Yeah. I don't think OnLive is going anywhere. The PC version of Homefront is pretty much dead while the OnLive version is booming with tons of players. Shows how much people love the service when they are enjoying such a mediocre game. Just imagine if MW3 came to OnLive.

Rikusaki

Wouldn't that be an indicator of how bad the selection is rather than how good the service is?

[QUOTE="RyviusARC"]Here are some recording videos I did for Onlive. This is the best quality you will receive when using it. Remember to watch the videos in 1080P for the best quality. Dirt 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDxRhOPYG_Q Mafia 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM_FbUi__mI Splinter Cell Conviction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkla4LzpvhM Metro 2033. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjhAkhpJKSQ . .Duke Nukem Forever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYfhuTXQBGQLoegi
Onlive currently doesn't match a good pc in terms of graphics, but it does match match the consoles. And I thought upscaling reduces some of the quality? Shouldn't you just watch it in the native resolution of 720p? Because that's the best you'll get with a good connection.

In some areas it's worse than consoles(I know because I recently tried Onlive), at least various console games have some AA and can actually go above 720p(some of them).

Nope uspcaling is better but not by much.

At least it's better than what I get with Onlive, I get 480p...

I get 720p and wow...

[QUOTE="Loegi"] No installation needed. The way Onlive is setup, I rather have that, I don't mind.

Integrated online community with tournaments clips etc. No argument there.

No need to update your games. Hope it updates automatically like Steam, would be odd playing unpatched games.

Every system can play it, soon even phones and tablets if I'm not mistaken. Not well as of now.

You can use keyboard+mouse or a controller wherever you like. Good point.Loegi

I honestly expected more.

Seriously? I thought those were some pretty good points. You also never need to hassle with graphic drivers, or upgrading your pc. And the phones and tablets stream the games quite well as of now, you can just not play them now, but that was originally announced to come in the autumn of 2011, if I'm not mistaken.

After trying Onlive, I would rather upgrade my PC and put up with graphics drivers, at least it can be fixed and get the best settings instead of 720p, low res textures and no AA. Though it's good to hear it being used for mobile devices.

I just tried OnLive right now and I must say I'm really impressed. Sure, it doesn't have the graphical quality of a high-end PC but it's certainly acceptable. And I had virtually no lag. And this was from Portugal accessing OnLive in the UK. If they keep this up, improve it and keep reasonable prices I certainly can see this replacing consoles. They even have this thing they call a micro-console really cheap that you just plug to your TV and play with a gamepad. Yeah I know you can hook up your PC to a TV and play with a gamepad but for many people this will be a more natural option. They even have rentals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyHtqFMCnZE This looks like high settings to me (textures and AA), the only negative part is the compression going on. When they perfect that, I see no reason to go back to ordinary consoles or pc.

That's not the only negative part. The thing that bothered me themostwas the low resolution. Gaming on a PC you tend to be accustomed to high image clarity. Low resolution coupled with compression are the main negative things for me. But like I said I'm very impressed with the service and I'm sure it will improve.

I meant that was the same as compression, because if you lower the resolution, you can make the file smaller. It's a form of compression.

Lack of options alone makes me prefer PC, not to mention the library. I want my 1920x1200 and max settings with no problems please, Onlive won't be doing that res anything soon if ever.

That's a racing game, and it's quite laggy to be smooth. I would like to see more demanding games do well.

Onlive itself maybe not, but I think some kind of game streaming service will replace pc gaming. Maybe not in the next year, maybe not in the next ten years, maybe not even in the next 100 years, but I think it will happen somewhere in the future.

Looking on DRM and Online Passes puching of publishers, they would definitly love to sell game as service, on other hand you right it won't kill interest to make games on devices, specially indie guys

OnLive is a bigger threat to console gaming than it is to PC gaming. PC gamers are willing to pay for the very best, they'll not settle for something like OnLive for the sake of simplicity. Console gamers on the other hand can very easily move to something like OnLive, if they have a good network connection that is. And if OnLive establishes partnerships with ISPs so that TV boxes come preinstalled with an OnLive player, that could have a severe impact on the console business. Or if they partner with Samsung, LG or other TV manufacturers so that the TV comes with an OnLive app, that would be cool.

Just tried Homefront MP. The lag makes it unplayable for me. However, for SP it's acceptable. I'm sure it will improve. I'm not about to switch any time soon but I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

People would need faster connections to make it doable, and I'm sure not everyone wants to be online to game even for single player, we'll see.

I for one have the spottiest Internet that one can ever get. Random dropouts every 2-3 hours, with the occasional router lagspikes to top it off.

Well I have 20mbps and Onlive barely uses a fourth of mt bandwidth and I get poor results, then Another person I know that also has 50meg gets the same results across the country and of course Ryvius lives within an hour away from the nearest Onlive server and even his quality fluctuates with great internet. The TC is just so infatuated with Onlive it borders fanboy nonsense. Onlive does not have Millions of regular users... I bet at least 75% are just accounts that were made to test and see.

Expected it to flop, but if not then good. The more competition the better.

I can run two instances of OnLive and the quality doesn't drop one bit.

I have two instances of OnLive running right now. My sister is on the other laptop and she's spectating someone. I will remember to take some screens when I get the chance.

I tried running Mafia 2 on a 15mb down, 27mb up connection with 3ms to San Fran. Still has laggy controls and below console graphics.

Yeah. It's definitely clearer than that on my end. And something is wrong with those framerates. OnLive runs much smoother for me. I also see some screen tearing in games that don't have screen tearing when I play them. :?Rikusaki
Liar. I live really close to an Onlive server. I have a really good connection. What you see in my videos is the best you can get. If you think you can do better how about you record some gameplay of one of the games I did and upload it to youtube.

Apparently there is an Onlive server in Luxembourg, and I get 6.94mb/s down and 1.05mb/s up to Luxembourg, live quite close by, and still get 480p at max. So yeah.

The TC probably doesn't care about OnLive aside from the viral marketing pay he gets. I swear people just post to point out how wrong Rikusaki is...but we all still keep responding it's like a wounded animal in a pack of lions. Everyone just has to pounce.

I was getting 720P though. I know what 480P looks like. I Have a 13.8 down and 2.2 up. Onlive uses around half of it and sometimes more when it spikes up to 8mb/s for a brief period of time. But I have plenty of bandwidth and I have a good connection. It never dropped to 480P in any of my videos. All of it was 720P upscaled to 1080P.

I take it you haven't seen the youtube video he made where it sounded like he was orgasming to onlive starting up.

Also Rikusaki says my videos have screen tearing and stuttering but what he doesn't realize is that those things would have to be present on Onlive's side. Maybe they don't vsync their games. And any stuttering is from their side too. I have a dual monitor setup and while playing Onlive on one monitor the second monitor showed me all the data for my bandwidth, CPU usage, and GPU usage plus many other things. If there was ever a problem on my side I could easily tell.

Devs aren't afraid of the service itself. They're just afraid of the very low revenue it'll bring, because it's the least accessible platform there is. Seriously, if you take into account the world population of gamers, how many as a percentage could stream games at 720p?starjet905
From the other thread about OnLive. See why OnLive isn't going to be a very big success? Of course, Rikusaki is just gonna ignore this post meekly.
