Are you kidding me? 9500GT? Dual core 3.0Ghz? No blu-ray drive? No OS? Crappy PSU included with the case? This barely even matches the 360...

And especially with "gaming" PC's that fall under $700, they often need to be updated in some way every 3 years. Where my PS3 doesn't need to be updated for like 6 years

The only reason you'd be upgrading every 3 years is if you're trying to pump the most out of the latest and greatest. You don't HAVE TO pump the most out of Crysis to whoop consoles. My 3 year old rig is running strong, and I don't see anything on the horizon that will change that.

[QUOTE="TheOldOlder"]I cant Play MGS4, Gran Turismo, Cross Edge, Killzone, warhawk, Valkyria Chronicles etc on that PCpsychobrew
Why would you want to?

Due to the fact, that MGS4, Killzone 2, Warhawk are great games. The others I haven't played, but GT is a great series, Valkyria Chronicles scored very well, and Cross Edge is a niche title (so ignore that, however I will be piking it up).

Cross Edge ain't even out yet. Not sure why people use non-out games in comparison threads. :|

I know it isn't out, I said it's also a niche title, and that it should be ignored from the list.

Either way, PS3 still has good exclusives, but using them in this type of thread is pointless.

Plus in terms of library, PC dominates pretty much anything (however taste in exclusives is subjective).

Why would you want to?

because I have an exquisite taste for videogames

Taste is subjective, so labelling yours as exquisite, doesn't really work in this case. Other people may find your choice of exclusives somewhat lacking, and see their taste as exquisite.

Wow, hardheaded much? Fact is, taste is subjective, therefore making nobody's taste, necessarily better, than anybody elses. It's not quantifiable.

You can believe it though, if you like. ;)

NOT when you have to UPGRADE when a new game comes out. 8)

BoloTheGreat

Way to exaggerate. I have a 8800gt for 16months and i can run every game at max settings at 1680x1050 ( except crysis where i compromise at high instead very high)

Really? EVERY game at max settings?, I love the PC but that is an exaggeration somewhat. GRID, CoH; OF, STALKER; Clear Sky, World in Conflict and Empire total war will not run at an acceptable framerate on an 8800GT, that's why I am replacing mine.

No but at 720p it will mate and very easily.

The general point of this is to show how such a pc compares to a ps3. You dont need to max a game to enjoy them. Console gamers dont complain when they're consoles are running such games at low or medium settings.

Except the PS3 is more futureproof than this PC.

And you forgot the disc drive and cooling, in addition to what other users are saying.

adastos

please define future-proof as I hope you're not gonna start with the usual, "you're gonna need to upgrade in 6 months"

I think he means something along the lines of, if it does go the 10 years, it will play the new games 10 years from now while if you bought a PC it will be outdated by that time and while the console graphics get better with time PC is still hindered. For example try playing todays games with a geforce 2 series and windows 2000(Is windows 2000 even supported in games anymore?)

OK, the ps3 can have this small little victory lol, it may well be playing games just being released for it by that time but I'm certainly not the type of gamer that will content with the standard of game by that time.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="Dilrod"] I thought about excluding the monitor, but most people have a tv already.. what if this is a persons first pc? Also I edited as the tc forgot the one thing that compares it to a ps3.... a blu-ray drive. Even the cheapest one is $85 and its a piece of crap.Dilrod
Then that person can just as easily use this hypothetical TV that you assume people have in the first place. It is an unfair burden to say; Most people have a TV, most people don't have a monitor. I'd like to see your prove that, which you can't. Even accepting that, you can just use the bloody television in the first place. If it is a moderately new TV, it has an S-Video slot. The vast majority of cards come with s-video adaptors nowadays. If not, just buy a 20 dollar gypsy convertor. Besides, you don't need a BLU-RAY drive when most media on the PC is streamed anyway at higher resolutions.

And again, besides the hardcore techies..very few people use their tv as their pc monitor, but everyone uses their tv as for their consoles. The odds of a brand new computer owner using a tv over buying a monitor is slim. Face the facts.

You're missing the point...you CAN use the TV with the PC, it's that simple. You plug it in just like a monitor, it's no more or less complicated than using a monitor and you're basically trying to argue that most people won't think to do that

Drivers? Sounds like it is most likely your problem rather than the game, i used to have the same problem with HL:DM of all things, just had to un-install and re-install all my source games, was a hell of a hassle but some errors had bulidt up in the shared files :? So you should try first upgrading you drivers, so a maleware check and for gods sake do all the usual necessary maintenance (Registry, spyware etc) !!

I sold my old 40gb ps3 for $350. On Amazon, I bought a 360 arcade, 20gb hdd, and 13 months of xbox live for $275, including shipping. I have a laptop, so I don't need a pc. But its good to know that if I get a new one, I can put it together myself and save some $.

you are assuming that everyone will be able to re use parts for this. that is not part of the original and a PS3 comes fully equipped - you are fudging on the original claim. How about Mac user that is tired of it all and desires a PC? THEY can't re use a darn thing so they have NOTHING. you can't make assumptions.

Concider it a fine for choosing MAC in the first place. Besides, if they can afford a Mac, they can afford the extra $80 - $100 to get the rest of the parts they need.

that is an assumption again..someone could have afforded a Mac at one time and can not afford one any longer or had one as a gift and needs a new computer and would rather have a PC because they are better. does NOT have anything to do with the no extra expense for the PC over a PS3 anyway if you start adding extra costs then you defeat the idea of the original concept of a PC being less expensive. It simply does not seem to be the case.

After mail in rebates, total price is $295 for a computer with more power than any console. Even by upgrading the graphics card to play Crysis at high resolutions and details, it's still cheaper than a PS3. How are consoles still selling?

Network card/Wifi

Bluray/DVD

Controller/KB&M

At 1280x720p/800p, my ASUS G1SN laptop (with Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz (800FSB), 4GB RAM (dual channel PC5300), Geforce 9500M GS 512MB VRAM) can easily keep up with console targeted/ported games e.g. UT3, GearsOFWar, Fallout3, MassEffect, H.A.W.K, Mirror's Edge, Grid Race Driver, FarCry2, The Last Remnant (UE3), Left 4 Dead, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, Assassins Creed. It's able to play Crysis Warhead at 1280x720p/800p, mainstream settings with gamer setting for textures, physics. PS; My laptop is fitted blu-ray-rom/dvd-burner drive.

As an 8 ROPs + unified shader equipped GPU, Geforce 8600 GT/9500's performance should be around 8 ROPs + unified shader equipped ATI Xenos.

Note that, Xbox 360'sPPE X3 shares 1.6Ghz L2 cache, total instruction issue per cycle rate of 6. IntelCore 2 Duo's total instruction issue per cycle rate is 8 and it's L2 cache is clocked at core speed. Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz (800FSB) is capable software render Quake 3 at normal settings, 640x480pand 32FPS (via Swiftshader+MESAWin 6.0OpenGL bridge).

As a hermit I really don't see the point of trying to compare Consoles to the cheapest PCs possible... I see it as the extra we pay to build the PC is more than made up for with cheaper games, Indi Games, and mods redbaron3
This, paying atleast $10-$20 less per game will add up very quickly and eliminate any gaps between the cost of a gaming/decent PC and that of a 360/PS3.

(Gamespot won't take the link)

After mail in rebates, total price is $295 for a computer with more power than any console. Even by upgrading the graphics card to play Crysis at high resolutions and details, it's still cheaper than a PS3. How are consoles still selling?

-Reggaeton-

You forgot these:

Cables

Network card/Wifi

Bluray/DVD

Controller/KB&M

+Windows operating system. Yeah linux is free but crap for gaming.

/Thread fail

Cables?????????? Network cards... wow, just wow....

A PC doesn't need to be cheaper than a console to justify it's existence, because the pc is inherently superior. While this build is a bit of a strech, a full brand new top of the line PC that you build yourself on newegg can cost as little as $800-1000, and if you really want to go all out, it can get up to $2000. Still, is that too much to ask for an infinitely superior system? And if you resuse monitor, kb+m, etc from an older PC, the cost goes down even further. It doesn't take much money to pay for a top of the line gaming PC, is the point. If you are at all employed and like gaming, and know how to use a screwdriver, you will be fine.

I doubt that would play games much better than Ps3/360, although technically it might be more powerful, the amount of optimization on consoles and the fact nearly all hardware is dedicated to running the game, unlike PC where it still has to run the OS in the background.

The reality is that the OS in the backround is a cheap excuse for lazy developers that dont optimise their games. Look at Burnout Paradise the game runs fine on a 9500GS...

That list of parts won't be playing any next gen games at all, the video card isnt even meant for gaming.

It will out-perform the Wii, though...

PS3 comes with a controller and connects to your TV for $399.00, your link does not show a flat screen monitor or a keyboard and mouse so add another 3 to $400.00 dollars at least.

Besides the obvious fact the PC's come with the most bug and virus ridden operating system on the planet.

LOL. Add the price of a big screen HDTV to your PS3 then. The OS is fine if you don't do anything you shouldn't be doing anyway.

If you pirate all your games on PC, sure it's cheaper than PS3.

Frankly I think putting the price of a console and PC up against each other shows ignorance, the PS3 isn't even sold at a profit.

We pay more because we get more, it's really that simple.

dream431ca

it's also a lot cheaper if you buy a lot of games. PC Games are usually about 20$ cheaper than the console versions and are actually better all around. That 20$ a game adds up very, very quickly. Buy 20 games in a generation and you save 400$ and also get better versions of the games.

Call me lazy, but I really don't want to fiddle around with all those parts just to build a gaming PC. I just stick with the good ole consoles:)clubsammich91
Lazy. And a wii only owner.
