[QUOTE="Grive"][QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Actually, games for windows is a viral marketing campaign PAID FOR by Microsoft. In no way does Microsoft earn royalties from it, and in no way does it make it a Microsoft platform. Vandalvideo

It's more than just marketing. They're also making it a standarization process - GfW needs compatibility with microsoft hardware (360 controller), standarizing packaging, and other things. It's definitely a bid for power from MS into the PC gaming industry, and I'm pretty sure there's a licencing/certification fee planned sometime in the future, not to mention the XBL integration.

I didn't say it made it a microsoft platform - just that it was a move ms is making to increase their control of the PC industry, and this is pretty much undebatable.

I'm going in an entirely valid direction for my arguement. I'm using Mr. Console's logic here. He says because the operating system is owned by Microsoft its a Microsoft platform. Well....no. You also need the engine and the hardware in it. Theres a huge difference between consoles and PCs. The console is manufactured by the actual company, while the PC IS NOT MANUFACTURED BY MICROSOFT. The PC is a collaboration of many different companies. Vandalvideo

The only actual difference, then, is that the PC is modular and thus you can choose exactly which of the compatible components go into your PC. It is quite a noticeable difference, yes. It still doesn't mean it's more of a collaboration of companies than consoles.

I repeat my argument: "engine" and "hardware parts manufacturer" are irrelevant when it comes to who owns the platform. And I repeat once again: I don't think MS owns PC gaming, just that they're the closest thing PC gaming has to an owner, under these reasons:
  • By and large, MS has been influencing the path of PC gaming on a technical level (DirectX, XNA)
  • Most PC gaming occurs under a ms platform (windows) regardless of who made the actual chip.
  • MS is developing the main cohesive marketing strategy for the medium
Again, MS DOES NOT OWN PC GAMING. I don't think they do. I'm just noting that game engine and chip designer and manufacturer are not valid arguments for this.

Well since you're not making the arguement that Microsoft owns the platform, why repsond? I mean you aren't really refuting what I'm saying. You're merely scaling down the degree to which my arguement works. It still totally works. By the console fanboy's logic just because you use Microsoft software its a MIcrosoft platform. You use other companies in your computer as well. So by his logic its all of their platforms. Heres the funny thing. The TC is arguing against himself.

OK, here's the ONLY thing that matters. The PC is not in competition with the 360, or any other console for that matter. Maybe here in system wars, but not outside in the real world. Outside in the real world, if a game is on one console but not the others, it is an exclusive. Until someone can tell me how being on PC and 360 diminishes its importance with being on only ONE console, then arguing about a game being available on PC is like arguing about a game being available on cell phone.

MS makes a profitts when you the customer buy their OS. They do not make a profit when you buy a PC game made by a company that is not owned by MS. Why do pppl keep thinking that games on pc, Ms makes a profit off of it?  If any thing MS should pay these games companies for making games that runs on their OS. with out them, what would windows be used for besides for work?

thats why a PC is called a Personal computer and a console is called a console let me repost this answer from one my post. then why are Xbox, ps3, and WII call consoles or enterntainment system? and not PCs???? we buy the PC to do our personal stuff that can be gaming, work, video editing, making games, surf the web, whatever you feel like. on consoles you are restricted to to stuff for example you cant burn a DVD. they are restricted because their not PC. now if console or plataform is not the right word for xbox,ps3 and wii then what is? what is the right word for an xbox, ps3 and wii ?

I dont think you understand.... MS has no link to PC gaming..... they dont profit from it, and they have no control over it. This applies to all PC software.

I find it hard to belive that MS does not make money by third party (or second Party) developers making games that play on their operating system but I will take you're word for it as I am not a PC gamer. But I still think MS has muddied the waters of the PC/360 mulit plat thing. I also think it will get even muddier once MS brings the Live anywhere concept where PC and 360 gamers can play "Games for Windows" together online. But for the sake of this argument you are right.

I also think it will get even muddier once MS brings the Live anywhere concept where PC and 360 gamers can play "Games for Windows" together online. But for the sake of this argument you are right.

Remember that a PC gamer like myself has no reasons to buy an Xbox360...because of the fact that most of its games are or will be on PC...

Since you consider those games console exclusives, you have all set the precedent that any future multiplats are PC exclusives. Fair enough? Disclaimer: This arguement is CaseyWagner's.

Bottom line is..... Games on PC and 360 are only on that system therefore it cant be called a exclusive, but its still a great game that is only on those 2 platforms, therefor if you dont own both of these platforms your owned...

[QUOTE="cobrax25"][QUOTE="vistamanV5"]While its not literal exclusive, it still can be used as "ownage" to sheep and cows cause they in no way shape or form play it on there console of choice...vistamanV5

what if they play it on a PC.....

doesnt matter, because the pc isnt a platform

yes it is.... you still have not given a valid reason why its not.

PC is not a games console its a gaming platform... There for I can say its a console exclusive, because the other consoles. PS3 and Wii cant play them...

If its available on any another platform, its not exclusive.  Console Exclusive is meaningless.  Its like saying Virtua Fighter  is Next gen graphics exclusive since it can only appear on the PS3 and 360 and not the Wii.  Its not exclusive in any way, shape or form.  Its Multiplat.

OK, here's the ONLY thing that matters. The PC is not in competition with the 360, or any other console for that matter. Maybe here in system wars, but not outside in the real world. Outside in the real world, if a game is on one console but not the others, it is an exclusive. Until someone can tell me how being on PC and 360 diminishes its importance with being on only ONE console, then arguing about a game being available on PC is like arguing about a game being available on cell phone.shsonline

many people choose not to buy a 360 because it shares so many games with the pc. therefore, there is competition.

That is true and again you are not wrong. The only really difference is if you are playing a game on a PC with Windows then MS has already made their money on you whether they make a dime on the game or not. Lemmings argument is MS turned a profit on you're PC gaming exsperience while Sony and Nintendo did not. I also think the Lemmings and Hermits will grow closer toghether over the next few years, but that is just a hunch.

Console Exclusive?  Your kidding now right?  What about FF XI, is that an exclusive title?

No cause its on the PS2 as well....

Forgot about the 360 version.  Nevermind, I need a more solid example.

yes it was a ps2 exclusive until it came out on 360. an example your looking for is devil may cry 3 its still ps2 exclusive even though i can play it on my pc. its not confusing at all because pc is not a console its a pc. you didnt buy a pc because of devil may cry, you bough it because it serves for your personal purpose. a console only serve for enterntainment nothing else.

Fine its not a exclusive, its a PC and 360 game only.... Either way its still some ownage.....

In other words, multiplat.

Lets be real here Casey in the real world, x360 is only in competition PS3 and Wii... If PC was in the mix for competition MS would limit there games on one platform.... Most people (people not on SW) view X360 and PS3 and Wii, as the consoles competition...

or, MS would increase the games for both, which would lead to more profit.

i agree with casey. if it was for gears of war i would not have this white box sitting in my living room collecting dust. And alot of 3rd party that make games for 360 also makes games for pc due to them being mostly FPS games. Even though alot of lemmings feel that Mass Effect will onlyh be for the 360 i beg to differ. When Mass effect was first announced it was annouced for the PC and 360. so i highly doubt that it will be only for the 360. There is not enough 360 1st party exclusives for me to own a 360 any longer. Forza 2 looks good, but i think im better off with getting ps3 and play Gt5. but this is just my opinion. alot of my friends who are pc gamers / ps 3 owners makes fun of me for owing a 360 due to games being pc/360 games.  When my pc is 100x better then my 360 on performance. 360 is only good for ppl who down own a up to par pc.
