People are surprised because cows kept claiming that Halo 3 wasn't going to move Xbox 360's. I guess they were wrong about that, huh?

If I said that (which I don't believe I did) then my mistake, since it's clear the game is a system seller.

Kudos to Halo 3, btw; that's what $10 Million spent on advertising gets you. That series gets a lot of flak for being so hyped, but it deserves it. I mean, come on, they PAY for it. I have to wonder, if the Halo 3 commercials were people playing on a big screen while delayed at an airport, do you think it would have been as effective? Hmmm... probably not...

Was a 5 week month that ended Oct 5th I believe.

Games always sell a bunch at first then quickly taper off.

And for those who don't know, WiiPlay is a $10 crappy mini game, but it sells because it's $10 bundled with a remote. They shouldn't even list it there, or at least divide it by 5 or 6 when comparing it to the 50 and 60 dollar games.

bu bu the 360 just released the biggest game it has to offer. Sorry dude, 360 sales can only go in a downward trend from here. In fact, by 09' I wouldn't be suprised if Microsoft had to make a new console cause 360 lifespan is done. Let's hope Mass Effect is good. It might be the last great title for x-box...well NG2 too i suppose. I'm not saying PS3 will catch up, just saying trend is going down in the coming months...way down.

in Europe its closer- sometimes X360 outsells PS3- sometimes its the other way round. Halo3 has helped X360 tho- but Sony have countered by a new cheap PS3 SKU which boosted sales 178%.

At the moment im gonna have to say that with all this pro 360 stuff going on...im feeling rather lemmingish...so ill tell you it feels rather good to be on top, nintendo will probably take back the margin soon, and honestly i say more power to them, they were in the @##%s last gen, they took a risk with the WII and DSit paid off.

good on them, NINTENDO deserve the success that they get, and anyone on there boat should be proud that they have done so much for the videogame industry, saved itin the 80s, brought new audeinces into the industry. good on them for being the fathers of video games, AND not being cocky about there success......(wips away a tear)

if i remember correctly sales difference in Japan between PS3 & X360 is about 12k this monthor something like that- X360 is selling badly- but the PS3 isnt doing that good itself.

like i said about EU- it swings back & forth- but the X360 still maintains its headstart.

in America you are right- the sales difference is so huge that if anything the userbase difference is actually widening.

so to conclude- if PS3 wants to beat X360 their gonna have to start outselling X360 month by month in most regions particularly USA just to close the gap.

Any way, the 360 is still outselling the Wii in NA and has been for about 5 weeks now. The PS3 isn't even in the equation considering it is so far behind. It would be crazy if the 360 outsells the DS again in NA for October. No doubt it will outsell the Wii and PS3 again.

I don't consider that selling like crap. I consider selling like crap when one handheld outsells the entire console lineup for the region. Wii- 20,000
PS2- 10,000
PS3- 10,000
360- 1,500

Seriously, it's just a slow period. Most Japanese school-children, are studying and don't have time for videogames. At around November/December, they'll all go back up again.

while many there indeed celebrate x-mas. it's the lunar new year that is the biggest holiday of the year in most asian countries. that's usually in late jan and early feb. that's were most give money and presents to eachother and go on vacation.

That is key, it shows where traditional games are selling the most, and where resources targeted at people in this forum are likely to be focused.

MS has a very focused demographic which makes it easy for publishers to target games trhat will sell well. PS3 and Wii have much broader appeal which in many ways is a positive, but it means that individual games are less likely to sell as well.

Going by hardware, Wii is doing great pretty much everywhere, 360 doing well in US, ok in UK (not sure about Europe) and crappy in Japan, and PS3 is doing ok in Europe and pretty much sloppy everywhere else.

Software-wise, Wii mostly doing well-great worldwide, 360 doing great worldwide (crappy in Japan, selling a lot in the US, doing great in other countries such as UK and etc), and the PS3 is doing crappy pretty much everywhere... people make fun of Nintendo's first-party games, but if you look at the PS3 I can't remember of one third-party game that did too well.

Actually in my area Nintendo has been pumping out quite a bit of Wiis this month.

Sometimes you wonder if they want the Wii to be in short supply, like the Ipod.
