and drink beer while playing MMO's and RTS games, hunched over a 19 inch monitor /sarcasm

Consoles will always dominate in sales because they appeal to casual gamers.

The day when you can buy a pre-built High end rig for $300, will be the day PC's bring in more money than consoles.

ConsolesFTW

Agreed. Consoles will never die. Where else can you get PC level graphics for $200?

This is the issue in a nutshell, and the reason I am a consolite.

First of all: you get what you pay for. In this case, an outdated, poorly performing game box.

You pay a little more and you get a machine that ACTUALLY does everything.

Secondly, PC gmaing can be cheaper depending on how many games you puchase ina given generation, and depending on the type of gamer you are.

I know I've easily saved WAY more money since 2007 over my console friends just in Steam sales alone, even though I easily own 4 times as many games as they do.

Capability != value. A pickup truck can haul more cargo than my car, and a minivan can haul more people, but no way in hell would I trade in for either of those, even for free.

Your analogy is flawed. You are illustarting precisely WHY a specialized object may not be what you specifically need.

The PC is not like a pickup truck or a minivan. the PC is like a friggin transformer than can change between a sports car, a truck, or a space shuttle, depeding on your needs! :)

What if I don't have any other needs? My car does what I want it to. My PS3 does what I want it to. And I find them both more enjoyable to use than their general-purpose counterparts.

Is funny thing that World of warcraft alone sold more copies than any console game in history and as revenues goes brings in more than any console game ever will. Now add the fact that this very moment more than 11 millions are active gamers .. Now count how many pizzas and beers all these wow gamers might have eaten/drunk by playing wow with friends etc , which happens alot of time thru LAN parties. you are Totally biased.

To be honest, I wouldn't compare BF2 to BF3. With BF2's Refractor engine you're talking about an engine made for systems pre-current console gen. It was used for the basis of BF2 Modern Combat on the 360, Xbox, and PS2, though of course the PC BF2 was pushing things much more in terms of physics and overall server and system load, but I wouldn't say so in terms of graphics as the 360 was the winner there. Then again, the game's system requirements are fairly low and reflect that, yet a much better graphics card became necessary once you started stacking graphics options, especially higher resolution and AA. BF2142 pushed things even more, but the graphics still lacked the polish of the then entrenched 360 when the game released fall of 2006. The most impressive uses of Refractor come from BF2 mods like Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2, where the general view distance and foliage was reconfigured to render out to much longer distances, but of course at the cost of performance. The rest of the graphics still reflected what was set in stone with Refractor and BF2. There was room to grow of course, but it would've meant rewriting parts of the engine to take advantage of more modern hardware.

Last night I was looking at some PC games and my cousin (PS3 Gamer) started trolling me about how no one plays on PC cause he's never heard of one and all that. He kept saying all our games are coming to consoles cause that's the only place where they'll sell. I told him that was also false but he kept bringing up CoD sales and I'm like can you say something other then that? He keeps saying CoD sales so I showed him StarCraft 2 but he laughed and said it didn't count (I'm guessing cause it's not some console like game heavy on the cutscenes and all that).

Our platform pretty much will never die. Even *if* general commercial games for PC cease to exist, there are all the independents, F2P, and freely made and released projects, NOT TO MENTION the huge repertoire of titles and mods from years past. I think we are covered. Hard to be bored on PC. Phones and tablets honestly to me represent more of a "threat" to PC gaming (but even more so to consoles), where the experience is semi-controlled due to platform controls, yet the user experience can be bettered with faster hardware much like the PC. Compatibility isn't as much an issue, and the market has proved to be highly lucrative in the face of console and PC gaming. However it is likely the mobile and PC markets will converge, especially if ARM manages to break x86's hold on general home computing or vise versa.

PC gaming is on the rise, which is good.... Not so limited like consoles, no license required and cheaper to develop for which is why PC games are cheaper. I hope developers start putting in the time on PC games again so we get to see more of a benefit with the extra power.

Dude, I'm not saying PC has no advantages, I'm saying that for $200-$250 you can't beat a console, and outdated is meaningless. It has NO meaning. As long as current games are being made that push the system, you're getting great value. How much morevalue are you REALLY getting out of a $500-800 PC when most of the games are still on the level ofan outdated, poorly performing game box. PC games do look better, but not tons without mods. So value is all depending. And given ebay and gamestop, games can easily be purchased for far less that retail. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

This was exactly what Newzoo and Intel researches showed last year. Nvidia isn't the only one predicting the PC revenue will surpass all the consoles together in the next few years.

Why are people trying to downplay Free to play and MMOs and pass them off as casual stuff inorder to make themselves feel good and believe consoles market are 100% core gaming when casual revenue makes the majority on all platforms apparently they haven't paid attention to what's going on in there and the F2P/MMO market :P

Just a look at the future/current of F2P and MMOs

For those who say MMOs/F2P don't matter cause their not "core" tell what about these titles doesn't make them core?

The great thing about F2P games is that this model allows for big budgeted PC exclusives in genres that usually stick to low-budget now when devs want to go PC-only route.

Unlike a truck or a van, a gaming PC has both speed and capability.
