**Official** 360 beats PS3 in 2011 SALES

I don't think it has been posted elsewhere in this thread, but Sony also decreased its forecast for future sales of PS3 units by 1 million for the full fiscal year (meaning Apr 2011 to end Mar 2012).

Previously they had forecast 15 million units, now they forecast 14 million units. This is notable because sales units of PS3 have increased every fiscal year, but this may be the first year of a decrease (actual units for Apr 2010 to end Mar 2011 were 14.3 million units). Anyway, first sign of overall slowing sales for PS3.

You are missing the point. Three months ago they updated their forecast to 15 million units. Yesterday they updated it again to 14 million units. What happened in Q1 is irrelevant as they already knew those actuals both yesterday and 3 months ago. They updated their forecast because Oct - Dec was not as strong as they expected and because Jan - Mar is not going to be as strong as expected.

Only reason PS3 easily caught up to the 360 was because of the tons of price drops that Sony did with the PS3 from the beginning of their launch to September of '09, all the while costing them two console generations of profits alone (PS1 & PS2) as well as about a $4 or $5 Billion loss.

They can't do that again with either PS Vita or PS4.

I don't think it necessitates that Q4 expectations have been lowered, they may have always expected a flat Y/Y Q4, nor that the weak Q1 is irrelevant. They may have expected a weaker Q1 to be made up for by a stronger Q3. The latter didn't eventuate, thus revised forecasting.

Market share does not carry over from gen to gen. This generation had its own seperate race, and guess what, the 360 got crushed by the Wii...even in American - which is like the only place where the 360 sells strong. The PS3 started the race slow, but its not how you start, its how you finish. And as of right now, the 360 is ahead of the PS3 by only the tinest of haires. Its been a dog fight for second place. But regardless of sales. In the eyes of the gamers, its clear that the PS3 won, in what mattered most to a gamer. The PS3 arguably has the greatest exclusive line up of any past or present console PERIOD. In fact, the PS3 is arguably one of the greatest gaming consoles of all time. For sure its been one of the most bang for your buck consoles ever. The PS3 has won where it matters to a gamer, and in the eyes of the core gamer or informed gamer, the PS3 is simply better. But...
