My PC rig did cost more than a current gen console, but... I made that money back by getting the same multiplat games at a cheaper price, with better graphics and the definitive versions.
You guys were so excited to get four 3rd person action games, that is pretty much the same damn games just with different characters.

Excuse while I go play S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Infested Planet, Epistory, a heavily modded Skyrim, Torchlight 2, Titan Quest + Expansion, Grim Dawn, Tropico, Dawn of War 2 with mods, the original Witcher, Space Engineers and dozens of other games you don't have access to. Keep your four games lol.

I can't stand the fact that alot of PC games this gen got downgraded for parity. I own a PS4 and a gaming PC and can't stand this BS companies purposely downgrade the PC version is just as bad as microtransactions and loot boxes every system should be used to it's strength.

@warmblur: the money is just not there in PC gaming for developers to go out of there way to maximize it. Just like ray tracing, it will only take off once consoles can support it.

At that rate we are doomed. If a PC player really wants to he can game in 8k, it will cost piles of cash but it can be done. Imagine pushing a game like RDR2 or GOW into 8k territory.

I really wish I could play your precious RDR2 with a keyboard and mouse. The stick aiming feels kind of awful. Worse than in other console shooters.

It's not really awful in Rockstar games, because they have the strongest auto aim you can imagine; it's too damn easy with the auto aim, even with sticks. It is awful without auto aim, however.

I refuse to play with Soft Lock. I might sell my copy after I'm finished and then wait for the PC version. It will also be nice to be able to hold the run button on PC without leaving the other keys. You can hold the run button in RDR2 and GTA while aiming by pressing your index finger down on Cross/A, but it's very awkward. Outdated piece of shit hardware, these controllers. Aiming with your thumb makes no sense. The devs put shooting mechanics into all the games, but the console makers and gamers cling to this inadequate trash design. Fine for games that aren't about aiming. Almost all of them are, though. It's also partly Rockstar, like you said. I swear, aiming isn't this hard in other games.

How many e-sports are played on consoles?

30 fps + 8 layers of post processing input lag results in the most casual gaming experience possible. Consoles are a joke.

Next gen will likely be the last console generation. After that, we're moving into game streaming, at which point crappy hardware won't be holding PC gaming back anymore (but then I'm not sure there will even be a need for PC gaming anymore either).

PC gamers can easily buy a console to play the few exclusives if they want. So, please explain to me how console gaming is better than PC gaming when the consoles have such shit hardware that can't even run games properly.

Yea only garbage internet will hold everyone back regardless of platform. At that point I'll just keep collecting physical media for the likes of NES/SNES etc

I live in Canada. We're like 100 years behind the rest of the world (except maybe USA) in internet infrastructure, and I still have 1 Gbit internet (they just came out with 1.5 Gbit packages). Within 10 years, I expect everyone (or at least everyone who has enough disposable income to play video games) in the developed world to be online at 1 Gbit+ speeds.

There still might be a niche need for PC gaming in e-sports as you need 0 input lag there, but with 1 Gbit+ speeds, input lag will be imperceptible for most gaming needs. Consoles right now have copious amounts of input lag, and these games are running directly on hardware. Low FPS + post processing adds a metric shit ton of delay, and console plebs are okay with that. Streaming on a decent connection would be smoother than that.

The PC gaming market is bigger than ever with a strong mid range PC demographic. With middleware such as Unreal Engine 4 and Cryengine it is a lot easier to make good looking games especially for smaller studios and indies. By the time consoles can support hardware accelerated ray tracing there should already be affordable mid range GPUs that can do the same. Even then the consoles will most likely not utilize to the level of what the RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti are capable of especially since it eats a lot of performance and that makes it harder for console manufacturers to advertise things such as 4k gaming when ray tracing will make it near impossible. Speaking of which there are already over a dozen titles that will support Nvidia ray tracing so far and a good amount of them are PC only or PC first which are Assetto Corsa Competizione, MechWarrior 5: Mercemaries, Project DH, Justice, JX3 and Enlisted.

Yeah, without the soft lock, it's basically impossible. Lol I tried it in RDR1 on PS3 because it just wasn't fun with the crazy sticky aim, and I couldn't hit shit, especially since the framerate was fluctuating wildly and never stuck at a solid 30. After I got to Mexico, I did a couple missions then just quit out of sheer boredom.

And already you lost all credibility, those are not the best looking games, they are only the best looking games for consoles, and PC has way more to offer than just graphics but I didn't really expect anything substantial from a peasant. Why is it that ignorant console peasants think they are in a position to even talking about PC gaming? As IF I need an RTX 2080 to beat consoles in graphics, my current 980 Ti is more than 2 times powerful than an Xbox ONE X, let a lone a stinking PS4 Pro or a measly Switch.

I feel double your pain, because I'm paying 75 bucks a month for 150 mb/s down in the US. :( And I don't know if they're throttling me or what; I can't stream many 4k youtube videos without major buffering. But, monopolies own the US of A, so I'm stuck with 1 cable ISP in my area or god awful DSL.

It's an option.

@DragonfireXZ95 (nice name) that's like choosing between two lesser options. If there is overly generous auto-aim it feels bad. I hope we can dial it down a little without turning it off entirely. (I'm sure we can edit some .ini stuff on PC.)

Sick caveat. This the fundamental problem - indies don't count, RTS don't count, TBS don't count, MOBAs don't count... AAA multiplats don't count... there's a fundamental gap in interests I keep seeing here, where the rules of the game are "if you don't have console exclusives on a non-console then you have no games worth playing"

Well, with those rules, you win. PC doesn't have non-PC games. You're right.

Please tell us where are all those AAA PC exclusives?

PC gaming in a nutshell.....

1. More fragmented then the Android ecosystem.

2. Over priced hardware.

3. No games to truly take advantage of said hardware.

4. No real AAAE's these days.

5. Largely lives on Indies and multiplats.

6. Always being held back by consoles.

7. Never first priority for 99% of developers.

8. Dreadful API's and overhead compared to console.

9. Has to wait up to months in some cases for mutiplat games.

10. The developers that used to truly push the platform are all but a memory.

I could go on........

All that drivel aside, we are still playing games the best way possible on PC. If you care about quality, there is no other option. If PC gamers still want to play some of the console exclusives, they can purchase them as secondary platforms. There is no winning with console. They are a fail by default based on their shit hardware specs.

Unless you like playing late console ports or indies, the effort required to PC game is not really worth it anymore.

Gone are the days of exclusives such as F.E.A.R, Crysis, World in Conflict, etc as in games that push our PCs and demonstrate PC hardware superiority. Now its just slightly better looking versions of console games.

something like 95% of the games I am playing, have played over the past 4 years, want to play in the near future do not exist on consoles.

zero...literally zero of the console exclusives I have any interest in playing

so say what about 'exclusives'?

in the end, the modern era of PC gaming is about Steam and the games that they have that consoles do not have. There are some exceptions like Elite, but no way in friggin hell am I playing Elite Dangerous with a controller. HOTAS for me

Instead of calling it 'drivel' why you don't you try and counter it with logical counter arguments?

If you care about quality there's no other option? Does PC offer better quality in the games I like? Nope..... so there goes your whole argument.

PC's are fail by default because they don't offer to graphics to match their raw specs.....

You can build a PC in 2018 that has more raw power then what Playstation 5 will have..... but yet it won't offer Playstation 5 level graphics... Instant fail!

PC gaming is like playing remastered versions of current gen games that the next round of console will get but doing it a few years earlier.

@scatteh316: PC offers better quality for all games unless they are console exclusive. The worst part about the console exclusives, is you buy a console for them and you still can't enjoy them properly because most of them run at 30fps. Terrible. Like I said, consoles are a fail all around.

The convergence of hardware is inevitable. It would be unwise to think otherwise. All of these babbling about hardware with marginal benefits to the average consumer is growing more marginal with each hardware iteration. This generation of consoles has reduced the gap significantly. The next iteration of consoles would make it practically non existent. In fact the whole hardware war would be pretty much meaningless within the next 8 years. So fanboys, enjoy it while it last. :)

PC offers online communities that don't die off in an instant because of console generations among many other things. How many of you still fire up your PS3 or Xbox 360 to play some CS:GO? On PC it's still very alive.

This thread is dumb - from the immediate mention of the RTX line, I knew it would be that stupid "you need to spend 1 grand to get a gpu hurr hurr" meme.

How does it feel having a PC that could push out next generation graphics but instead has to push out whatever level PS4 dictates to it?

That must suck...... Nice to see you can't counter my 'drivel' either.... because you know what I said is all true...

brb PC games barely have dedicated servers or mod support nowadays.

30 FPS also works better on a pad than a keyboard + mouse.

You realize you can play PC games with a pad, correct?

@scatteh316: PC offers better quality for all games unless they are console exclusive. The worst part about the console exclusives, is you buy a console for them and you still can't enjoy them properly because most of them run at 30fps. Terrible. Like I said, consoles are a fail all around.

That's funny, myself and millions upon millions of others get on with them just fine...... so there goes your whole argument.

How does it feel having a PC that could push out next generation graphics but instead has to push out whatever level PS4 dictates to it?

That must suck...... Nice to see you can't counter my 'drivel' either.... because you know what I said is all true...

So, you are admitting that you and the millions don't care about quality. LOL

It feels amazing having a good PC actually. I can't complain when I am playing games at 3440x1440/120hz G-Sync and 4K/60fps max settings. :)

I am not going to waste my time countering your bullshit because PC is the greatest and we all know this. You can try to play devil's advocate all you want, but at the end of the day consoles will never have bragging rights other than a few exclusives, which PC gamers can easily buy a console for if they want.

I own all the platforms and I only play exclusives on consoles for a reason... because PC is the greatest and the consoles are a joke.

@scatteh316: CS:GO also launched on Xbox360 and PS3. Do people still fire up those consoles to play CS now?

PC keeps communities alive.

@warmblur: the money is just not there in PC gaming for developers to go out of there way to maximize it. Just like ray tracing, it will only take off once consoles can support it.

True it was awful way back when, PC was that unpopular online gaming didn't take off a whole DECADE before consoles and 3D cards never went anywhere like turn into a multi billion dollar market ,and digital distribution oof games just never picked up the money just is not there, just flash in the pans.

It's clearly obvious that the 30+ billion dollar PC hardware gaming Market and a similar sized software market just isn't popular, why let pesky things like reality get in the way of that assumption right?

You are overstating the importance of what YOU consider quality. It must be rough pretending to care so much. At least you are dedicated to the lie. :)

The saltiness in your reply says other wise...

1. You won't waste time countering my drivel because you can't and you're merely using time as an excuse to hide that fact.

2. Quality is more then just frame rate, then again when you don't have your own AAAE's frame rate is all you have.

3. You're not playing 4k/60 in every game, you're yet another bull shitting Hermit claiming numbers they simply don't get across the board.

4. PC is not the greatest by a long shot.

5. Consoles do a have a bragging right, they dictate what PC can do and that ......pisses Hermits right off ;)

McDonalds food is exclusive and enjoyed by millions.

Must be the best.

If I have to give you an example as to why consoles dictate what PC's can do you're an idiot.

Very telling response, and a dumb question to ask on a video game forum. This thread is bringing out all sorts of tropes that people have been using since the 2000s.

There's a good reason basically every video game on consoles eventually makes its way to PC in some form or another.

Sorry sweet heart you play at 30FPS not because its good its because you have no choice.

The nail in the coffin is the fact that games are offering a 60FPS mode now on consoles. So your not fooling anyone.

@Pedro: No lies. The quality is objectively better on PC and PC gamers have had higher standards for years.

@scatteh316: Come talk to me when consoles can deliver quality like PC. Then we can actually have a worthwhile discussion.
