Yeah. I don't think OnLive is going anywhere. The PC version of Homefront is pretty much dead while the OnLive version is booming with tons of players. Shows how much people love the service when they are enjoying such a mediocre game. Just imagine if MW3 came to OnLive.

Too bad I wasted over $200 on a system with potential that never happened. Oh well.

Put the service in a world area with a infastructure better and it does better. As many many many people have said, the service is nice if connections work nicely. I never understood onlives idea to start in the US with ISPs love to throttle, upload speeds being so comically low, and connection speeds that vary greatly from the proposed speed (Buy 18mbps connection and actually get max of 2mbps etc etc). I think onlive would do even better if they went to some of the western countries such as taiwan, japan, south korea etc. Did onlive ever up the resolution to 1080p?

It's not hard to have a lot of players when you have such a pitiful selection of games. Screen or it didn't happen btw.

It'd be even more dead than Homefront?

"The growth in the UK has been faster than when we launched in the US, It went beyond what we ever imagined. THE UK launch of games streaming service OnLive reached 'millions' of users. To say we were Overwhelmed is not even the word. The numbers in the UK are ten times what we projected, and those numbers are part of an overall global figure in the 'tens of millions' "

Reading headlines is an assumption. Plus they linked the wrong article. He won't even give exact figures.

Why'd you switch the website? Are you trying to give your own website more hits? :? It also doesn't state who even owns a game.

Don't know why you continue to support something that gives an overall worse experience.

In on Rikusaki Onlive hype thread.

Considering the fact that the service is free for anyone to register and DL the client, I wouldnt put too much stock in that number. How many people signed up just to try it, thought it sucked, and after 1 hour of using it, NEVER touched it again for a year?

The service is also still terrible and laggy, you do not own the games you buy, and most of the games look worse than the 360 versions, and you can get the ACTUAL PC versions (which are leages better) on steam for cheaper . This service is such a joke in its current state it is not even funny.

Da_lil_PimP

Hmm.. Let's see.. OnLive has

  • L.A. Noire
  • Saints Row: The Third
  • Batman: Arkham City (coming soon)
  • Assassins Creed: Revelations (coming soon)
  • Lord of the Rings: War in the North
  • Borderlands GOTY
  • DiRT 3
  • FEAR 3
  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent
  • Split/Second
  • Just Cause 2

OnLive has a good selection of games. It's great to see Rockstar Games hopped on board not too long ago. ^_^

The only place OnLive is going is out of business once the other companies get in on cloud streaming. Once Microsoft, Sony, and Apple start setting up streaming services, it's game over for OnLive.

OnLive has patents. They scored a huge patent on cloud gaming.

No it's not. Says it right in the article.

And @ the people complaining about Onlive...welcome to the beginning of the new PC system requirement...Internet Speed.

Cloud services and streaming are the future of computing...soon it won't matter how powerful your PC is since everything your doing will be delivered via the cloud.

It won't happen tomorrow, but it's not too far away either.

I for one love the idea of Onlive. Unfortunatley, my internet is too slow to try it, but I will be fixing that soon so I can enjoy hassel free PC gaming.

Onlive isn't perfect yet, but I believe it's the future of gaming.

Of course not, you don't even own a copy of the game, it states in the terms and conditions that even when you buy a game Onlive reserve the right to remove it at anytime. It's a service destined to fail I'm afraid, which is a shame because once the service closes down all that money spent on games would of been for nothing.

And if it's failing, then why are the numbers growing so much? I mean, maybe in AMERICA it's not doing as well...but in case you didn't know, America isn't the only place companies like Onlive consider.

Again, Onlive isn't perfect, but it's the beginning steps towards the future of gaming.

Booming? Well, I have an online account, and a bunch of games for it - as well as the micro console and controller; all of which I got for free at the Eurogamer Expo (the OnLive guys there are really nice chaps as well, very friendly). And I'd imagine a big part of that 'boom' would have been the free systems - there were damn long lines; I waited an hour for one with a friend. Another thing is I wouldn't assume people's 'love' for it. By these technical standards I am a launch adopter for the UK, and own the full kit; but I can't say I love the thing at all - even if the build quility of the controller is fantastic, and the service isn't too shabby. It hasn't cut into my gaming time, and I doubt it will to be honest - though I have AssBro and Space Marine to play.

True, but the difference is once I buy a PC game I can still play it even if the company who made it closes down. Imagine spending thousands of dollars on games for Onlive only for them to close down. You'd be left with nothing, it's not worth it.

It's not hassle free, and I wouldn't say it offers anything compared to what PC gaming does; rather On Live is a small slice of PC gaming; and there's certain fundamental problems there holding it back from ever reaching that. For what it is though, it's not bad at all.

I'm not sure how anyone can play this blurry out of sync mess tbh. I've tried OnLive UK for a good few hours on a 10MB down connection, the quality is terrible even for 720p. Constant blurred quality whilst you're moving ingame and the controller lag is very noticeable. I'd rather play my PS1 on my HDTV. These sales mean nothing as far as I'm concerned. This service will never beat a quality gaming PC.

Well, when there's evidence of people spending thousands of dollars on Onlive, then suddenly finding their collection gone...then I would agree with you.

But if people are buying the game...why on earth would it be pulled from their lineup?

I just think PC gamers have a hard time conceptualizing the idea of playing PC games without the need for an expensive rig. So obviously, anything that allows a gamer to do that must be terrible.

Oh, and another reason why Cloud gaming is the future...piracy. Aren't PC developers always complaining about piracy? Well, having games delivered via the cloud and streaming pretty much removes piracy from the equation right?

Onlive may not be the future...but cloud gaming IS.

I don't really care because I can play games on pc with no input lag, no compression, and higher graphical fidelity. It's definitely a nice option and good for trying out a game because of the 30 minute trials however.

It's true and it in that respect it was both very impressive, and a smart marketing move; compared to the junk that's doled out at lets say, Gamescom. However I highly doubt the company expects the install base to stick and hold as the service is very much in its infancy, and moreso in the UK with its limited library. Another problem is that On Live is still floating in the market - it's not a portable service, and it's not a great cost effective substitute to a home system; even if you're paying for a fibre optic line. I'm honestly willing to bet however, once the wireless latency is better and the tablet client kicks off it'll find a place. Also considering you're the go to person on SW for all things OnLive, will the current controller be getting PC bluetooth support at all, or is only their announced separate controller going to do that? If it's the later that's a shame as I'd actually like to use the controller for my PC.

The OnLive Universal Controller uses bluetooth. The controller and OnLive Android/iOS app are expected to come out before the end of this year.

I'm honestly willing to bet however, once the wireless latency is better and the tablet client kicks off it'll find a place.skrat_01
Personally I think OnLive is doomed to fail as a individual entity. The only real market potential it has is for one of the large hardware developers to consume them to save themselves the trouble of working launching there own cloud based gaming when the time for it to actually be a good idea comes. But considering that both Sony and Microsoft are allready heavilly vested in cloud tech, I doubt OnLive is something they are looking at, if Nintendo doesn't grab them (Doubtfully as Nintendo seems allegric to online play) If OnLive doesn't get swooped up they will be crushed underfoot by companies with far better relations with the market (The big 3) Everything OnLive does screams "BUY ME!...please....someone buy me!" That includes sending people cheques to preform viral marketing for them on online forums...not that I'm insinuating anything...

Cloud gaming is going to fail. I for one will never support it. Not owning my games and no option to have a physical copy=epic fail. Cloud gaming will never be the future of gaming.

You can at least back up Steam games on a disk if you want to, Onlive doesn't even have the option.

I dont purchase games from steam nor use the service. When you buy games off steam i thought you were buying a digital copy? is that not true?
