After mail in rebates, total price is $295 for a computer with more power than any console. Even by upgrading the graphics card to play Crysis at high resolutions and details, it's still cheaper than a PS3. How are consoles still selling?

People don't not buy PCs for high price, they don't buy it for 2 reasons: 1. PC is basically the most inconvenient thing to play games on. You'll need to do weeks of research to understand it in order to enjoy it in the comforts of their homes. Besides, PCs like that suffer in features. I bet it can't play bluray and has a small HD. Its not worth it. 2. Many agree that the exclusives on the PS3 and 360 murder the PC exclusives. If you like RTS after RTS then PC is your platform if not, Uncharted and Halo are on consoles

Call me lazy, but I really don't want to fiddle around with all those parts just to build a gaming PC. I just stick with the good ole consoles:)clubsammich91
Same, I cocked up trying to add some mods to Civ 3 lol

um ,, in the long run youll have to upgrade well in the not so long run that is,

you do not have a bluray player ,, dont have a cell processesor,

no 4 players can play on it,

price of a gaming pc is 1000 plus dollars .

this does not include, you having to assemble it , , the frustration

the time and effort what if you break somthing , ,

and the os 99 dollars for the cheapest 299 or more for the best most recent one vista

and when you go into walmart theres not many games so calling a pc a gaming machine without widely available games ,,

have fun wasting your gas to drive all over just to find any great games not found on console,

believe me i tried finding the greats such as duke nukem ,, ,

i still cant find one , ,

even new games like nfs are hard to find

um ,, in the long run youll have to upgrade well in the not so long run that is,

Ridiculous.

you do not have a bluray player ,,

I have no need for a Blue Ray player. How is that a negative?

dont have a cell processesor,

Ohhhh, teh power of teh Cell!! Give me a break.

no 4 players can play on it,

Casual feature. Not needed.

price of a gaming pc is 1000 plus dollars .

You can get one for much cheaper. In fact, that's what this thread is about.

It's a hobby. It's passion. It's nothing near frustration.

the time and effort what if you break somthing , ,

What if? Good time to upgrade, but most people don't break their hardware. What happens if you break your PS360?

and the os 99 dollars for the cheapest 299 or more for the best most recent one vista

As already explained over and over again in this thread, a legal copy of Vista 64 can be had for less than $100. What would make you think you need a $200 (why inflate the price?) copy of business edition?

and when you go into walmart theres not many games so calling a pc a gaming machine without widely available games ,,

LOL. Walmart. Wow.

have fun wasting your gas to drive all over just to find any great games not found on console,

There's something called a telephone you can use, and there's also online ordering where you don't even need to leave your house.

Psychobrew, I hope you don't mind me expanding on some of the already good counter points you have made :D

um ,, in the long run youll have to upgrade well in the not so long run that is,

Ridiculous. How many times have we to go through this? You do NOT need to upgrade like you consolites say. My pc is over 2 years old and it still maxes every game out at 720p. It will still be playing all games being released for the next 3 and considering the slower rate at which game requirements are increasing, probably 4. That is easily as long as a console life-cycle and during that period, it will continue playing games at much better settings than your consoles lol.

you do not have a bluray player ,,

I have no need for a Blue Ray player. How is that a negative? Infact, you can easily include a blu-ray player in your build. Anything the ps3 can do, the pc can do aswell.

dont have a cell processesor,

Ohhhh, teh power of teh Cell!! Give me a break. There is a reason the cell processor is not in PCs lol. The Cell in your PS3 is also a stripped down version. It's no powerhouse. You're yet another cow taken in by overhype. The Cell is ok for console gaming but would struggle with the variety of demands placed upon it by a PC.

no 4 players can play on it,

Casual feature. Not needed. You can have 4 player lol. You can get 4 360 controllers with dongles and have them work with all games for windows games. Not to mention, this is PC gaming we're talking about, I'm sure there are mods out there for many games to have split screen. Thats the beauty of PC gaming, any feature of a console game can be copied by some modder somewhere.

price of a gaming pc is 1000 plus dollars .

You can get one for much cheaper. In fact, that's what this thread is about. There have been countless threads, I repeat countless threads breaking down each component's price. Heck there is even the Crysis pc at $700! Either you know this already and are flame baiting or you are not very good at researching before you post and only serve to make console fanboys look bad

this does not include, you having to assemble it , , the frustration

It's a hobby. It's passion. It's nothing near frustration. My brother explained to me how to do it while we were getting ready for football. Trust me, its easy. It does not take weeks of research. It's not that much different to putting all the right cable together to set up your 360 or ps3 to a surround sound system and good tv and making sure the settings on your dashboard are right. Installing windows is easy too, you just follow the on screen instructions. Putting ram in is simple, you put it in the ram shaped slot, it only goes in one way, you may want to watch a video before putting in your cpu but...thats not hard. The point is, sure its a little more fuss that having a ready packaged console but its still a very user friendly process and for good reason! Why are us PC gamers always going on and on about how easy it is??

the time and effort what if you break somthing , ,

What if? Good time to upgrade, but most people don't break their hardware. What happens if you break your PS360? Take it back...what a silly excuse

and the os 99 dollars for the cheapest 299 or more for the best most recent one vista

As already explained over and over again in this thread, a legal copy of Vista 64 can be had for less than $100. What would make you think you need a $200 (why inflate the price?) copy of business edition? There is also windows 7, its 64 bit and supports almost as much as vista does. When you purchase a new hard disk you can get an oem version which is a fraction of the cost and there are more discounts to be had if you're a student :D

and when you go into walmart theres not many games so calling a pc a gaming machine without widely available games ,,

LOL. Walmart. Wow. Yep, there is no doubt that pc gaming is moving more towards digital distribution which further serves to argue against the need for a blu-ray drive.

have fun wasting your gas to drive all over just to find any great games not found on console,

There's something called a telephone you can use, and there's also online ordering where you don't even need to leave your house. You have to travel less as a pc gamer...get this, I can purchase games and download them online as many times as I like.

believe me i tried finding the greats such as duke nukem ,, ,i still cant find one , ,

How long ago was this?? Only on PC can you get many many many great ****cs for free. gametap has just announced you can download for free, Stalker SoC! There are tons of free games completely legit on pc. There is no such service on consoles and better yet, there is tons and tons of content in the form of downloadable content, modes, total conversions all for free!!

I sold my old 40gb ps3 for $350. On Amazon, I bought a 360 arcade, 20gb hdd, and 13 months of xbox live for $275, including shipping. I have a laptop, so I don't need a pc. But its good to know that if I get a new one, I can put it together myself and save some $.

then when you pay for xbox live it's gonna be 320$

Way to make me sign in. If you actually read my post, you will see that 13 months of xbox live is included in the $275. Ain't Amazon great? I hate signing in here.....

Also, the PC will eventually be able to play all 360 and PS3 games. Every single console game ever made was a timed exclusive. I'm sure only a few of you will know what I mean though :D

In 13 months your Xbox is going to be $320. 13 months after that, $365 then $410 then $455 then $500. Where does the madness stop? Just think about the PC upgrades you could have done for the price of Xbox Live.

See the image down there? Replace "MAC" with "console"

With a console, you're limited in bascially everything. Your console is the same as the next person's console and the next (give or take color, hd, etc.)

Yes. This makes it easy to develop on and everyone gets the same experience. But imo it's kinda boring. If your console fails (like my xbox 360 with a single red ring), you can't fix it. Sure there are tricks but mostly temporary. Sooner or later, you have to send it into MS to get it fixed. You can't order parts online and replace it because you don't know how a 360 works. Hell, probably opening it will void your warranty. Now what? You wait 2-3 weeks to get it back.

With a PC that you yourself built, you know exactly what parts are in there. If something fails, you can order parts online and fix it. Simple, easy, done. Building a PC is not hard. There are literally millions of tutorials online on how to assemble a PC for less than 1000 dollars. Hell, selecting parts from newegg will garner you a monster gaming PC for about 600 dollars. (OS, mouse/keyboard, speakers aren't included)

To me, that PC seems like a pretty sweet deal. I know there is a lot of PC elitism saying that you NEED to have the latest and greatest hardware and running games at anything below 1600x900 is unacceptable, but the 9500GT is actually a pretty decent card. I had one for a while, and I got 35+ FPS in COD 4 at 720p.

But going back to the main argument, to me this seems like more of a reason to not get a 360 rather than not get a PS3.

When we compare the PS3 to this PC, we're not doing an apples to apples comparison, like someone said a few posts back. The PS3 includes wireless internet, includes its OS, and has the capability to do some stuff that PC cannot, not to mention having Blu-Ra. It's not just a game machine, its a mix of everything. But more importantly, its exclusives and other big games tend to be its own. MGS4, Uncharted, Motorstorm, Killzone 2, Resistance, inFAMOUS, etc. will never make it to the PC.

On the 360 side, the amount of games the two consoles share is massive. Even Gears of War, the original killer app for Xbox, is on PC as well, and I'm sure that Halo 3 and GOW 2 will make it over eventually. So, saying you spend a little more on the PC, maybe put in a 9800GT, you could run the crap out of those PC/360 games, and keep the PS3 for its own exclusives, which to me is like having the best of both worlds.

Can it play MGS4, Killzone 2, Uncharted, or better said the Sony exclusives? No right, anyways I will get a gaming rig because of Star Craft 2 and Diablo and luckily I will likely to play some games that are on the 360/PC.

It makes more sense to go PC and Wii. You can easily find a similar style of PS3 game on the PC even if it's not the same exact title. The Wii, however, is hard to reproduce.

FPS and RPG are much better on the PC. I'd simply rather buy the type of games that are popular on consoles for the PC instead. The Wii just gives you an entirely different experience. Sure, there are some games on the PS3 that you can't get (yet) on the PC, but I can find more than enough games on the PC to scratch any itch caused by any exclusive PS3 game. It simply doesn't make any sense to buy a console to play a few exclusive games in genres that are so much better on the PC.

[QUOTE="JimCarreyForYou"] It makes more sense to get a PC and a PS3, since most 360 games goes to PC.

Yes, The 360 gets a lot of PC games and PS3 games. It's probably more logical to just own a 360 instead of spending all that money on two systems. :)

It simply doesn't make any sense to buy a console to play a few exclusive games in genres that are so much better on the PC.psychobrew
Ehh Wii games will be available ( or already are dunno ) on the PC, I rather FPS games on the PS3. And exclusive wise apart from Diablo and the RTS I don't see any game better on PC.

Nah, the control sucks for me at least being with a PS control since the PS. And you can play any 360 game on the PC and even in a better version with mods and all.

Sure it's possible, but to build a good one, you'd have to have an amazing knowledge of hardware, plus you'd have an exhaustive search on your hands trying to find those parts cheap enough. So, for all appearances, the PS3 is still cheaper.

789shadow

You do not need amazing knowledge of hardware. All you need is the motherboard manual and you are set. No skill needed. I love how console gamers always try to over exaggerate how hard it is to build a PC. As for searching for cheap PC part being hard......:lol: Thanks for at least giving me a good laugh. It is pretty easy finding cheap PC part.

I had a bunch of games for PC a few years ago, including the apparently now rare and somewhat expensive FF8 PC version. I got a new laptop to replace my PC when it died on me. None of them run very well, some of them not at all. Yeah that is SO AWESOME. I just can't be bothered with it, I'm too easily frustrated.

Way to make me sign in. If you actually read my post, you will see that 13 months of xbox live is included in the $275. Ain't Amazon great? I hate signing in here.....

Can you link me to it, i'm very curious... since I haven't found the deal.

Deal? What deal? $200 for an Arcade with free shipping. $40 for 13 months of xbox live with free shipping. $32 for a used 20gb hd, 3.99 for shipping. Oh God, no! It was roughly $276. Sorry.

In 13 months your Xbox is going to be $320. 13 months after that, $365 then $410 then $455 then $500. Where does the madness stop? Just think about the PC upgrades you could have done for the price of Xbox Live.

I'm sorry, but I don't care enough to learn about computer parts, or upgrade my pc. I just use it for internet and school/work. I play M2TW but that's about it. I'll spend the extra 39.99 a year so I can play with my friends online.

Why do you guys keep responding? I don't like signing in here. It's an even bigger waste of time than actual video games....

Yeah, agreed. I've built all my computers. I've sure he forgot to include the price of the monitor, keyboard, mouse and several other need components. lol!! No one cares really. The PC will always cost more then a game console, no matter how you calculate it. The video cards are $250 - $300 alone. I'll still with a $200 game console, thanks anyways. lol!!

I can run most of my XBox games on my XBox 360, and I can run almost all of my PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3. I'll just stick with the game consoles. PC gaming is too much of a hassle and it's never 100% B/C. There are only 2-3 games exclusively on PC that I want to play. Meantime there are literally 100's of games on the Wii, PS3 and XBox 360 I want to play. Main reason why I don't play PC games much.

Are you serious? Are you too helpless to go to amazon.com and look for some kind of deal like this? Wow.... I literally just looked at the email that told me the total price: 276.93 http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Arcade-Console-Bonus-Game/dp/B001FPBZBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1242727857&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B6ML32/ref=ox_ya_oh_product (the seller that I bought from is not on that list for some reason, offpricespc) and now I can't seem to find the $39.96 xbox live, when I click on the item on my orders on my account, it goes to the 49.99 version, even though on my order it is 39.96. Maybe because I bought an xbox? Free shipping still, so add $10 to my total if you don't want to wait for a promotional price drop. Your helplessness astounds me. You really couldn't do this yourself? You must be no older than 12. I would show you my email receipt if it didn't have my info on it. Frankly, I don't care if you believe me or not. Video games are just time wasters. And this stupidity, I don't even know what to call it. Even video games are a better way to spend time. I feel bad now.

Newegg put it all together. No research involved. Just the pure bliss of system building.

sorry, but i don't consider building a system to be bliss. its all opinions. some folks enjoy that kind of thing, some don't.

You just don't know how to run the games. Use patches, compatibility mode, or virtual PC. Virtual PC gives you pretty much 100% compatibilty for ALL past Windows games. PC has better BC. That's an undeniable fact. Especially since PS3 removed PS2 BC.

More terrible posting. Okay, let's say a PC costs 300$-400$ for a system that's 3x more powerful than the console. You'll get all of that back if you buy 10-20 games in a generation. PC games are 20$-30$ cheaper.

The problem is you have to go out and find all thi Virtual PC software and install it, configure it and hope it works with your games. At least with game console, I already know if it's going to work or not, because it's either 100% compatible or I can few a detailed list. PC's B/C should be 100% compatible as soon as I buy the system. Unfortunately it isn't and you have to do research and everything else to try and get it that way. Boooooooo!!!

None, because there were NO XBOX games back in 1995. LOL!! I have a ton of PC games that came out from 1996-2003 because I used to review games. So I got a lot of FREE PC games that I played back then, plus I bought some of my own. Some of them I never got to play due to time constraints. Many of them won't play on Windows XP or Vista.

This is plain wrong. As already explained, if you include the price of a monitor for the PC, you must include the price of a TV for a console. Monitors are much cheaper than TVs.

A $200 Xbox 360 lacks a hard drive. Now you have to spend an additional $150 if you want map packs and other downloads (which you have to pay for).

Great video cards can be had for less than $200 these days.

Let's not forget how much cheaper and more powerful PC games are, and then there are the free mods (some of which are basically an entirely new game), the free map packs and other downloads, the free online (which blows everything console out of the water), the better graphics, the better controls....this list could go on and on.

I have a ton of PC games that came out from 1996-2003 because I used to review games. So I got a lot of FREE PC games that I played back then, plus I bought some of my own. Some of them I never got to play due to time constraints. Many of them won't play on Windows XP or Vista. blackace

Further proof the reviewing industry is biased.

you are assuming that everyone will be able to re use parts for this. that is not part of the original and a PS3 comes fully equipped - you are fudging on the original claim. How about Mac user that is tired of it all and desires a PC? THEY can't re use a darn thing so they have NOTHING. you can't make assumptions.

Concider it a fine for choosing MAC in the first place. Besides, if they can afford a Mac, they can afford the extra $80 - $100 to get the rest of the parts they need.

what someone had at one time does not mean they can or want to afford extra now. And HOW does that change the matter of adding extra cost to the original item. you are trying to add to the original claim of lower price for a new rig again. geez a lou

The extra items are a minor expense. And if you do happen to go over the price of a PS3, you will quickly make it up through cheaper games and free download content.

that was not part of your original topic. you are trying to change it again and we just aren't agreeing. It either is cheaper or it is a little bit more and if it is a little bit more it is not cheaper and trying to make up the price difference after the fact won't fly either. You have not shown that this is possible. You can get get some free and very inexpensive game on PSN and all your patches and updates are free on the Playstation network. So if anything the download content on PS3 will save you some money.

[QUOTE="psychobrew"][QUOTE="iowastate"] what someone had at one time does not mean they can or want to afford extra now. And HOW does that change the matter of adding extra cost to the original item. you are trying to add to the original claim of lower price for a new rig again. geez a louiowastate

Wow. Map packs are free on the Playstation network? What fantasy world do you live in....How does the Playstation network that charges you for skins save you money? And yes, it is cheaper to own a PC. Nothing has changed.

well i just downloaded some maps for free and i update my games at no charge regularly. How often have you used PSN? If you used it regularly: you would know that updates and maps either have a small charge or are free downloads. yeah nothing has changed you still have not made your original point. you are continually prevaricating and trying to avoid the idea that the we will not accept additional charges afterwards as part of the less expensive concept. it is that manner of buying that will "nickel and dime" you to death. a little here and a little there. none of it individually adds up to a whole lot but by the time you are finished it amounts to quite a bit. I will admit that making a PC is cheaper than buying a Mac but that is all you have shown and everyone already knew that.

Didn't you guys have any hobbies when you were younger (or have any now)? You know, like building an RC car, model airplane, model car, or even tinker toys or legos....It's the same thing. You apreciate what you have so much more when you build it yourself.

-GeordiLaForge-
if new egg put it together for you then you didn't build it. You just asked for X flavour and they gave it to you

Newegg doesn't build pc's...

but one guy said that they do when some other guy said he didnt have to put his console together
