How many are playing games like World of warcraft,Star wars the Old republic,League of Legends,Battlefield 3 or Starcraft 2 on the PC rigth now?
Remember that steam isn´t the only service the PC has,unlike the consoles,this is just steam alone. Doesn´t count Battle.net or Origin and others,while the console numbers are consolidated into one service.
It would make more sense to compare to COD on consoles to SWTOR, SC2 or WoW. and Steam is just one of MANY network apps on PC, as opposed to consoles only having ONE network for each console (lmao). the fact that Steam alone is higher than XBL, PSN concurrent use is hilarious.http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

EDIT : If I were to make a thread that compiled data of total current PC game network use (Origin, Battle.net, Gametap, Steam etc.), the number would be so staggering that you'd think its fake.

True, though this thread is about steam. Were not counting wii/(3)DS/ psp/ps2 etc. either are we? Looking at those stats its clear there's no where near the number of logged in people playing a game so the news the thread started with is pointless.
Nothing against pc folks but don't brag without getting the facts straight.
Well why would people download a program to play games if they're not pc gamers? It doesn't matters if they're playing or not. I think the TC just wants to show the increasing number of people that like Steam.
[QUOTE="vtoshkatur"]
[QUOTE="_Cadbury_"]
That's for people specifically playing MW3, not logged onto the console as a whole. And that article suggests it could be as high as 3 million.
Why would it be surprising for the consoles to have less concurrent users anyway. PCs are used for more than just gaming so they're obviously going to still be running with steam in the background. There's not much reason to leave your console running all day and logged onto PSN/XBL if you aren't playing a game._Cadbury_
The artical says online at once Due to the release of MW3. Not all playing MW3. Please show me where in the artical it says that all 3 million are playing MW3.
Why are you lowly console peasants so mad that theres more PC gamers then console gamers. Ignorance is bliss I suppose. Although I guess I would be mad too if I was a fanboy of a system that is in a desprate fight for second place...

No,we´re not counting "wii/(3)DS/ psp/ps2 etc" because ,they´re systems,not services. You stated CoD,wich is the most popular game on the consoles(but not on the PC),and I merely ststed some popular PC games,even though they arent´t on steam,because plenty of the PC games you see on the most played steam list are also available outside of steam,so,unlike the consoles,those numbers don´t mean the overall number of people playing that specific game.Well why would people download a program to play games if they're not pc gamers? It doesn't matters if they're playing or not. I think the TC just wants to show the increasing number of people that like Steam.

Please show me where it says 'due to the release of MW3'.......
"both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops previously managed the same, with 2+ million and 2.6+ million players, respectively. "
"The exact number of concurrent users for Modern Warfare 3 hasn't been revealed yet, but it obviously should be more than 2.6M players."
This to me suggests it's numbers for the game only, not multiple games..._Cadbury_

ROFL!!! you're the one that actually thinks consoles are better than PC. Seriosuly what on gods green earth made you come to that conclusion anyway? Perhaps just ignorance. Anyway have fun with your low resolution, muddy textures and bad controls and everything else your plastic "toy" provides you with.
Doesn´t it count for the console numbers when people are just watching netflix and other similar things aside from gaming? If so,then there is a reason for people to be logged in without playing games.I have steam and I play PC games. It's not surprising that consoles have less concurrent players than steam. Only what Valve tells us directly. Which was "over 40 million" about 8 months ago, which was the last time they mentioned it (which was also the time Steam first broke the 4 million concurrent mark). Which leads me to believe that the number is probably somewhere close to 50 million active accounts world wide.
Or close ot the total number of Xbox 360's ever SOLD. Not actually being used for gaming.

Get over the fact that not everyone likes playing on the pc. Let me tell you about my exprience with steam. When i got a new pc 1.5 years ago I had to try crysis. Great game, no doubt but for some reason Steam takes 10+ minutes to load the home screen for me(not exagerating). More people had this problem on W7 64 and no fix was known for the unfortunate. PC is good enough (I5, 6gb DDR3, ATI 57xx) but still had popup everywhere and waiting 10 minutes for steam to load is not exactly customer friendly. After crysis i uninstalled steam and never went back. I'm in the minority with this problem but it put me off pc gaming fast.
Never mind the fact I can't get used to m/k (yes, played crysis on pc with a 360 controller, flame away ;) ). Did play it on my 46" tv from the couch and that's how i prefer it. Lots of games on pc don't have controller support like stalker which I really wanted to play. I'm behind a desk 8 hours a day at work and when i game I want to lay back. Consoles are perfect for me and 100+ million like me. consoles >>>> pc for me.

It´s numbers from steam alone,for just one service it´s very impressive,it doesn´t represent the whole playerbase of the system.And people have XBL logged in and running when they're watching films or doing utterly anything else. Same with PSN. Keep in mind XBL hit 2 million concurrent users as its peak, and that's the most active online service on a console.I think the consolites on this thread are 100% right.
In fact I'm certain that 99.9% of all those 5 million people installed Steam and have it running at load time for other reasons which have NOTHING to do with gaming on a PC.
For example, my grandma installed it because she thought it was an app that made the PC "steam" and allow it ot be used as a humidifier for her living room. My uncle installed it 'cause he thought it would update his background wallpaper with pictures of steam locomotives (he's a big train buff, and he doesn't even play Train Simulator - available on Steam!).
Hell, the only reason all my friends installed it is 'cause it looks pretty on the taskbar!

Had to look up the invoice. 5770. According to benchmarks it was supposed to run it on max at 45fps if I recall correctly. Yet, it didn't (still loved the game though)
What resolution were you playing on? Because theres no way in hell a 5770 would average 45 fps at 1080p

You could probably get that fps with a 1440x900 or 1650x 1050 or whatever that resolution is. Both of which are way higher resolutions than either of the consoles could dream of.

no,no,no,NO. A lot of PC gamers hate Steam and uninstall it after they witness the network errors. A lot of PC gamers are running games off torrents as well. (unfortunately) so the total concurrent use will never be trully gathered.[QUOTE="elcoholic"][QUOTE="vtoshkatur"]
