PS Vita memory cards and other accessories priced by GameStop

How can anybody defend the fact that some games you need a memory card to boot up game. And $15 for a USB cord? Odd we can't use the USB cord we have now.

Because you can save on the game cart itself. Defeats the purpose of that if you still need the blasted thing.

I just bought a 16GB card the other day for $10. How can anyone defend those prices?

Ideally in a handheld I would like both on card saves and memory card saves.

To be fair, it could be that some games use the card for a page file to enable a working memory pool that is larger than the system's physical memory; many PC games and some console games make use of the hard drive for this but the Vita lacks built-in storage (as far as I know).

Once the system is available it won't take long to find out whether it's being actually used by games or is just an artificial requirement to sell more proprietary garbage.

Well, it will depend on how customised these memory cards actually are; if only its physical shape is different you'll see third-party cards very quickly (as well as some DIY methods), but if the card has to communicate in a specific manner or have special internals it could take a while for alternatives to become available.

Apple charges $40 for a charging cable. I'll pay $15.

And this is why the Vita needs more justification before I purchase the thing. It took two great 3DS games before I was sold on that system, and since the Vita is more expensive it'll take at least three great games before I buy one.
