Wow this is a sad thread... PC gamers care way too much.. You don't have to justify anything... ofcourse the marketshare is higher.. .who doesn't have a **** pc and facebook! :D
Last time I checked the majority of PC gamers were women over 25, and the most popular PC game was still solitaire.
So the next time you pass by a girl in your office, thank her for wasting time at work so you can enjoy this moment.
So why are most games developed console first, pc second, again?

Assuming the consoles revenue is evenly split, PC gaming revenue that does not include social/casual games still singlehandedly crushes 2 consoles combined.

Source on that "last time I checked", or else I'll thank you for the very same reason you've stated.

Unfortunately for you, only the gaming does. Sorry.
And to the other guy- it's not hard to find. I know you can do it.

It just doesn't feel right to be mean to you right now when you're being so naive.
So give it a shot, and good luck!

Uh, not really. I'd almost be willing to bet that the majority of pc gamers on this site agree with me. Why is Crysis 2, an original pc game, now a console game? Easy, money.

Sorry, you don't get away with that. You make the claims, you get the burden of proof.
Deal with it.
Okay well when you figure out a way to make me let me know. Otherwise, Google or lose sleep.

Then I suppose that´s the same reason with, unlike before, capcom(a console developer, among so many console devs that are making PC versions of their games, unlike they did in the past) is bringing their most relevant games to the PC?
Because if the PC doesn´t make them money, they why are they doing it?
And apparently Crysis 2 is doing very poorly on the three platforms, and considering it costed way more than the first I wouldn´t be surprised if Crytek ended up making less profit from Crysis 2 than they did from when the franchise was only on the PC.
Crysis and Warhead sold around 5 millions on one platform,I´ll be closely watching how Crysis 2 will do on three now,and if it fails to best the first games, then I´l be waiting to see what´s the next excuse from Crytek.
Take out COD and Halo and consoles are/would be done.take out WoW and Farmville and the PC is done

Why do 99% of people who look at that chart overlook the fact that PC still wins when you take out casual/social vs each specific console?
Not really a glowing example of the brain power around here.
Jankarcop
Probably the same reason 99% of PC gamers overlook the fact that a lot of console gamers own more than one console.

It's not a console game, it's a multiplatform game. Learn your semantics.
Multiplat development is not a one-sided migration. You'd be incredily naive if you thought that. Loads of console games have gone multiplat this gen. One case does not represent the whole world.
edit: Now that I think about it, you're talking about money, and Crysis 2 is an office bomb for Crytek. Nice example you've got there, really shows how well consolization does the developers

Anyways, Jankarcop, I'm guessing it's becaise they didn't look at it.
I am confused. I thought "casual" games don't count. Now, now. I understand that not all people are poo pooing casual games or saying that one thing is dead or that people whoa re saying casual games are bad but touting numbers like these to argue PC supremacy. . . But I want to make this clear. If you argue these statistics, you are arguing in the favor of those casual games such as Farmville or Mafia wars. That they make up a significant portion of the PC market. That MMOs, driven by expensive monthly fees or free2play micro transactions are the big boon of PC gaming as opposed to more "core' titles. Likewise, we should then take away things like Kinect and Wii are also acceptable. With this, I take away that part of the PC market, a large part, is casual games, MMOs, and social networking. Around 32% versus boxes and downloads which account for only. . 19%. I don't say any of this to put down PC sales, rather to decide once and for all whether or not we can accept "casual" gaming legitimate. AncientDozer

I. . don't get it. That's what I said. More elaborately, mind you.I was agreeing with you :P Just wanted to reiterate to every "if you take X away PC is finished!" the meaninglessness of those arguments.
This chart again?!?!?
Nevermind, oldish thread.
I really don't see the point in bragging about this one as too much of it pertains to people and activities well beyond the scope of this site and traditional gaming.
MMO's fine.
Casual Portals and Social Networking games, without which the PC doesn't outsell consoles; that's a little iffy to me.
Yes, the Wii and Kinect has its share of mass-demographic targeted games. There's just something odd about claiming ownage based on the number of people who visit the Publisher's Clearing House Games website, which is one of the largest of those casual portals, along with Club Pogo, which is a little more respectable, but still, when milking people for vanity items for their avatars or pushing advertisements is THE principle source of revenue, all this ownage rings a little hollow.
When people buy Wii "shovelware," they are still making a conscious decision to buy a video game and require hardware they bought for the purpose of playing a video game. They're not receiving an e-vite from a friend to play a free (upfront anyways) "game" that requires no game hardware to play, only an office PC, where they're more interested in the social experience rather than the game itself; or in winning a sweepstakes or tokens or whatever other fake currency that allows them to enter more sweepstakes and buy more non-gaming vanity items.
I won't go so far as to say these aren't "real" games, but I'll also say I've played some games on casual portals that are better described as interactive advertisements.
All this can be picked apart, but taken as a whole I don't see the ownage here, its too far out of the normal gaming experience for me. I see the relationship between me sitting in front of my desk playing Company of Heroes and the little old lady playing a M&M sponsored Boggle variant for tokens, but I also see more than a few differences in those two activities. Its a bullet point for a Sytem Wars faction and that's all. PC Sales > Console Sales in US (with a wink, a couple of nods and truckload of *).
I was simply pointing out that if you are talking about "gaming" as defined by actual gamers (like people who frequent this forum), than the PC isnt selling half as much as consoles in that department. im not arguing that the PC as a platform is selling more, but really the point I was making is that this information we are seeing seems more damaging to the PC's image than it is positive.
when console gamers make jabs at the PC for being largely comprised of casual and social gaming (like facebook games), you will have to be unbiased and fess up to the fact that they comprise about 40% of the PC gaming industry.
arbitor365
What you have failed to take into account, is the PC slice is MUCH BIGGER than the console slice. Meaning, it can factor in the casual markets, while still having a suitably large core audience. Digital and boxed sales make up 19% of the PC market, something you would probably poke fun at; given the percentage that is casual. But how big is that 19%, in comparison to a console? That 19% generates more money than any single console platform.
Even what you are trying your very best to paint as a minority in PC gaming; is bigger than 360, or PS3 or Wii. And I haven't even included the 11% of the slice that makes up the MMO market, or taken into account how much of the console slice is casual.
And remember this is just for the US.
Other countries are far more popular with PC gaming, like Europe.
Hakkai007
lol. Looks like you called Europe a country :P
While PC is the largest platform. It is dumb to include social network games and casual game portals. The amount of money they make is from how much money people sink into microtransactions as the games themselves are F2P. They shouldn't be included because of this, not because they are casual but because they aren't traditional games that youcan buy. Even MMOs can be bought in a store.
The real PC market is MMOs, PCdownload, PC retail which makes up 30% which is still more than any single console.

Every time a console gamer argues these numbers, he tries to come up with some kind of different approach to the explanation of why some PC games should not be included. In this thread alone there must be dozens different kind of "but those games shouldn't be counted" for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Why is this?
Does the way a game is paid for influence the fact that a game is in fact a game :? ? Or perhaps it's that some people just can't get out of the idea that not everything happens the way they want to happen?

What about games like LoL or Firefall? Or even Runescape and Maplestory? Are you going to argue that those aren't "core" games?
Wonder how many of the PCs in this pie chart have integrated graphics cards with s*** for video ram?
