I for one love the idea of Onlive. Unfortunatley, my internet is too slow to try it, but I will be fixing that soon so I can enjoy hassel free PC gaming.

xxxLUGZxxx

This is NOT PC gaming. This is watered down console gaming.

This is a really *****y future for gaming if it were true.

Yup Gabe has said multiple times that if Steam went under, we would still own all of our games. Unfortunately people don't like hearing that because it neglects their argument.

[QUOTE="Da_lil_PimP"]

There's so many people on Homefront Onlive is because it has no other games.

Rikusaki

Hmm.. Let's see.. OnLive has

  • L.A. Noire
  • Saints Row: The Third
  • Batman: Arkham City (coming soon)
  • Assassins Creed: Revelations (coming soon)
  • Lord of the Rings: War in the North
  • Borderlands GOTY
  • DiRT 3
  • FEAR 3
  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent
  • Split/Second
  • Just Cause 2

OnLive has a good selection of games. It's great to see Rockstar Games hopped on board not too long ago. ^_^

None of those games require a beat computer except maybe Arkham City. Don't see why you would use Onlive to play, I'm sure low settings look better than Onlive.

Can you mod your games in OnLive?

If not then count me out.

Bad news...

Someone is apparently hacking OnLive and is playing games that aren't even out yet (Arkham City, Revelations).

How much did Onlive pay you to put that lil banner on your sig and to make this topic? jk!

I hope this service becomes big enough to put pressure on providers to increase bandwidth and infrastructure improvements for all.

:lol::lol::lol:

Of course, Installed User Base and Active Installed User Base are two completely seperate things. I downloaded the software and demoed a couple games. Haven't touched it since, but I guarantee you they count me as a user for their purposes. If they had an active base even remotely approaching those figures, they'd actually get press beyond drumming some up for themselves...

If that's true they need to take some of that income and invest in more datacenters. There are only three or four for the entire United States.

Well I have to give credit where credit is due, I never expected Onlive to take off. I was one of the non believers.

It's not for me, but props to Steve Perlman regardless. Congratulations.

I thought the idea was just stupid, I admire the risk, it must have been tough to convince investors.

Although I do think the Onlive TV console is way overpriced at around £70 the last time I checked.

I dont understand i have a pretty decent connection why is my game lagging so much, i bought this and wanted to show off this tech to my friend so he could get the game when i booted it up he laughed at me. It cant be my connection.

Yep! People love free stuff. lol

Rikusaki
It's true and it in that respect it was both very impressive, and a smart marketing move; compared to the junk that's doled out at lets say, Gamescom. However I highly doubt the company expects the install base to stick and hold as the service is very much in its infancy, and moreso in the UK with its limited library. Another problem is that On Live is still floating in the market - it's not a portable service, and it's not a great cost effective substitute to a home system; even if you're paying for a fibre optic line. I'm honestly willing to bet however, once the wireless latency is better and the tablet client kicks off it'll find a place. Also considering you're the go to person on SW for all things OnLive, will the current controller be getting PC bluetooth support at all, or is only their announced separate controller going to do that? If it's the later that's a shame as I'd actually like to use the controller for my PC.

The OnLive Universal Controller uses bluetooth. The controller and OnLive Android/iOS app are expected to come out before the end of this year.

But how about the current controller? Will that get bluetooth support for PCs?

Of course the install base is huge -- it's free. Gamers love free things. That's just the nature of gamers. I wonder what the percentage of people playing regularly is (more than an hour a day).

Everything free has been installed millions of times, tell us exactly how many of these accounts have at least two games. Then we'll see where these millions of installs really matter.

I think one thing that this tech could be interesting for in the near future is demos. Just to try out a game without having to download a 4gb file or whatever would be pretty nice. As for replacing the consoles and PC it's not there yet, I tried on my 8mb connection and it was like playing a youtube video, but for trying out demos I would be fine with that type of performance.

So then I assume you have the exact same feelings for Steam then?

I dont purchase games from steam nor use the service. When you buy games off steam i thought you were buying a digital copy? is that not true?

The games require Steam to run, so in theory if Steam were to go out of business and shut down their servers, the games would also stop working. They could update the games to not require Steam, though, whereas Onlive streams games, so there is no way to solve the problem.

onlive has come leaps and bounds since launch and the playpass in an insanely good deal but it still has the worst versions of every multiplat available.

seriously, they are bad, even ps3 guys would look at them and go, ewwwww!

edit: lol actually this reminds me my buddy told me last night they are doing free microconsole with a game again, i need to go check that out i really was bummed when i missed out on that deal.

It's a crap service... because they don't max the games out and even with super fast internet it looks like crap when you move. I tryed it and would never dedicate myself to it. There is latency you can feel in the games.

Should checkout Gaikai, it's exactly that. A streaming and demo service embedded in a web browser. See an advertised game you're interested in, hit the and you can play the game instantly, for a set amount of time; I'm pretty sure they currently have Mass Effect 2 available. It's pretty amazing, and honestly I think there's much more interesting potential here than a service like On Live in terms of marketability.

Why are all of you people lying? I very rarely experience any lag. In fact, xbox live and psn lag as much as OnLive. Are you really that blind of fanboys to lash out at anything new or "dangerous" to your precious ps3 and xbox? I love OnLive. It's the best thing to happen to video games in a long time.

Why would anyone go with Onlive? It's just streaming and you pay just to basically rent the games, you don't own any of them at all. Sorry while I think DD is going to happen in the future eventually, as of right now it's a joke. Just use Steam instead, it's far better plus you get to keep the game you bought and you will save money too.

You just rent games off of Onlive, you don't actually own any of them. And Steam has great deals and it's free too, I recommend that you go check it out.
