So have we come to a consensus that this will be the last generation of handheld consoles?
No, disregard that. It sold 160k in 13 weeks. I did not see that '1' lol. So... It sold... Horribly o_Ocampzor
and thats the end of that chapter
Not really, we already knew the 3DS was selling poorly. The Vita has no big games announced. The 3DS, even before the Monster Hunter announcement, had big sellers like Mario Kart, Mario, Pokemon and Animal Crossing lined up. What does the Vita have?Given how well the 3DS is selling? No.So have we come to a consensus that this will be the last generation of handheld consoles?

Oh didn't realize the 3DS is actually selling well. Well, I guess Sony still has an oppourtunity to right the ship then.

The big western devs don't do silly handhelds, and Nintendo has grabbed the Japanese publishers.
In addition it has no room for an immediate pricecut unless they take a big loss. What's more, a pricecut by itself won't have a lasting effect.

Sorry but PSV is a sinking ship and probably Sony's last dedicated handheld,
SuperFlakeman
Weren't those exact words said about PS3?
They can't salvage PSV as opposed to PS3.
PS3 was still a financial disaster and lost 45% marketshare. In addition multiplatform games usually perform better on 360. I don't care if it sold 60 million units worldwide, it was a failiure.
It was not a failure. Otherwise it would've been discontinued like Dreamcast. And Vita is here to stay whether you like it or not (clearly it's "not", in your case).
If it was a complete failure it still wouldn't be on sale 6 years later.

It survived because Sony is a massive company with money in their bank. Or was/had, things aren't going so great for them atm.
A console only dreamcasts if they are out of cash. SEGA wasn't in a position to take a financial disaster, Sony could.

If Nintendo wishes to maintain DS level of sales they need to get that revision out soon Maybe March 2013. 3DS is all good for now, but DS is about to enter beast mode :P

yet xbox will end up last this gen like they did last gen.
Check out the slope of the DS graph. If Nintendo wants to maintain DS sales, they're gonna have to go beast mode on 3DS. (this is Japan)

What does Sony's size have to do with anything? Large companies kill off products all the time. If Sony regarded the PS3 as a complete failure, they would have killed it.
Why are people spinning PS3's failiure? I mean obviously "failiure" is a relative term, but this is a bit extreme.
Fact 1) Sony (blue) lost a hefty amount of moneys don't you think? Basically they were back to square one.

Fact 2) According to Wiki numbers, PS3 dropped 44% in marketshare from PS2.
??
This is a huge disaster for any company and any product in such a short period of time.

Yes I do realize that Sony did lose significant amounts of money and market share with the PS3. But to come out and say the PS3 was an outright failure is ridiculous. Look at HP with the whole Palm fiasco. HP spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring Palm and developing the HP TouchPad, and it lasted for only a few months on the market before HP killed it off and the entire Palm (by then HP) mobile lineup. That is a complete failure. Did the PS3 not live up to the benchmarks set by the PS1 and PS2? Yes. Did the PS3 completely flop? No. The PS3 is still alive and well, and has a decent share of the market.
When is Sony and other companies are going to realize Nintendo is the king of handhelds. Nintendo gets it right when it comes to handhelds. They focusing on games rather than horse power.helwa1988
Nintendo has been doing it alone for a long time, a monopoly if you will. Competition is a good thing. If you truly want handhelds to continue, you will support both the 3ds and the Vita
It has good games for it, and more to come, and that's all that really matters for me. The games, and since I have a PS3 the remote play would be sweet.

I hope Nintendo learned something from the horrible 3DS launch. That should help the "U"They did learn there mistake."3DS was widely criticised for launching without a digital download store and its lack of high-profile Nintendo franchises like Zelda and Mario, with Iwata repeatedly stating the company will not make the same mistakes again."

What are you referring to? 3DS or Vita? Maybe the Vita should make a deal with that guy in your sig for success. They talk the talk. We will see this year.

I was never interested in them before psp. Sony focuses on games you just may not like them is all just like I'm not into N's. Socom, resistance, god of war are all games I enjoyed on psp. I got unit 13 but haven't started it yet. Nothing wrong with lots of horsepower especially with the same battery life as psp.

It's just amazing how much things have changed since E3 last year. Cows have well and truly been kicked in the udder after their incessant bellowing.

Dosent sound as bad as you make it to be, you should provide the link on your OP for others to see and not your own words just sayin.. 3DS done 7k while Vita done 5k according to the site you posted last week which isnt bad.. maybe those numbers are regular thing for France as people in there are saying 3DS did very similar numbers also on its launch in France
No they are not, Sony had already cut exports to France in half. They saw this coming
