lolololol, the next gen consoles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are going to use ATI GPUS. More money only for Nvidia, not Ati.

AdrianWerner

Doing console chips is fine, but it's petite money compared to what Nvidia sells on PC market

Petit, are you joking. Wii GPU + Xbox 360 GPU, is like 144 Millions ships sold from AMD. And the next gen maybe is going to be Sony+Micro+Nin. The Same happens with IBM.

Interesting. I live in a small town (~25k population) and I overhear many people talking about their satellite connection. If that much people have satellite (which gives 200-400mb daily limit), I wonder how long it'll take before digital distribution is the majority.Mr_Cumberdale

You should tell those people to tether a smartphone to their computer and stop wasting money.

I am amazed people STILL believe this COME ON now...

Let me tell you 3 easy reasons why it wont happen

1 convience- it is easy to set up a console and immediatly play on a console

2 Family- Your wife, mom, dad, little sister want to play? Well too bad cause the pc basically is a repels them away from it

3 Friends- How many of your friends only play the PC? None of mine do... and when they are asked about it by me they say its nerdy... that perception will never change

Sorry but the day console gaming dies is the day gaming itself dies... the sad truth that nobody seems to want to realize

Didn't PC gaming trek on just fine when consoles crashed back in the day?

Errm because it has? I'm pretty sure nvidia is talking about game sales rather than revenue.

Of course they were talking about revenue. That's the only thing companies care about.

And yet the first chart talks about software sales.

Well considering how Farmville isn't playable on consoles, I'd say its a possibility.

Truthfully though, PC hardware is getting more and more expensive and changing rapidly. The newest GPU's are around $700, only to go down $300 a few months later, so I don't think the status quo will change. PC gaming will probably grow, but if those new consoles get out in 2013, then console gaming will pretty much dominate the market again for a couple of years (as they tend to do after launch).

Sounds good. I'll happily play games on PC if, by that time, common, everyday (non-gaming specific) PCs can play the most modern games without requiring upgrades every two years. Hopefully technology will advance and the price will decrease enough to the point that games will be playable for everyone who merely owns a PC. Or hopefully PC devs will stop pushing the graphical limits and make games that more people can play.

If they want current console gamers, one of those two things will have to happen. Average gamers aren't willing to do the constant-upgrade thing to be able to play new games. At least I'm not...

Consoles can't display 1080p. My PC handles it without skipping a beat.

In the US, the NPD estimates it as just below 50% of sales.

Agreed. I know they wanted to start reporting them (they released a statement regarding doing it) but I don't think it really went anywhere. It's gonna be difficult as well due to Valve not releasing any sales data.

1. PCs are more convenient because of more fully working features, not to mention being able to use any controller that you want to.. You buy a PC, you go plug it in and play. Not to mention almost every game today is available digitally for easy and instant access.

2. Why is that? PC has splitscreen also.

3. All of my friends have PCs. So...yeah. Gaming in general is still nerdy, it isn't limited to PC.

Remember that console crash in the 80s? PC gaming was still doing just fine. There's absolutely no reason why PC would die out if consoles did. People will go where the content is.

Right now you can grab a 6770 plus Deus Ex HR and Shogun 2 for $125 with a $25 MIR. Deus Ex and Shogun 2 would be about $80 together, so you're only paying $45 (Or $20 if you bother with the MIR) for a card that can do great 1080p gaming.

How am I lying? 8800 Series are still as powerful as the bulk of "low end to medium" range of cards these days. Basically anyone who bought them got great value, as they are still very good for general PC gaming, even newer ones.

I've often wondered what Valve's motivation is behind not providing sales data. They can't hide income from the IRS. If I was running a company that was #1 in sales, I would be advertising it.

While I agree mostly, PC's may be 9x more powerful but I don't really see the fruit of such power. Problem is most PC games now are limited to their console counter parts, which is why Next Gen consoles need to come SOOON.

Take CoD 4 for example , playing at true 1080 resolution with 4X AA with 16x AF all setting maxed out and yet still get 200+ fps , vs consoles 1024x600, with no AA 4x AF, and fps ranges 30-60 fps. Right there is at least 3x the work for the resolution, 4x the workload for both AA and AF and still have 3x the fps So I would say You can see the 10x performance with a multiplatform game.

Well I game at 1600p (2560x1600) all settings maxed. You should see how a console focused multiplat like BulletStorm looks on my PC, blows anything on consoles visually. The tech gap is rather large, but this is not what console's are about, hence why I also own a PS3 and 360.

You can run 90% of multiplat game on a Geforce 8 still on high settings its the Pc games that take use of better hardware where you start seeing the geforce 8's on low-medium settings. But yet still look and run better then what a console could do.

Highly doubt you have Alienware. You wouldn't have made comments like that. And besides graphics there are other elements as well. Processing power? Funny how that stuff gets ignored. And the 10x performance is just crazy talk.

I can believe it.

While consoles are highly lucrative Media devices, the PC market keeps growing.

Personally, I'm somewhat doubtfull about the advantages of adopting something like Windows 8, but the increased userfriendliness is apparent.

My household alone contains about 4 laptops, consoles have certainly carved their niché, but the PC is anything but dead.

Dude you have know idea what you are talking about, no offence. lol

Right back at you, your the one who thnks you cant get 10x the performance which you can. so when a console runs game below 1280x720 just like all Cod games do at 1024x 600, do the math buddy 1920x1080 is 3.3x the pixels of 1024x600 which means 3x the workload needed to render, then normal to high use of AA and AF which plenty of consoles lack add to the workload, and then when you can get over 3x the fps along with the other things stated then ya your getting multiple times performance over consoles.

And lets do some other math shall we, the 360 gpu uses an average of 256mb of memoy and the gpu can only do 240 GFLOPS while an AMD 6950 has upto 2048mb of memory

and does 2.25 TFLOPS of performance or 2000+ GFLOPS

[QUOTE="lundy86_4"] Agreed. I know they wanted to start reporting them (they released a statement regarding doing it) but I don't think it really went anywhere. It's gonna be difficult as well due to Valve not releasing any sales data.topsemag55
I've often wondered what Valve's motivation is behind not providing sales data. They can't hide income from the IRS. If I was running a company that was #1 in sales, I would be advertising it.

They can't. Those numbers are owned by publishers, not Valve.

lolololol, the next gen consoles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are going to use ATI GPUS. More money only for Nvidia, not Ati.

I don't know the most current numbers, but when Xbox 360 was launching Nvidia was already selling over 100 mln PC GPUs each year. And they make far more money on PC GPUs than console ones. Simply put consoles are just small part of their business

And I can guarantee you that Left 4 Dead 1/2 made more money on the PC, even though it sold more on the consoles. What with the much larger profit margin and all the income they get from all those dedicated servers :)

First off that's more marketing than news imo. Nvidia has every reason to cherry pick numbers and make optimistic predictions. But if the numbers are true I must say I'm suprised how good consoles are doing. With one tenth the power of high end rigs and being outperformed also by PC:s cheaper than consoles, it's amazing that software sales can still grow. Really shows how sound the console model is financially.

You do realise that includes all consoles and handhelds? Also Nvidia didn't conduct that survey. Another survey last year showed practically the same thing.

Why are people so defensive over this anyway? It's not like it's something that hurts you. When you think about it this was going to happen sooner or later.

VIA DD devs can get almost full $$$ for every copy sold. No gamestop middle man, no shipping, no boxing etc etc

It costs less to make a PC game than a console game

You don't need huge advertisement for PC games to do well.

etc etc
