it's kinda gimmicky...

ever get invited over to watch someone else's home movies? not very exciting...

this is what Home will be like...

it's one thing to have a feature that EA has and another to try to build an entire business model on it...;)

tango90101

Yeah, Youtube.com still has to take off. I'm not sure its going to make it.

where did that come from?

it's pretty desperate for you to try to compare Home to YouTube....

apples and oranges..

You compared Home to going over to a friends house and watching boring old movies. And I compred that ignorance to watching other people's videos on Youtube. Whats the difference?

Home Movies = boring 3 hour fest.

YouTube = much, much shorter.

Do you really equate Home to YouTube? man, you're farther gone that i thought...

I did not equate Home to YouTube. I was just demonstrating a very popular source for watching other peope's movies. Who said everyone would have 3 hour boring home movies on Home?

Tango, no one stretches as long and as far as you do. You're arguments are just twists of the truth and endless ignorance.

It will be for Free , Sony Wont milk its userbase charging for it , Thats the biggest Pro Home Has gentlemen... Dont Forget it!AgentA-Mi6

Exactly!

If you want to walk round looking like a pleb then it's free. If you want to dress up, buy stuff for your house or do stuff..... then it will cost. Xbox Live costs £35 a year on Amazon at the mo. I think Sony are aiming for more than £2.92 per month in revenue from Home and PSN.

Free pffft... silly cows.

Don't belive what it says on the tin. Do people still believe the Sony PR machine? after all this time?
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. That being said I will be going over to the dark side and getting a PS3 when the UK gets a decent price cut - but I wont be under any illusions.

a game where you go online, find another person, and play with them? I'd rather just stand up, grab a second controller, and play with the people in my real house.

This kind of argument is ridiculous. Online wouldn't be so big if eveyone was satisfied with talking and gaming with the people in their own house.

I did not equate Home to YouTube. I was just demonstrating a very popular source for watching other peope's movies. Who said everyone would have 3 hour boring home movies on Home?

dubvisions

Unless you can search in Home for user-created videos instead of requiring an invite to a gamer's Home, then Home will be nothing like YouTube.

Any sort of analogy between the two is a stretch.

OMG!!! You guys need to quit twisting things into what you want to believe. I NEVER SAID HOME WAS JUST LIKE YOUTUBE!!!!

Tango said that all Home was, was having to go to another player's "home" and watch their boring 3 hour movies. Which we all know is a large stretch of reality. In reality, people will have short clips pf in-game footage or they'll have the same type of movies you see people upload to YouTube. And my point was, if "home movies" are so dull, and long, and boring, how does Youtube do so well?

Get a clue, gentlemen. Don't twist my words!

Here's whats funny. Most are downing Home because they don't think gamers will want to see achievements of other gamers. That, "Who wants to go all the way to another gamer's pad to see another gamer's stuff?"

Well, this is nowhere near what Home does but does give you an indication of how people will want to show off and see what others have done: http://www.easportsworld.com/

This is an EA Sports site where gamers upload their game footage highlights or in-game snapshots. there are a lot of people sharing in there for this type of thing not to be popular.

dubvisions

It is a cool feature but to declare a console is better than the other purely based on this is just plain silly. I think it is a cool option but if the PS3 doesn't start pumping games out, Home will be a ghost town.

dhjohns, some days are good for you and some not so much. Today, I would say, not so much for you. First, the TC wasn't claiming one console better than the other. He was saying Home will be a major blow to Live. So, slow down and read a little closer.

And using the "no games" excuse is weak. I AM NOT SAYING ALL OF THESE GAMES WILL BE GREAT, but here's a list of PS3 console exclusives from now until the end of the year (and this isn't all of them):

WarHawk August 28, 2007

Lair Sept 4, 2007

Heavenly Sword Sept 12, 2007

High Stakes poker on the Vegas Strip Q3 2007

FolkLore Oct 9, 2007

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of destruction Oct 23, 2007

The eye judgement Oct 23, 2007

Hot Shots Golf 5 Q4 20007

Unreal Tournament 3 Nov. 12 2007

Singstar Nov 6, 2007

Haze Nov 19 ,2007

Uncharted: Drake' Fortune Q4, 2007

Time Crisis 4, Q4 2007

Socom: Confrontation November 2007

According to a lot of Cows and Hermits, there's no such thing as a console exclusive. You can't use that term around here.

your point why Youtube does so well, is because they're entertaining...

watching/listening to some kid brag about bumping his way to victory in GT5 is NOT entertaining....

hope this helps...;)

Home is just like inviting someone to your house to watch movies, because the only way you're going to watch my movies in HOme is via an invite.

Unless we can upload our personal vids to a Sony/PSN database so that PS3 gamers can search said videos, then the Home/YouTube analogy is a huge, pathetic stretch.

I will explain this to you ONE MORE TIME!!! I never said Home functioned like YouTube or had the same set up as YouTube or even that it would be as popular as YouTube.

All I said was that people upload their "home made" movies onto YouTube all of the time. And that "home movies" doesn't mean 3 hour bore fests either.

Home is nothing like Youtube other than the fact that when you go into a friends "home" in home you could be watching "home videos" of theirs much like what you see on YouTube.

Pretty hard to follow, huh?

Yep, I have to say that Home really does rock. As I've always stated, 3D environment for free >>>>>>> wall of ugly text for $50 a year. That's why I have a PS3.

Wall of ugly text? Obviously you don't own a 360 or have a clue on how it works? You are entitled to your opinion, just make sure it is based on real facts and not guesswork.

Actually, yeah it is difficult to follow.

Your analogy is exactly like his other than the fact that you won't admit that some home/personal videos are boring. Tango may beexaggerating saying that all home/personal vids are boring, but there are a ton of boring vids onYouTube.

In fact, you actually backed-up his statement by saying that the only way you'll watch user movies is via an invite to the gamer's PS3 Home.

You guys are just debating on the quality of said videos.

First of all, I'm done going over this again and again for you lems.

Second, I assume Sony will allow movies to be uploaded because they will allow pictures. I may be wrong, and if so, so are you. Eiether you can upload videos or not. Has nothing to do with the Eye Toy.

third, you keep contending that if users did upload their own videos that they would have to be "the ones friends invite you over to watch of their vacation, b-days, etc..". What about videos like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8
It has has over 26 million views and is only 5 minutes long. I guess its not a 3 hour bore fest, huh?

"if people don't want to watch saved gaming vids why would they want to watch other movies? it doesn't make sense..." Again, if this was the case, websites like YouTube wouldn't exists. Like it or not, people like watching other people's "home movies."

And the funniest part..... this is only a small part of what Home will offer.

Home: you walk around and talk.

Xbox Live: You can play games, talk, message, and off your profile.

So I say no.

DuDisNow

You can also play games and message in Home.

With Playstation HOME, you can do everything that Xbox Live has, and more. Playstation HOME as some much potential that it's not even funny. It might not replace Xbox Live, but it's interesting enough.

WE know media can be uploaded to your PS3 Home, but he meant uploaded to a PSN servers so that this media can be found via a search function.

Home: you walk around and talk.

Xbox Live: You can play games, talk, message, and off your profile.

So I say no.

DuDisNow

we can play games ever heard of PSN or ever heard about the free mini games on the Home space?

With Ps Home around the corner Xlive is in grave danger if not already dead,Ps Virtual home is probably the most innovative idea in the history of gaming a massive 3D Virtual interactionspace for Play Station users absolutely free of charge(For the basic suscription) will most likely be the last nail in coffin for the "charge for everything XLive"

Your thread just FAILED right there. And here is why....

Xbox Live Silver

  • Create and maintain a friends list
  • Access Xbox Live Marketplace including Xbox Live Arcade, demos, and trailers
  • Send and receive text and voice messages
  • Join in special Xbox Live Gold trial opportunities
  • Access massively multiplayer games
And its free sir..

Keep twisting it. Maybe if you twist the truth enough, it will come back full cercle and make sense. I prove one thing and you bring up another. i prove that and there's another.

Once again. I NEVER SAID HOME FUNCTIONED LIKE YOUTUBE.COM!!! I NEVER SAID USERS WOULD BE ABLE TO UPLOAD VIDEOS TO A SERVER FOR SEARCHING!!!! I ONLY DREW A LIKENESS TO THE HOME VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE TO THE POSSIBLE VIDEOS USERS WOULD UPLOAD TO HOME!!!!
