Guys I was just curious out there if any of you think that the "greatness" and "superiority" of PC gaming has been greatly inflated by its fanboys? I play both PC and console games and while I find games on both platforms to be fun, I just dont see this vast superiority that the hardcore PC gamers do. I know that my lack of having a true gaming rig has something to do with my opinion, but with games like ME2, BFBC2, Black Ops, MW 2, Crysis 2, DAO/DA2, Brink, FNV and others I simply dont see the advantage to playing them on PC over console. Your thoughts?

Yes, there are fantastic games here there and everywhere. I don't see some sort of vast gulf between the best console games and the best PC games.

You listed a bunch of consolized trash and wonder why you don't see the "PC gaming superiority" very well? But to be honest, I'm very surprised you don't see how playing Dragon Age Origins and Bad Company 2 is far superior on the PC. Infact, its so obvious that I highly doubt you touched those games on PC.

Yes PC gaming is better and yes I wish I didn't waste my money on 360/Wii so I could afford one.

PC gamers are just more vocal than your average console gamer.

For first-person shooters, strategy games, certain kinds of action games - I'd take the mouse and keyboard.

For racing games and fighting games, I want a controller.

This is coming from a PC gamer, by the way.

Agreed. However there are other factors you must take into consideration. Like mods. I would consider Oblivion one of the worst games I ever played without its modding community to be honest. Vannilla Oblivion was SO **** BORING FOR ME but the mods made it one of the greatest titles I ever bought.

Mods make a huge difference to an enjoyment of a game. A game with a modding community can extend its lifespam indefinately and basically be transfromed into many other WHOLE GAMES, not just mods of that game.

ahahah oh really? What online games have you been playing? I have seen the exact opposite. PC gaming online doesn't die, while on consoles the crowd moves from game to game and games that were popular before get tossed aside for their sequels or newer titles.

You do realize that PC gaming communites usually last a lot longer than a community on a console right?

Look at: Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, ect.

Years old games that still have plenty of people playing them.

It deffinitley has it's downsides and may not be suitable for everyone but hey - if you're a fanboy it's kinda expected you won't be able to see the bad sides too.

Mods make a huge difference to an enjoyment of a game. A game with a modding community can extend its lifespam indefinately and basically be transfromed into many other WHOLE GAMES, not just mods of that game.

Games with extensive modding communities like Oblivion are quite rare, actually. For example, FEAR had an SDK, but how many mods were actually made with it? I can only count less than a dozen on its ModDB page.

Mods are an advantage - depending on the game. Something like Oblivion begs for tweaks, and even the less technically versed can create small mods quite easily. But, for games like Half-Life and so many other first person shooters, the amount of expertise required to create good mods is so high that very few high quality mods actually get released for public consumption.

Black Mesa, anyone?

I wouldn't call mods an absolute trump card in PC gaming - it's more of an extra. I am a PC gamer only because I prefer the mouse and keyboard.

Somewhat yes, PC gaming is'nt a flawless gem of perfect extacy, nothing is.

In the context of SW where we compare gfx between "HD" consoles there's nothing exaggerated about it's superiority.

You...don't see the advantage of playing F:NV on PC over consoles, despite Bethesda games being perfect examples of games that are meant to be played on PC thanks to this?

Unlike consolites most PC gamers at least try to inform themselves of what they're saying BEFORE they say it.

Too many times I've heard the likes of "Crysis could be done on consoles", "can PC do HD", "if you take away MMOs and DD platforms PC is DEAD" and other such crap. Never seen the other way around happen tho.

I agree many console users are also quite annoying. There are annoying people on both sides of the aisle. That fact can't be denied.

i like gaming on my ps3 and 360 but i wanna save up now to get a good gaming laptop to play games that i'm missing out on, i don't care which is better or superior. I just play to have fun and be engaged. Heck there was a time where i barely touched my consoles because i was absorbed in tetris on my phone. People need to realize at the end of the day, pc gamers and console gamers are doing the same thing, your just chilling gaming.

Beyond the added performance (in all cases) and graphics (in the majority of cases), things like mod support are huge for games and can often change everything about it (a la Oblivion).

Well basically every single multi plat is better on pc. More exclusives. Mods. More options. Better graphics. It basically is better, if the consoles didn't have exclusives, there would be pretty much no point to owning one.

Tastes are opinions. Technical limitations are not. Wording something the wrong way differs from saying something completely cluelessly. Like what happened in this very page, as far as I can tell.

I always find it funny that one person always seems to claim his "side" has the moral high-ground,like they never say anything dumb or offensive about another platform.

This is SW,like you said **** gets flung from everyside every day here.

Yeah but his point is that there are people who don't like a console game soley for the reason that it's a console game. Just because something is inferior, technically speaking, doesn't make it bad.

Console fans and PC fans can be elitist. It isn't something endemic to the fans of a singular platform.

As for your second point, no.

Honestly, I fear that we may be forced to see games such as STALKER, GMod, Mount&Blade, Minecraft, and all those other games you wouldn't expect to be on a console to be on a console.

If PC had Final Fantasy, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Mortal Kombat, and all those other AAA console games, would we be asking these questions?

The quesiton isn't: Who's fanboys are most annoying?

Or did I miss something in the original post?

The question is: is the PC a superior gmaing platform?

The answer is, emphatically, yes.

I don't know how you can come up with any other answer, except that your console fanboy.

Let me point out, that the previous statement DOES NOT mean that consoles aren't good gmaing platforms. They are. They have a lot to offer. But the better experience, the most options, the larger library of highly rated games, the best genre representation, it ALL goes to the PC.

I have a Kia sportage. I like this car. I think it's agreat car for what I need it to do. But I'm not going to sit here and tell you that my Kia Sportage is better than a fully loaded Mercedes.

But just because there are betetr cars out there, doesn't mean that my Kia sucks.

I think Consolites just have to get that through their head.

One of my friends drives a Grand Cherokee with a 5.7L V8. It's powerful. It has a soft, comfortable ride. The interior is well-appointed, and has all sorts of options. He absolutely loves it. However, I would consider my Mustang to be a superior car, because I enjoy driving it far more than I would his Jeep, despite having a far more basic interior and sound system. There's no single definition of superiority.

I wouldn't say 100%, but there is definitely some major inflation going on (and not talk about the 1970's type of inflation). There are some genres that suit the pc just fine, like rts and mmos, but touting superior hardware simply can't make up for the gaming library that consoles provide.

Something is wrong with the PC for devs to jump over and make games for the consoles too. How about all the PC fanboys fix this problem, so we all can drop consoles altogether? That's what's keeping the PC held back, right?

I would agree that PC gaming is generally superior to console gaming. Even though I don't own a gaming PC anymore, my experience with the platform is one I cherish, and I wouldn't mind gaming on PC again down the road. At the same time, I'm more than satisfied with just a 360. Those who think the gap between the two is huge is fooling themselves. While the PC may have more capabilities, I much prefer the laid back sessions I have with my one console, as it covers more preferable genres, and I don't have to worry about possible hardware and software discrepancies that may come along with PC gaming. But PC gaming is and always will be great. I just wish PC GAMERS in general would piss off with their absurd sense of entitlement.

You forogot to mention that if you only got the PC you're missing A LOT of excellent games. Which platform has the better games is debatable and you certainly can't say the PC is best for all sorts of games.

but with games like ME2, BFBC2, Black Ops, MW 2, Crysis 2, DAO/DA2, Brink, FNV and others I simply dont see the advantage to playing them on PC over console. Your thoughts?

Because apart from DA:O all those are ports. Console games ported over onto PC.

I ask again, if PC had Red Dead Redemption, Final Fantasy, and all those other highly recieved console games that I cannot be bothered to name, would we be asking this question?

True. But the point is, if you only own one console (pick your fave here), you're missing out on even more games, and have inferior versions of multiplats. However, if the exclusives on that one console are the best thing in the world for you, then so be it.
