Most graphics hard have HDMI inputs which means you can hook it up to a big TV and yeah you can use ANY controller or a fighting stick (I do),

PC is the best for fighting games, better graphics and more gamepad options.

Blazblue, SF4, and now possibly Mortal Kombat making its way to PC could mean a rise in the PC fighting game market, possibly.

Devs just need to make sure to release there games on Steam and not retail only, Capcom only released SF4 on PC retail and didn't use Steam till about 8 months later which was stupid.

Imagine using a laptop on the go and playing some Street Fighter (already possible) or Mortal Kombat with 2 wireless 360 pads, would be sick.

Anyways, what do you guys think on PC for fighting games?

Well since mouse and keyboard is the standard for pretty much all PC gamers to have as a input device, it makes fighting games much less popular. Unless there was a way to get more gamepads to be obtained easier and cheaper then I'd suspect it'd become more popular.

More fighting games is how you get more gamepads obtained. SF4 is still pretty popular on PC btw.

the arcade, lan centers and friends houses are the best places and always will be. nothing is as awesome as playing against somebody right next and just whooping them. that feeling cant be replicated online not only because you arent right next to the person and cant trash talk, but also because fighting games like mvc2, ssf4, cvs2, kof98/2002, and a plethora of other good fighting games need precise inputs (sometimes the input window is 1/60th of a second) and online play just makes these games not fun online because of input lag (on xbl and psn there is a minimum of 3 frame lag in the best of situations, which is unacceptable and even on PC its basically the same since internet speed means nothing, its all proximity). only ggpo can replicate a nearly lagless match (even if you play with people in japan and are in america), however even ggpo has some kinks.

I can't imagine fighting games becoming more popular on any platform, less popular seems more likely.

Ever heard of mame or ggpo? Mame has way more, better fighting games than all 3 systems combined and ggpo's online is better than ANY fighting game's online on 360, wii, or PS3.

Those are the ones that GS reviewed, here you can see a top 50(not all, just a top 50,mind you) of PC figthing games.

Many are a bit old,but there are dozens of PC figthers. Now,for a platform that lacks in this genre,it seems a pretty decent selection.

So? It still plays the games, and plays them better than the ports put on systems. Also, developers release games specifically made to play on mame, so it's not just "piracy".

And most would agree that those "old" fighting games trump their newer counterparts. 3rd Strike>SSF4, Guilty Gear> BlazBlue, and Kof98>kofXII.

The biggest problem with fighters on PC, IMO, is that the keyboard can't handle properly those ridiculous circular moves that most fighters use. Unless they release some fighters were the moves are mostly like the ones in Killer Instinct that were mostly back-foward, foward-foward, foward-back and stuff like that. I remember that Mortal Kombat 4 was playable because of that, most moves didn't involve circular motions.

PC is the best for fighting games???? No SSFIV, no BlazBlue Continuum Shift, no Street Fighter X Tekken, no Soul Calibur. Just no.

Piracy is what holds the pc back when it comes to fighting games.

Over on the German siteDerwesten.deSuper Street Fighter 4's producer, Yoshinori Ono, is quoted as saying that a PC release of the game is possible, but a difficult sell because of the rampant piracy that vanilla Street Fighter 4 experienced on that platform.

Majority of them are really old. And some of them were originally from Console/Arcade games. And i think it shouldn't be counted seeing that the games weren't really released at the start of this Gen.

Not really in Japan a decent amount of PC fighters are always released. Of course they aren't the best, but there are plenty. Also there are the indie ones that are made with Fighter Maker and stuff like that. Some of the ones that guy mentioned got translated by fans, so importing them is a good option.

But that won't make them popular on PC. The day they create a good one with a keyboard in mind, the genre may become popular. Using the controls from other systems will only create in the minds of people the idea that they belong elsewhere and will tend to actually go elsewhere for a fighter.

Those games aren't really good enough since some of them are in Japanese language. Also there are 15 rated console fighting games so Consoles are inherently better rather than PC. They aren't even reviewed so how can you say that they are good enough

Sigh, NerubianWeaver. I stated it above and we jsut had this whole debate on them. Don't know if your trolling or not but here is a copy paste of 6-7 post before.

"Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver. B, Street Fighter 4, Guilty Gear XX, Million Knights Vermillion and Crusis Fatal Fake are what I have on my PC in the fighting genre that has come this generation (since 2006). Those are just the ones I personally know about."

NerubianWeaver

Those games aren't really good enough since some of them are in Japanese language. Also there are 15 rated console fighting games so Consoles are inherently better rather than PC. They aren't even reviewed so how can you say that they are good enough

Wow NerubianWeaver Wow. I think I am starting to understand the misconceptions many members are having when they look to Pc gaming.

And some of them were originally from Console/Arcade games.

NerubianWeaver

That doesn't matter, as the same can be same for the consoles. In fact the only game that I can think of this gen that didn't originate in arcades is Soul Calibur 4 and MAYBE DOA 4. DOA4 is considered a joke in the fighting game scene and SC4 is considered not to be anywhere near as good as SC1&2 (though I myself disagree, that's what general opinion of it is).

And? That does not dismiss that I use them and any other Pc gamer can use them. When did this become a popularity contest? I'm not trying to get into any speculation battle. I am only stating base what I use and enjoy.

jedikevin2

But if only you and me play them, how do you expect a developer to release fighting games on PC? That's why you need popularity first. Making it feel proper to the system is only the first step.

Couple Metly Blood games, sf4, guilty gear XX and crusis Fatal fake are what I have on my PC in the fighting genre that has come this generation (since 2006). Those are just the ones I personally know about.

NerubianWeaver

The games you mention like Melty blood and crusis fatal fake aren't even rated/recognize by Gamespot

Because Gamespot is some authority on fighting games, right?

The Melty Blood franchise is played at SBO (Tougeki) which is literally the most well-known fighting game tournament in the world along with EVO.

Don't forget the game is rapidly gaining popularity in the US, despite it having to be imported, and was even at this years EVO, the biggest American fighting game tournament, when DOA, SC, KOF, and even SF3 were not.

This is true.

Also most probably all japanese PC fighters are not rated by GS because they don't have US releases. GS used to rate imports but it just lasted for a while and don't do it anymore. Most can be considered indie and not very good, but there some good ones out there.

I don't think so. I play fighting games with many of my friends and family and playing online wouldn't be the same experience. In this aspect consoles and handhelds have that whole social gaming thing to their advantage.
