Sony needs to stop trying to reinvetn the wheel, almost everyone will use home like find out its a drag and just use menus. Would you everytime you want to switch the channel on the tv load something similar to home walk around, select the channel and then watch the show or just go to the guide. Sure its cool but its not practical and you really need to get a life if you feel the need to hang around in a virtual sim.Igwababa

First off, Sony almost NEVER tries to reinvent the wheel. Look at sixaxis, rumble, joystick...all of those were ideas taken from other companies. Second, considering the addictiveness of the sims, and to a certain extent, most MMO's, I think i'm gonna say MOST people will use home the way Sony intended. If you've played an MMO, you've probably noticed that alot of people just sit around towns and socialize sometimes. They just want to take it easy while they wait for their group or sell stuff on auction houses and they socialize in the town. Sure they could always try and kill stuff to make money and be "productive" but most will just bum around town, doing stupid dances and /emotions. People WILL hang around home when they're waiting for friends to play a game, or when they're sick of a game, they may hang around after just to socialize.

Finally, if you think hanging around a virtual sim for a while means someone needs to get a life, you've fundamentally misunderstood the appeal of movies, video games, and many tv shows. People want to get caught up in something to forget about their problems in real life, at least for a while. They want to get caught up to feel emotions and excitement they wouldn't feel in real life, at least not on demand. Home is really no different than just another form of escape. It's almost like its own MMO.

Home: you walk around and talk.

Xbox Live: You can play games, talk, message, and off your profile.

So I say no.

DuDisNow

PS3: You can play games and do everything else you mentioned with the arrival of the new update that adds XMB support. In other words...

What you stated about 360+Live = PS3 win.

You honestly think Home doesn't look cool at all? Designing your own place with anything you want. Walking around and seeing if anybody else wants to start a party on Resistance. And Home is going to be awesome for clans! It's just like how Guild Wars has Guild Halls only it will be about 10x better.

ace52387

You Sony fanboys have yet to be able to answer this one very very simple question.

How does HOME makes the online game I'm playing better? How is Resistance online w/HOME better than Resistance online.

Home allows you to have a central meeting place for your friends, cross game invites or w/e. It's mostly trivial if all you really want to do is play resistance online. Then again, so are all the XBL services (please...achievements? really...). The only thing that matters is dedicated servers i guess...

There ain't nothing wrong with passing, but it does adress many of the concerns of PSN (cross game invites, more involved chatting service), and if we all agree that XBL services also does jack for the core online gaming experience, I'm good with that.

Why is every multiplayer game better on 360?

Who`s to blame, devs? I see a lot of excuses... it´s free, so u accept the inferior online support, u paid $600 for a product and your happy to not pay $4 a month to NOT get full use of your $600 product... u fail as a consumer.

Home is a joke, if Sony had done a good job with PSN, then sure, a nice addition. No they are trying to wrap **** in silk and a lot of u are buying it. Sony should put their energy in making the support for games bigger and better.

On LIVE the game u play is home, there u can hang around, chat or play CO-OP, or just waiting on your friends in the lobby. The best multiplayer game on the PS3, RS las vegas was released without a lobby?!?

U pay with bananas, u get monkeys.

You make no sense...Home IS the lobby you're complaining RS doens't have. PSN offers dedicated servers where lobbies and w/e are missing, most of those issues will be addressed by the home update. RFOM and motorstorm have dedicated servers which is something no 360 game has. To me, that's worth more than a lobby, and to most people, it's probably worth as much. Pitting PSN even without home, I'd say the better consumer would still pick the free service with better core gaming functionality.

XBL has grown by 250% since the 360 launched, it currently has 7 million users and estimated to have 10 million by end of June 2008 so I'd say no way.

Playstation Home wont "take down" Xbox Live but it will accomplish exactly what it is designed to do. It will appeal to that casual audience and when developers start supporting it then we will see multiplat games perhaps looking better on ps3 (thats a big maybe though for now.) but Home will DEFINETELY have to have the online support where you can launch into a game through home in order for it to become more popular. I'd say that it will be comparable to Xbox live but it is certainly not going to destroy xbox live. The xbox audience is mainly the hardcore audience and they enjoy the idea of xbox live being used strictly for easy to function online play with friends.

With Ps Home around the corner Xlive is in grave danger if not already dead,Ps Virtual home is probably the most innovative idea in the history of gaming a massive 3D Virtual interactionspace for Play Station users absolutely free of charge(For the basic suscription) will most likely be the last nail in coffin for the "charge for everything XLive" , Its obvious that millions of gamers all over the globe will be attracted by this feature and worse yet (for Ms) many users of their paid online service will probably consider switching sides if not immediately do so without hesitation , beyond the reasonable doubt PShome destabilizes the competition between the 2 online gaming services on favor to the Ps3 , Xbox Live Self-Manufactured downfall approaches ? Bloody Hell!

AgentA-Mi6

Seeing as Xbox Live has many more users and more games I can see how it will instantly die

If you can't afford $80 a year for Xbox Live (that's $6.66 a month, 21 cents a day) then I don't know how you can afford a PS3 ... look at it here ...

PS3 - $1000 with online.

Xbox 360 Premium - $580 + $400 (Live subscription for 4 yrs) = $980.

It is cheaper to buy a 360 Premium and have live for 4 yrs then a PS3 with 'free' online .... plus 360 games are ~$10 cheaper ...

I think anyone interested in Home should just play second life or buy the Sims.

Anyway who wants to play games online on a level playing feild should pick up Live.

With XBL sliver I can't do nothing...because I can't even play a game online without gold. I wonder why everyone thinks home will FORCE them to traverse the virtual world to start a game, you also get a console feature ala Xlive but everyone seems to ignore that and pretend you have to trek 15 miles uphill both ways to play motorstorm. Thats what I call blind fanboyism

If Home does become extremely popular and successful, it could very well make a big impact this generation.

A lot of people mock Home for it's virtual world interface. But that might be just what PSN needs to get a large userbase.

We'll know soon enough.

Yes, but if Home is now going to be where I hang out, it's no longer competing with Xbox Live.  Now it's competing with the brewpub down the street.  And until they invent virtual beer, Home is going to lose.  Every.  Single.  Time.

Its sad that people think Live is some static service that never changes... Did all the cows forget about the huge bi-annual updates? The next one should be rolling around quite soon, too....Also, MS has already commented that they have something big for the 360s second b-day planned (last year it was the movie and TV service)...

In the end the PS3 will be bought for its games, not for HOME. If there are no games for the ps3 then who is gonna pay 500 or 600 dollars just to use home when they can play Second Life for free. Home will not move systems. Its just an added feature. Home will not kill XBL whatsoever. Home looks ok but its not the reason why i bought a ps3.

I don't see why people are complaining....you don't HAVE to walk around and stuff. You can play games without doing all that stuff just as quick and easy as XBL. Its an added feature to PSN and I welcome it if its free. Besides I think it will be pretty fun! It will NOT kill XBL though.

actually, home can do all that you said live can do. but anyway, that isn't to say I agree with the TC.

The fact is, XBL is doing fine, and will be doing fine for years to come I'm sure. but, I do think that the PSN/Home could/will become equal, or even greater than XBL, providing XBL stays the same.

Either way you look at it, both services will continue to grow, and just get better and better. Neither one is going to just stop.

I agree, Orin.

My god, you sony fanboys treat the ps3 as if its your best friend, and that sony has no desire for your money.

Guess what, when i go on live i see no ads, no billboards, no buying a stupid hat. Home is already going to have a whole bunch of clothes, funiture, and stuff you buy. NOt to mention that when you go to certain places you will see billboards. Sony wants your money, microsoft is just more honest. I prefere paying 52 a year and seeing no ads, over walking in a virtual world, buying a virtual hat, and looking at a virtual billboard.

I am pretty sure you have to pay to access certain extra areas.

why would you want to walk around a house in virtual land is beyond me...except for second life...perhaps the cell has corrupted cows

It's a different metaphor for a blog, myspace, live profile, etc...

All these are tools for social interaction, in Home, that's you're home, where you can

decorate, like a blog,

show you trophies and game experiences, like Live profile

serve as a virtual gathering point for friends to chat, like MSN or IRC and

share music and movies, like youtube and etc...

As a social tool, which also seeks socializaton thru gaming like live, it's much more deep. However Live does have a more solid approach because their focus on gaming. Home is more broad, so its chances of not surpassing Live in social gaming are pretty good(but I hope I'm wrong).

PS Virtual Home is a very innovative idea imo...but completely unnecessary imo. being able to walk around in a virtual home doesn't really interest me all that much. i doubt it will have a massive impact on people that already has a PS3 too. i just think PS Home is for bragging, nothing more, and most people could probabely care less for it. but that's just my opinion

If I assumed for 2 seconds what TC has said will come true, MS willcut the cost of live, add some new features and most people will stop caring. Of course the sad fact is that no one actually does care about PShome and this means us Xbox live users will have to keep paying.Ah well, back to Gears of War.8)

PS Home reminds me of dolly house. Do people really think it will become popular?

It will be just like second life.Over 8.3 million registered users, of which, 1.6 million haveused in the last 90 days.

the casual crowd still doesn't know what home is. Every one knows what live is.

you do the math.

Home looks like it would be nice for lonely people other than that I don't see what it has to do with gaming

Home: you walk around and talk.

Xbox Live: You can play games, talk, message, and off your profile.

So I say no.

DuDisNow

Anything XBL Home can do better; Home can do anything better than that crap. =P XBL sucks...P2P, laggy games that lacks registry. The only thing XBL have is the download choices.

Home is NOT a direct competition to XBL. XBL is just a set of tools to make online gaming extremely well integrated, easy and convenient. I don't consider loading up a seperate program, wandering around, waiting for friends to log on to visit their "home" very convenient. Its different, its certainly something, but competition to XBL it is not.Corvin

Great post!

[QUOTE="SillyManimal"][QUOTE="goodlay"][QUOTE="AgentA-Mi6"]

[QUOTE="goodlay"]Seeing the TC once said that the PS3 would sell 6 million units in one week after a price dropgoodlay

-sigh-

Your predictions in the past have been quite ridiculous. Home is just like making a Mii, then you just go around and socialize and have a house and what not, this is going to get old ridiculously fast. It doesn't have any depth like the Sims did, its just something to distract PSN users.

You have no idea what you are talkign about, Home is not a dumbed down version of the sims, it's an online gaming service provider, meaning you don't have to walk around and chat you can go straight to playing online games.

People know your facts.

Ok im really sorry, I shouldn't have messed with you.

Thats great, I already knew all of that, so don't question my knowledge. Thats great, you can go straight to playing online games, thats completely new, what a feature. Were talking about the avatar and the social aspect of Home, building a character and giving it a home and such. I just don't see the advantage Home has over Live, when a friend comes on it notifies you, and if you want to chat with someone you can send them a notice, I just think Live is much better than Home.

When did you try Home?

How are you people not getting this?

Home is XBL with a virtual avatar. You can do everything you can do with XBL like manage friends lists, chat, organize games, sexually harass "females", etc., but you have a virtual avatar, apartment, etc to show off as a visual representation of yourself. It's not just some stupid game where you walk around and talk to eachother. It's Second Life + XBL. I thought this much was made painfully obvious when watching the trailer.
