I was interested in this game until I played the demo. Hack 'n slash gameplay with a top layer RPG levelling system in place. I can understand why people would like it, but it left me quite cold. Bland graphics saved by a decent art style and uninspired combat, disjunct is an apt word for the combat in this game. 2 tomatoes, try harder Dennis and please stop ranting on message boards and podcasts.

Has anyone, I mean anyone heard anything at all about problems starting the demo? I want to play the demo so badly, but everytime I get to the start screen, nothing happens. I have switched controllers, I have deleted and reinstalled the demo three times, still nothing. Please tell me someone has heard about a fix for this???? I really want to acclimate myself to the combat, skill tree, and loot system before I jump into the full game on release.

I think I saw you ask that a few days ago and figured you got straightened out.

You are the only one I heard this from so I dunno but feel for ya and wish I could help.

If you can't find answer here, I would call the Xbox 800 number and put them to work for you.

No, I have pretty much given up on trying to play it, honestly. I figured I would try it again in a few days and see if it works this time. I appreciate it, though.

I hear the more you play it, teh better it gets.Dreams-Visions
I found myself messing with the Skill trees, checking out the equipment. I started looking for more bounty to make my armor. I think this game will almost have endless combinations of weapons and armor, which is cool since no one character will ever be the same. Graphics are not the greatest at times, but gameplay matters more to me.

There is a way to unlock the beserker and commando class in the demo. Unplug your internet, reset your console, change the date to 2009 in the settings and then boot up the demo again. They will now be selectable. Works every time enjoy. There is also a was to glitch to get the bio and defender 2, but its tricky, heres a vid

Ooh I need to get into this thread so my words will be saved for posterity.

Too Human will be a monumental, disastrous megaflop of teh epic proportions.

I, too, love these types of lootwh0re games, but it's time to cut the cord. What has been shown so far is atrocious, the demo is underwhelming, Denis Dyack has shown himself to be a total 'bag, the press has slammed it mercilessly since they got their hands on it, and it's been in some form of development for almost a decade but looks like a throwaway "slow season" 360 game.

I can't believe you (subrosian) have his hopes up for this.

I also can't believe you are trying to tell us we cannot troll Dyack or the game because of the GS TOU. Denis Dyack is a PUBLIC FIGURE, he is meant to be discussed on a gaming forum, he is not Joe Anonymous, whom those types of laws were meant to protect. By your logic, Jack Tretton or Krazy Ken could make an account here and then be impervious to those types of barbs. Nuh uh.

We wouldn't be allowed to troll Dyack for a different reason: TH is a 360 exclusive and this board is lemming-land. You can troll Kojima all you want, but the second it extends to Dyack and the right people cry, game over. I'm surprised that you want to see free-speech curbed in such a manner. Personally I am entirely on the GAF's side on this one. Did you hear that crazy fool on 1up? How can you possibly have any faith in the man or the game after that?

why does Too human need an official thread :| JPOBS

Because Sub knows it will be trolled and ripped apart mercilessly soon, this is a way to contain the collateral damage.

I'm sorry, I'm generally not negative about games, especially games with swords and lots of loot and devs who have poured their heart into their work, but this one is guaranteed to be a stinker. Might be fun for the right people, but with all the people touting this as a huge Diablo-killer of epic proportions, always on the short list for 360's "awesome 08/09 lineup!" with Gears, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, etc. I think it will massively underperform in both review scores and sales.

thats the way sw works, but this isnt a thread to contain spam threads, this is a informational thread about one game, which most people arent even interested in .

and floating this thread only adds to the clutter of the forum imo by adding to the already ridiculous amoutn of floated threads.

The GS TOU does not make exceptions for public figures who choose to join the site. Period. This is done to allow game developers the same basic respect that any other poster is entitled to upon coming to this site. If Denis Dyack wants to post here, you do not get to call him an "idiot" just because he's been on TV a few times. Again, that has *nothing* to do with the laws in the "real world" - the TOU is written to the standards of GameSpot, and all users get equal protection *regardless* of their status as public figures.

As far as GameSpot's "bias" goes, you're simply incorrect, "lemming land" would be a poor assessment at best, I personally am not a 360 fanboy, and this frankly isn't even a 360 game. It is, in fact, a Playstation game that got ported twice. Of course when you start making comments like this, right away, it becomes obvious why you're insulting this game. You're own personal bias, as a PS3 fanboy, seems to have a lot more to do with why you're bashing this.

The fact that you have not *played* this game essentially makes it impossible for you to comment on it - as you can see in this thread, playing is believing.

Sorry pal as I will prefice up front on this.

You ether are full of it or just doing your worse to degrade the S.K. title.

Again sorry if this is interpreted wrong but to me, anyone who claims to be a core gamer and has givin the T.H. demo a fair shot and comes away thinking what you think, is anything but a Core gamer.

That is not a general statement but only meant for those like yourself who say they like this type of gaming ( PSO/Diablo ) but T.H. sucks.

I call fraud right now or.........

Just say: I don't like this genre.

Okies ?

Just got done with my 5th run through on defender. I LOVED the defender and it will probably be my starting class when the game hits. I got a hang of the Hammer toss that was a lot of fun, just felt great seeing 3-5 goblins flying in the distant when tossing my hammer at them.

Spinecaton, I guess it makes sense that YOU would be one who is going defender as I am thinking the same as I think it will be the least used early on and wanted to build up on that class.

NICE ! :)

Read my post above. You are in denial. The game is trash, it is going to bomb, it has key features being taken away from it months before development (4p co-op), Dyack chooses to wage a jihad against forum-goers rather than let his game speak for itself, all of the previews note how much it is stuck in the past with contrivances like invisible walls, jerky animation, dumb AI a bad camera and generally underwhelming control scheme. I don't have to defend my position, I am in the majority of netizens who think this game is a walking time-bomb and wish Dyack would finally shut his hole.

Speaking of Dyack... this BS about him being a member and thus you aren't allowed to troll him is a joke. It's a loophole that would allow anyone taking a slagging to just sign up and complain. After all the attention Dyack has drawn to himself, should we only be allowed to say nice things about him? That is censorship, pal, it is another whiny baby who didn't get the result he wanted stomping on our free speech under the guise of protecting his human rights. I can't believe you can possibly support that kind of fascism, and even more surprised that you accept his story and position, that him, a PUBLIC FIGURE IN THE GAMES WORLD, should be immune to discussion or even trolling, just because you happen to like his game. Hypocrite.

Where were you when there were hundreds of gifs of Kutaragi looking like an idiot? Were you championing his civil rights? No, because he didn't make Too Human, and even if he was a GS member even HE wouldn't have started a fight with an internet forum, nor would he have been crazy enough to claim some sort of amnesty because he happened to make an account.

Enjoy your game :)

excelR83, the game is far from pathetic. If you spend time with the demo you realise its a solid game. Your opinion is welcome but stop arguing that it is correct.

Who knew that cows would be in here bashing the game? I guess they're hoping to get something right for once after they hyped Lair and Haze :P

Anyway, I think it got off to a boring/slow start, but by the time the demo was ending i really started to like it. After every battle i kinda went "omg i hope i found new armor or a new weapon". I also liked the level system with the skilltree or whatever it's called. Unless the game gets horrible reviews for things that i didn't realize, then i'll probably get the game.

Okies ?

Yes, because judgments of what a core gamer is make a core gamer, right??

Just the fact that you said "core gamer" and are insinuating that only real "core gamers" would understand this game is not only hilarious, it's pathetic. Like, I am shaking my head slowly right now, that kind of pathetic. Did you love MGS4? Because I thought it was the greatest game since Half Life 2, and probably since Final Fantasy 7 too (we will see in a year or two). I have owned systems in every gen since I inherited my parents Atari 2600, I have owned 2 gaming PCs, I have spent thousands of dollars on software in every genre from JRPG, RTS, FPS to every Tim Schafer game I could get my hands on. I have 250+ PS2 games. I have played 3 different MMOs for at least 6 months a piece.

If a core gamer was actually a real thing, I would be it. However, it is not. It is some ideal you create in your mind to describe anyone who agrees with you so you feel like your nerdery is not only justifiable, but it contributes something to your personality, to the extent that you would label yourself as a "core gamer".

I love this type of game. Diablo. Diablo 2. All the Baldur's Gate/Everquest spinoffs on consoles. Those games were pretty good to fantastic. Too Human has been in embryo for way too long to have such sparse, boring, flat, uninspired environments, horrific voice acting, animation that actually induces raucous laughter upon sight, the inexplicable usage of the right analog for combat, thin "mythology" that infuses cyberpunks and Norse gods in a huge identity crisis... I think the game is a freakin mess. You may like it because you are just that big a fan of putting on armor in an inventory screen, but all told I think the game is a huge disaster after the amount of time, effort and hype that went into it.

Add to that Denis Dyack being the most self-absorbed, arrogant, condescending name-dropper in the industry, and you have a pile of poo that I will stay a healthy distance away from.

I am not the only one who thinks the game is bad. Listen to the hands-on-previews. Are the guys at 1Up not "core gamers" because they don't like it? They played more of it than you. I will tell them that... "SecretPolice" at Gamespot doesn't consider them core gamers, maybe they will pack it in. You should also tell all of GAF how much more of a gamer you are than them, I am sure they would listen. Developers actually talk in there, and there's a good reason.

Bye.

Wow. Straw-maning secretpolice, calling the game a "freakin mess" without having even played the demo, and personal attacks on Denis Dyack. I, excelR83, do not like the cut of your jib.

I think you should really, really, really play the demo *before* you start bashing it to hell, as you are doing. Some of the most vocal skeptics of this game, in case you haven't noticed, are really enjoying it. To call a game a mess without having played it simply because you believe "Dyack is a 'bag" and other unsubstantiated reasons is to be, as SecretPolice said, a non-core gamer. A core gamer believes that all games, no matter the type or anti-hype, should at least be given a chance before they are hated. You have not given Too Human this chance.

Semi-off-topic: has anyone seen vicmackey? I would think he would've given his opinion on this by now, but I haven't seen him since the demo came out...

I, sir, do not like the cut of your jib.

yea, that was a lot of paragraphs from someone if they've not played the game. wow.

excelR83, the game is far from pathetic. If you spend time with the demo you realise its a solid game. Your opinion is welcome but stop arguing that it is correct.Burnsmiesta

It is an opinion, thus it can never be "correct", nor did I say it was. That you feel that I said so says more about your insecurities regarding it being a good game than about mine over it being a bad one.

I would think he would've given his opinion on this by now, but I haven't seen him since the demo came out...

thepwninator

I didn't need to see Beautician and the Beast to know it sucked.

Some of the most outspoken vocal critics of the game have played a much more complete build than any of you have, and they think it is underwhelming. It is not surprising that people like it, and by the way, a "solid" game is a failure when you consider the amount of hype, time, effort, money that went into it. Too Human is Assassin's Creed all over again. It may get some good reviews, but TH will be collecting dust on the shelf next to AC in a few months.

I will be heading over to my friends place later today and I will make sure he downloads the demo so I can throw my hat in with all of you. I am biased towards this type of game so I will probably like it more than the average person, but in the end, in general System Wars terms, this one is going to flop. A 10 hour action-RPG with a cliffhanger ending after this long a development process sounds like a slap in the face. Dyack is lucky people are so loyal to the loot genre.

[QUOTE="JPOBS"]why does Too human need an official thread :| excelR83

Right, I bet the horrible animation, bad voice acting, bland, architecturally devoid environments, repetitive enemies and 10 hour length would all be put into perspective if only I could hold a controller in my hand while experiencing it.

My position might change when I play it, but as of now this is what I have to go on and the game looks atrocious. If I play i, come back and tell you I still think it sucks I will be accused of not playing with an open mind, not liking the genre (even though I LIVED on BNet all of 1996-1997) or not being a "core gamer" I really can't win, at least on Gamespot where the naysayers are silenced by banhammers and huge fanboy dogpiles that prohibit anyone from having a contrary opinion. Take the blinders off, there are a lot of people like me who think this game sucks, and as I said, if you won't take my word for it, how about the professional game journalists who have played a lot more of it than the demo.

That's a pretty flimsy argument. That you are even comparing this game to a legend like Diablo makes me question your credibility (have you actually played Diablo, or was that before your time?), the fact that you bring up the phrase "core gamer" makes me question a lot of things... those who self-apply labels like "core gamer" are always distasteful to me.

looks can be deceiving.

looks aren't the whole story.

looks are not what we base gaming on.

a wise man plays a game, then offers his OWN opinion. after he's experienced it for himself. rather than...you know...moaning about that which he has yet to experience.

If I may add an analogy: the Pontiac GTO LOOKS like a weak car. Then you turn it on and drive it. Oh.

Never, at any point did I say "FACT: TOO HUMAN WILL SUCK", I just reported my thoughts on the game and you took it to this extreme, which leads me to believe you don't have as much faith in this game as you would like.

In this case, I truly believe I have seen enough. It's not like they released horrific, nausea inducing trailers for Gears of War, Half Life 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Super Mario Galaxy and then the games came out and were terrific.

Based on what I've seen this game looks horrible. Take it for what it is. I don't care if you tell me I have credibility or not, the amount of responses I'm getting proves otherwise. If I was an outright troll with nothing valid to say you could easily ignore me. Since I am voicing concerns that a lot of people share, it's not as easy. Go ahead and love the game, nobody is stopping you. To say that anyone who plays the game and doesn't enjoy it is "not a true gamer" or some other such absurdity (and Q: why don't you guys take him to task for that statement? A: Because he's on your side this time) is insulting. It's that narrow-minded fanboy view that makes this forum a vile cesspit. If someone were to say "if you don't like MGS you are not a gamer" he would be the object of ridicule. We are allowed to not like games, and I am allowed to think the previews SK released to demonstrate their game were horrible. It was their choice to release those videos full of horrible animation to us, for us to judge and form opinions on.

Should I rephrase it to say "based on trailers, previews, reading of hands-on-previews, interviews and literature, I think Too Human will suck"? If I "play the demo" as so many of you suggest, and still dislike it, I will hear that either I am not a true gamer, I am a troll, I hate the genre (my personal favorite, as if TH is so good you'd have to dislike the genre not to like it  ), or "wait until the final game" as if drastic changes will be undertaken in the next two months to make this one a polished, epic, legendary instant classic.

As I said, I can't win. I don't have the numbers, and this is clearly a fanboy dogpile of Denis Dyack love.

It was their choice to release those videos full of horrible animation to us, for us to judge and form opinions onexcelR83
Based on what you've SEEN? There is a demo readily available and you're basing your opinion off what you've seen? A real gamer would put aside his obvious prejudice and actually try the game that is so readily available. Besides, I haven't even stated my opinoin about the game yet. Don't you think its a bit premature to say that I love this game or that I'm a narrow-minded fanboy?

As I said, I can't win. I don't have the numbers, and this is clearly a fanboy dogpile of Denis Dyack love.

More like people willing to think for ourselves. Have you even seen me say the game is good ONCE? I just asked you to not base opinions on something as intangible as a video. It's my biggest irritation since delving deeper into the gaming world how much people base opinions for games on previews/reviews, videos, and screenshots. Whatever happened to forming our own conclusions?

I really don't care about Too Human much, but even I wonder, how can you talk badly about any game without playing it?

Just watching others play or reading what others thought and using that as your opinion is so very illogical.

excel, I just don't get it. are you just having a bad day or something?

look through my posting history. I've been one of the biggest critics of this game and have been since E3 '06. I've pointed and laughed at this game for extended periods of time and proclaimed teh floppage.

I was still enough of a gamer to try it for myself after seeing the mixed reviews, coupled with good posters here saying the game isn't bad at all. I threw in the demo and 4 hours later emerged convinced that it'll be worth picking up. others remained unconvinced, but the demo changed many people's opinion.

I just dont understand why you won't try it and take this arrogant, proud tone with everyone like you feel a need to talk down to people because they were willing to try it and think you should too before making absolute statements about what is and what isn't with a game you've not touched.

It's almost impossible to discuss the matter with you because you're being mind-bogglingly stubborn about the whole situation. Seriously, if you won't want to play the game, get the hell out of the thread.

Otherwise, download the damn demo, fire up your damn 360 and see for your damn self.

everyone will respect your opinion once you've played the game. if you don't like it, then that's that. if you do like it, then that's that. but this...this arguing about how good a game is based on how it looked....that's just dumb, bro. and you're not a dumb poster. so something else must be wrong in your day or something.

fix whatever that issue is. then step down off the high horse and play that demo. then all will be well with the world.

Wow, what a fascist, restrictive, closed-minded point of view. I must admit that I don't like a genre that I have devoted countless hours to in the form of Diablo, Diablo 2, the Baldur's Gate spinoffs on consoles, the Everquest spinoffs on consoles, the Xmen/Marvel games etc., because I, like many, many other gamers think this game looks like trash?

Dreams-Visions

looks can be deceiving.

looks aren't the whole story.

looks are not what we base gaming on.

a wise man plays a game, then offers his OWN opinion. after he's experienced it for himself. rather than...you know...moaning about that which he has yet to experience.

If I may add an analogy: the Pontiac GTO LOOKS like a weak car. Then you turn it on and drive it. Oh.

Learn the lesson. Pout less. Play the game. Form your own opinion. That's what gamers do.

Prove to all of us that you're not simply a sheep.

Nobody is pouting. I don't have anything to lose if this game sucks. I won't be sinking any money into it.

Next, it's not as if I simply LOOKED in the direction of Too Human and thought it sucked. Your analogy fails because when you see a GTO in motion, you know it's not a piece of crap. I saw Too Human in motion, and I can't say the same. If it was a static screenshot of Too Human then you may have a point, but I saw videos of gameplay, plus that hilarious trailer with its Charlie Chaplin silent movie-esque animation, plus I read about it from not only the developers mouth, but from respected members of the gaming community who have had a chance to play the game in a much more complete build than you have. If I saw a GTO in motion, watched it at the race track, read about the specs in the manual and then read auto publications touting it as a speed-machine it's highly unlikely I would think it was slow.

I don't have anything to prove to you. A challenge from anonymous, trolling, flaming Gamespot members to prove my worth to them really doesn't hold a lot of weight. You in particular have flip-flopped and changed your position on so many things over the months that I have never tried to hold you to any standard of accountability, and I suggest you stop expecting the same from me.

[QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="excelR83"]

How many of those paragraphs are about my experience with the game? I thought you could read. Whatever, I will let the reviews speak for me. Too bad Denis couldn't afford us the same courtesy with his game.

Dreams-Visions

But a review is simply a reviewer's opinion of a game, and as you said earlier:

It is an opinion, thus it can never be "correct", nor did I say it was

excelR83

So, rather than playing the game yourself, and actually giving it a chance, you let other people tell you what to think, based on opinions you believe can never be correct? Interesting.

some people prefer to be sheep. literally. best thing to do is to let them be.

Haha yes. I am the lone wolf in here arguing with 5 of you raving Too Human fans, while you all dogpile on me and hurl derision onto my opinion or outright insult me, but I am the sheep. Yep, thats me, following the crowd to fit in. Its obviously working well here.

You may have a point about me playing the demo and THEN hating it, but you know what you're doing with that off-handed sheep remark crap, it's not exactly taking the high road. Luckily I am all alone so who will call you on it?

When did you become so obtuse?

I can't believe you, of all people, would try and revert this to an "opinion" argument. Of course it is my opinion, as it is their opinion, as it is your opinion, blabbity blabbity blah. Never, at any point did I say "FACT: TOO HUMAN WILL SUCK", I just reported my thoughts on the game and you took it to this extreme, which leads me to believe you don't have as much faith in this game as you would like.

[QUOTE="excelR83"][QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="excelR83"]

I didn't need to see Beautician and the Beast to know it sucked.

Vandalvideo

Lame justification is LAME. Playing games is different than watching movies. If you haven't felt it, you aren't qualified to judge. Attempt to judge in such a situation makes you [insert whatever you may fancy I may have said ;)].

You let your own opinoins be dictated by other people when you haven't even given the appropriate time to figure out if what they're saying is even 100% accurate? Talk about sophistry. You should atleast take the time to try it out for yourself. You should take your blinders off and try it for yourself first.

I see that the terminology I used ( core gamer ) and that is what you have globed on to yet I also said for gamers who like this genre.

You state you are both a core gamer and a fan of this genre and yet REFUSE to play the demo !!!!

WTH is kidding who here as I am a core gamer and a fan of this genre and wouldn't think of not trying for FREE a demo that is readily available.

To add insult to injury, then come to a gaming forum and proceed to trash the game.

I ask again, wht is kidding who my fellow gamer ?
