Well generator defense is my favorite mode yet, plus Overlook is just an amazing map.rickatickAgreed, overlook looks amazing and it looks like the map will be a lot larger w/ generator defense modes being on sections of the maps. Can't wait to play that area in the campaign too
is it me or is this the best multiplayer experience going on right now albeit that its a beta? Really impressed and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Is there a chance there will be no controller lag for online co-op in Reach? It made me HATE playing firefight and halo 3 co-op online, you would press A and jump .5 second later lol so annoying!-RocBoys9489-
I think Network Test 1 is trying to squash a lot of bugs that would ultimately kill things like that.
Bungie is playing this beta a helluva lot differently than the Halo 3 beta.
Firefight in ODST used the campaign co-op netcode. (which is why it had no matchmaking in ODST) No wonder the lag is so bad at times when I played it, that explains it. But look it from the bright side, when the full game comesa out you won't be lagging like hell when playibng co-op, or maybe even Firefight. :D[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"][QUOTE="Sandvichman"] No idea, the netcode they are using is from the campaign, but i could be wrong.mitu123
I've found armor lock to be the least useful of the AA. I know how and when yo use it, but I'm not a fan of being stuck in one spot, a lot of the times it attracts people to you like flying with the jetpacks. How to NOT use armor lock: :P

I prefer sprinting though, being agile is a good advantage in Halo.

Very hard for me to decide whioch I like better. Generator Defense or Invasion. But then again along with SvE, Covy Slayer, Stockpile and all the rest, variety IS the spice of life :D
And oh yes, Overlook is *BLEEPING* GORGEOUS!!! Talk about art in video games :o :)
Why does Halo Reach look the same? I mean artistically, Bungie really need to give the game a fresh new look. Visually it isn't much better. the game needs to be redone by another team, that way they won't be afraid to take risks and try new things, unlike bungie who are way to attached to the series and scared to further it. soapandbubbles
Looks the same as what? Halo 3? If you can't see the graphical differences between H3 and Reach, there is simply no help for you.
If you mean by art direction, when has ANY series deviated from its signature look and design? Metal Gear Solid series? Devil May Cry games? Sonic Games? Mario Games? SoulCalubur series? Sure Anybody, anybody at all?
Sure you get some occasional departures, like Prince of Persia and Zelda WW. But for the most part, a game is defined by its art direction and making too radical a departure causes it to lose its identity. Oh and just look at what happened when Zelda did try something radically different. Nintendo learned from that and went back to the more traditional look which fans wanted. Even the latest PoP game, Forgotten Sands, isn't trying to replicate the cel shaded look.

Talk about a Catch 22, huh?
We have people like the quoted post , who feel that Halo:Reach is too much of the same, and needs to look fresh, and different. The thing is, Halo:Reach is fresh, and different. Compare these:
To These:
See? Halo Has Colour, and its main competitors don't!

Well, it looks like Halo. Because it's Halo Reach.
I'd be pretty angry if Bungie decided to change the art style now. It'd be like the next GoW being cartoony and cel-shaded with little to no blood. Fans would be enraged.
[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]Powerhouse would have been a better picture to show. Or overlook Swordbase is the single worst thing in creation :Psiddhu33
Which doesn't affect my argument in any way.
Also, why don't you like swordbase?
Yeah I love Sword Base...And oh yes, Overlook is *BLEEPING* GORGEOUS!!! Talk about art in video games :o :)

Yeah, Overlook is just beautiful. So much attention to detail for a level that's just plain huge; it's hard not to stop and admire the texture work at times. Here's some shots I took today...
The textures so are detailed, even down to something as small and inconsequential as a bolt...
yeah i was stunned when I took a look around overlook in theater. but even powerhouse was impressive. there were the mountains in the distance, the peak directly above you, the bushes and trees and hills outside the base, and the hyrdoelectic damn. but I loved the planets in the sky on overlook and the radio dish. the waterfall is also a great detail. it made the map feel alive.
they even render text on the bottom of ejected shells when you fire your gun. they're blurry as heck, but they're there
if the hypothetical Reach firefight mode had loadouts available, that would just be awesome (and perfectly okay from a a balance POV). maybe not for armor lock though, because it can mess with the heads of human enemies bad enough, imagine the havok that would create for an AI. :P to easy to exploit and boost a firefight score I think, and maybe cloak would be too powerful too. jetpack and sprint don't protect you from bullets or attention. it would be great to have those optional tactics available to a team trying to survive.

first and foremst. Swordbase is a very "generic" design if you really want to go there. It's not exactly a very "halo" map if you want to show off color since you want to throw Killzone 2 and what I think is Modern Warfare 2 under the bus. Second it's simply put a cluster**** of a map. Standard slayer is too friendly to jetpacks, the corridors up top become the real hotzone of the map and it just gets repetitive. Long range shooting their isn't much fun as escaping is always an option because of how weak the weapons are. Covy Slayer on sword base is nothing short of torture. And in comparrison to Powerhouse, Boneyard, and Overlook. It's clearly the weaker of the 4 to be honest. Is it as bad as say Isolation in Halo 3? hell no. Epitaph level of lameness? no. Is it decent? nope. It's bad tier. the other maps are actually fun to play on. Team Swat and Stockpile on Sword Base are nothing short of fail. On the flip side Swordbase makes a fun free for all map.I think they are going to limit the loadouts in Firefight. As for hypotehtical. They have said "definitive Halo" so much it has to be in there now. Not to mention every shooter and their mother has a survival type mode. If they were smart though they would take the chance and do something totally different from everyone in terms of a cooperative mode but eh. Doubt it.if the hypothetical Reach firefight mode had loadouts available, that would just be awesome (and perfectly okay from a a balance POV). maybe not for armor lock though, because it can mess with the heads of human enemies bad enough, imagine the havok that would create for an AI. :P to easy to exploit and boost a firefight score I think, and maybe cloak would be too powerful too. jetpack and sprint don't protect you from bullets or attention. it would be great to have those optional tactics available to a team trying to survive.

Halo CE was king with blood gulch, avalanche, hang 'em high etc. Halo 3's maps weren't as good as there were too many indoor corridor fests. Halo 3 has more outdoor maps then indoor.:? I like what they are doing though.
I didn't say it didn't have any outdoor maps... only that it had too many drab indoor corridors ones. Epitaph, Citadel, Construct, Foundry, The Pit. Aesthetically dull, indoor environments. Is it as bad as say Isolation in Halo 3?jg4xchampSo that map is actually bad? I don't hate it just because I always rank last on it?
Fun beta. I really have enjoyed what I've played. The only major gripe I have is the input lag while playing Generator Defense, but I assume since they're using it to test the Co Op, the input lag will definitely be improved before the game ships. Other than that, it's fun.

Speaking of which, I really want to see Reach recreations of some cIassic Halo 2 maps for the final release. Including Ascension, Longshore, Collossus (it is indoor but also very spacious), Ivory Tower, another Blackout, and I can't remember the name of this one from Halo 2, basically it was a delapidated metropolitan section, had this partially constructed elevated highway ramp in the middle... maybe comeone can remember what I'm talking about.
