 I just showed one of my friends a vid of people playing on Kinect, he doesnt play games at all, he isn't into games, but his reaction surprised me, he was so amazed, so impressed, I still cant believe how amazed he was, he kept asking me "..come on, where's the controller, how do they do that without a controller?" he couldn't stop grinning as he was watching the vids, I honestly didn't expect Kinect to have such a strong impact on some non gamers, ...MS might be on to something ....thought I'd share that with you guys,

ethanradd

yea, everyone i've showed have been amazed to lol. i mean cows or whoever can bash all they want but Kinect impresses people. unless ur biased.

Look for some of these same guys in the current 3D TV is teh future thread and in that thread they are comfortable with and even encouraging people to go ahead and throw down $3000 or more on this new tech! Yet they come in here and hem and haw over the price of Kinect and say its a failure!

Kinect is gonna be the hot item going around christmas time. The ability to do what you can do with Kinect is going to have people interested, even people who never played games. Its simple, its easy, and its going to make alot of people in here eat their words. Still this is a sticky for one reason, people wanna talk about it and discuss it.... Its intriguing.

[QUOTE="vaderhater"]Yes and that is around the amount of time Sega noted too. Crazy huh? They said they need around two years not one year as they have had with the new tech to hammer out hardcore games.EA same boat. But yes the games will come.subrosian
I'm not talking about development time. That will be an ADDITIONAL 12 to 18 months. What I, and Activision, were discussing is the amount of market penetration that must exist before games development (the kind that anyone who posts on an internet forum about gaming cares about) can begin. We can't put $20 mil down for the kind of games you'd probably like without a reasonable market penetration already in place to sell on. We also can't gamble on MS' success, because we're not MS, there's no guarantee they don't screw us over by launching a new console, putting out their own game or pulling the marketing dollars away. It's higher risk than you fully appreciate, though if you'd like to personally give me the $20 mil, I will get the games in development ASAP.

sounds like you are rooting for Kinect to fail and Im looking for it to be a success. The plate of crow will be served to either you or me, when the time comes.

 I'm not involved in fanboyism of any kind. I don't want Kinect to fail, but it's such a poorly positioned product that it will be hard for it not to. For Microsoft to make Kinect work, they need another "Halo". No, I don't mean they should make another Halo game, I mean they need another piece of software that does for Kinect what Halo did for the original Xbox. People are so obsessed with this notion of system-specific thinking that they're cheering for a crappy product over another crappy product (Kinect vs Move) without paying any attention to the greater market.

Out of curiosity, what's your opinion on Move in terms of Sony's strategy regarding it?

It seems to me that Sony is trying to engender it's current install base towards motion control. The only reason I can see them doing this is they either expect the traditional video gamer to act as an early adopter and an evangelist for the product towards the mass market, or that they are trying to create a new market of traditional gamers who like the idea of motion control but want the trimmings of an HD console.

Either way I'm not sure it will work, I think the latter is too small a market, while they've priced themselves out of being mass market with the barrier to entry for non-PS3 owners being $399.

"Wow, you guys are just amazed me. The negative comments here sounded exactly like those comments back in 2000 when MS first introduced the Original Xbox. I still remember that a lot of the naysayers on the gaming forums, gaming journalists, news networks...ect all proclaimed that:

- MS is a software company and didn't know S#$* about hardware.

- Xbox would be DOA.

- Xbox would be the next DreamCast.

- Very one hated Bill Gates and nobody would buy the Xbox.

- Even Sony said they didn't care about MS making a gaming machine because it would fail hard.

Then look at what we have on these forums now. Just the same hatred comments towards Kinect again. I was wondering why some of you love playing games for fun but have a big desire to reject something that others may enjoy playing with just for fun too. You guys are so selfish that's all I can see. Oh my gosh..."

Ok, if seeing it in a different light makes me selfish, so be it. Microsoft put out a lousy piece of equipment. Very few 360 users haven't had some sort of problem with their system, it's happened to me twice. Then after everyone already owns a 360 original, the elite comes out. Then another 360 model came out, leaving the fans to once again feel like they're stuck with an inferior machine. After making money hand over fist despite a mediocre product, Microsoft just flat out rips off Nintendo.

So by your definition, Apple also the guilty one too because they have been releasing their iPhone almost every year with cheaper, better and faster processing power. Leaving the early adopters stuck with the INFERIOR 2G iPhones? The computers industry also guilty too because they keep releasing new laptops desktops every 6-8 months with cheaper, better and faster processing power. Leaving the early adopters stuck with the INFERIOR systems? The TV companies are also guilty too because they release new HDTV's every 3-6 months with better and cheaper TV's. They even convince the early HDTV adopters to buy their 1st generation 3D TV's. However, they can't because they are stuck with the INFERIOR TV's now. The wireless phone companies keep releasing new cel phones every month......Oh wait, you got the ideal or do you want to read more???

Woo First post! I don't think Natal shows the significant upgrade from the wii it needs in order to grab peoples attention and be successful. It may sell well initially, but thinking long term, that doesn't necessarily constitute a success.Indie_Hitman
Indeed, noone can see the future For now though, it is te most impressive thing i have seen yet, it totally takes your whole body in the game, every limb and bone, and is the only one to offer full 3D interaction and immersion of your whole body in the game It is rather stunning technology and i will definatly buy it day one, i will also buy Move, but i am definatly far more exited for Kinect features, even though i prefer Move games, for now at least, since more will come for Kinect too i guess later
