[QUOTE="e_stone001"] Well in your comment it sounds like you're mentioning the hardware issue along so you're really making it sound like the hardware sucks when it's not and putting software sales separate. But anyways give it time. Never doubt a system at early release. e_stone001

Why early release are when sales are usually strongest.

You Vita fans think that just because Nintendo turned 3DS around that Vita still has a chance?

Nintendo had room to drop the price and huge portable franchises to save it. Vita has nothing.

It did sell well when it first launched. You're getting delusional. If you think the Vita will end up like the PSP software wise, you're wrong. Sony said themselves that they are serious with the Vita. I'm done talking to sheep/lems like you that don't know anything. Now if you excuse me, I'll be playing Wipeout on my PS Vita right now.

What? Did you just call me delusional and act like the Vita was going to do better than the PSP in the same breath?

Somebody forgot to tell this kid the PSP was a huge success in comparison to the Vita.

You will be lucky if Vita sees 1/3rd of the games or sales of the PSP.

I think it will be discontinued personally.

Wow, wonder what Sony will get me for buying one early when they discontinue...

This isn't really a surprise at this point. Question is, how will Sony respond to these disappointing sales?

I'm personally hoping for a price cut or redesign (which are really their only two options at this point). I'd pick one up if it was as cheap as the 3DS, and had full backwards compatibility.

[QUOTE="HarlockJC"][QUOTE="p4s2p0"] The tech like 5" screen, built in dual analogs,Six-axis motion sensing, multitouch newer than resistive on 3ds. not that there's anything wrong with 3ds but vita is what I've always wanted in a portableDeadMan1290

If people were jelly of tech they would buy PCs or Ipads.

Except an iPad or PC are completely over expensive compared to a Vita. Especially the iPad.

Yet people are still buying waay more PCs and iPads then a Vita

here are the arguements so far for the reasons the Vita's sales are just horrible.. no matter how we slice it we have to face these facts.

1. Some just wholly blame the economy- yet this is contradicted by the high purchases in iPads, PCs, 3DS and Consoles.

2. some just say the games are geared towards a Western audience- Is this a positive or a negative?

3. Some people just blame bad marketing or not enough of it- Is there any figures or stats to confirm or discard this other then just opinion and taste?

4. Apart from just appealing to ones own opinion and bias on the PS Vita and the current games how does it any way answer or solve why the PS Vita sales are as low as they are?

5. Is there an agreement on which market/region matters for the PS Vita? or is it only the one which one has bought the most?

[QUOTE="HarlockJC"]The problem is with that is Sony may not be able to afford a price cut any time soon. They are already losing so much on each one sold. HarlockJC

That's my biggest problem with Sony. They're too concentrated on high technology and other features that would make the handheld more expensive rather then concentrating on simpler features for the machine.

That the problem with Sony has a whole. If they would have came out with a gimmick to sell the Vita rather than make a more powerful system it would have been more successful.

The PS Vita does have gimmicks fron a touch screen, back touch, a camera for Augmented reality gaming, it's packed with gimmicks.

Its not that simple, to where its "bu..bu people buy Ipads ect, so that must mean its not the economy." Look it how much Apple markets. Look it how fanatical their fanbase is as well. Ipads / and other Apple products are the RARE exception and not the norm. I completly agree with the guy you quoted. I disagree with you.

WThat's not the point.

If people are pointing out that the 3DS is selling because of it's gimmicks then that doesn't explain why the DS sold so well or explain how come Vita isn't since it has so many gimmicks.

The 3DS may actually have an advantage over the Vita since children who can't get a smart phone can get a 3DS at a reasonable price. Vita is pretty much only going to appeal to adults, and I think smart phones may be killing it's chances in a very brutal way. It's too bad, because I don't see Apple or Samsung making tablets with joysticks, and that's about the only thing that could truly replace a handheld game system (even though handhelds will probably be extinct long before anyone considers making true gaming tablets).

what about that tablet with the two Move controllers on the side?

Apparently not that many people didn't like that here on SW.

I live in Spain and travel a lot to France, never saw anyone with a vita on their hands (but quite some 3DS, specially on the metro).

Although the number 1 champion on the street is still the DS.

Sony clearly went into the Vita's launch with low expectations. It's just obvious. From their lack of marketing to the low amount of retail space they seem to demand, its clear that Sony didn't really expect grand sales. At least for now.

The thing is they've seemingly only targeted the hardcore PS3 owner. There's not many of us out there. It's not as deep of a pool that the 3DS is after. Nintendo is aggresively trying to lure in hardcore gamers AND kids. That's abigger market right there. So even though the 3DS game library is filled with "casual" shovelware, it works both ways. Lots of parents will buy a 3DS for their kids, and the higher sales numbers will convince more 3rd party publishers to create great games for the 3DS. Combine that with Nintendo's unique ability to sell their 1st party games in the MASSES and more great games for the 3DS equals more hardcore gamers jumping ship and buying a 3DS.

I have a feeling that Nintendo's E3 2012, is going to have some really killer 3DS titles, because of how many 3DS's currently are in people's hands.

Who does Sony have to buy the Vita other than a minority of hardcore PS3 owners? There just aren't enough of us out there to get the Vita's sales numbers way up. So what I think is going to happen, is after Resistance launches, Sony will aggresively try and tap the "broskimainstream gamer". I'm friends with a bunch of people like that. Basically people who like games, like shooters, and have no idea what a gaming forum is. Not hardcore gamers like us, but they do spend a lot of time playing COD/Battlefield/etc. There are a LOT of people like this.

So maybe after Resistance launches, we'll see some more aggressive marketing. We'll maybe see some more bundles down the line to make things more appealing. And maybe a drastic price drop sometime near the holidays. If Sony can generate interest amongst those gamers, they can definetely move units in the holiday season, and in turn get more 3rd party support. I have a feeling that Sony is really just testing the waters right now. Just hoping that word of mouth, and some lousy commercials can make this device stand afloat until they go balls out during the holidays.

Because thinking about it logically, if they don't start changing up their marketing tactics and such laterthis device just won't succeed. Sony has to be smart enough to realize that hardcore gamers alone can NOT support a system.

The numbers for the PS Vita's launch in France are in, and they're... terrible.

The system sold 66,000 units in its launch month in France. Sounds good, right? Wrong.

As French economic newspaper Les Echos reveals, this is the single worst launch for any system in France in history.

Of those 66,000 units, a full 42,000 units were sold in the first week, pointing to a tapering interest in the system. Last week, the system sold only 5,000 units in the country, and was outsold by the 3DS.

Things like this have already started to happen to a system that is barely a month old, in its strongest territory (remember, mainland Europe is Sony land)... the Vita has had a horrible launch worldwide, in every single territory, worse than the 3DS, and this is just bizarre, given the fact that the 3DS launched at the same price with inferior tech, a pathetic launch lineup, most of its functionality missing, and more. The Vita launches with state of the art hardware and some great hardware, and it flounders.

The Vita's future may be very bleak.

To summarize:

  • PS Vita sells poorly in France
  • France is the second biggest EU market, and fourth biggest worldwide
  • France is part of Europe, which has been Sony's stronghold since 1995
  • PS Vita's launch in France is the poorest launch for a system in the country in history
  • It is already being outsold by the 3DS

Sony needs to do something, and fast.

Mozelleple112
France is not the second biggest in EU / 4th biggest worldwide? #1 US (by miles) #2 Japan #3 UK #4 Germany #5 France. Actually, I think China might be #4 or #5 and France #6.. There are a few MMOs in China that have nearly as much players as WoW, the #1 played game in the world (proper games, so no farmville, port folio, etc..)

UK is not in EU.So France takes the #2nd place in Euion. As for Globally, not sure where the 4th comes from but it cant be too far from it

The UK is 100% in the EU. What makes you think otherwise?

I don't care what the French are buying and neither should you.SolidSnake35
I think Atarikid cares what the French are buying. May as well say who cares what all other countries are buying including whatever country we are living in.

That back hand touch controls is something new and different. How come these gimmicks aren't attracting buyers and Sony faithfuls? Maybe the PS Vita is simply not powerful enough or have enough of that 'woo' factor to justify the price of a dedicated gaming handheld. Maybe the big market for dedicated handhelds isn't there anymore. With the exception of Nintendo as that has gained a lot of clout, fanbase and franchises over the 20 years handheld gaming. It's a post dedicated handheld gaming world now.
