Yeah, it has some potential, but it rely's on the ONLINE DEMOGRAPHIC only, so already it's market it limited.

I might give this a shot since i have a great connection... But will the big 3 allow their exclusives and first party games on this? That really limits the library. And will onlive get exclusive games?

I doubt this will take off to be honest. Not in this generation anyway.

The competition is tight as it is.

If you don't have a fast internet connection (more than 1.5MB) expect your games to look like crap. I am pretty sure no one here has over 3 MB.

Its a good idea I have to admit. But really a console is a console, you need the games to back you up. If you don't have first party games that are strong enough, it'll only end as a gimmick.

I got 5 and 10ms but I still wouldn't expect a 1080p 7.1 audio out of that.

I have 15MB/s. No that isn't a typo.

I'm intrigued by this service; if it can really deliver lag-free gaming, it will be an extremely compelling value proposition.

streaming wise definately not. This could take off huge if fiber optics were commonplace throughout the larger countries of the world (damn you Japan)

My question is why wouldn't 360, PS3, Wii just do this if it became popular?

Exactly, thinking that a new name on the scene thought of this and the big companies offering consoles didn't, is just kinda silly. In theory it sounds great, running high specced games through an internet connection on your crapola pc, but in practice something like this will turn out incredibly expensive, potentially a major chore to implement. It's a risk for the company.

I'd imagine the OnLive guys have the technology patented up the wazoo and aren't interested in licensing the tech to their competitors.

I won't buy a next gen console that doesn't have discs. If all consoles go DD next gen, I'll be more than happy to collect games for NES, SNES, PS2, PS3, Wii, and GCN.

FragTycoon

They will need it alright, because they will have to cover

1. the vast bandwidth of delivering 720HD in millions

2. the vast computational power needed to run multiple instances of the latest games in great visuals and high settings

To me, that is totally impossible to work in actual reality

Nintendo wouldnt probably have much of a problem since their console relies heavily on their "unique" controller and their first party games.... but I also dont think that Sony and MS would just stand right there and watch their arses get whipped by this(if it does deliver) I guess all we have to do now is wait and see what will happen... I know its sweet being able to play Crysis on my sluggish PC(I have good connection :D) but part of me doesnt want this service to succeed... oh and one more thing.... here's hoping that the billing wont hurt my wallet, cuz, I have a funny feeling that it would(Im guessing maintaining those high-end servers aint cheap).

Sony and MS could be if it takes off.

But, with no wiimote, nintendo's not in any danger.

OnLive will fail. Lag is enough of a problem without having to stream the entire game. Nice idea, but not practical, especially when ISPs start charging by the gigabyte.

I remember hearing about this concept - bringing cloud computing to gaming - years ago, but at that time the input lag was just to great to overcome. If they really have overcome that problem, than we might be in for a revolution in the game industry.

It is pretty amazing. I predicted that streaming tech would exist for gaming in the near future, after reading up on it..... but I didnt expect it to be this soon...... at all. I thought there would be a sort of renaissance in pc gaming... I guess this could be it, as well as all the other happenings.
