The original BC PS3 was the best console ever made. It had the most expansive library in video game history (via backwards compatability), and the most impressive technological capabilities to date. It could install Linux and become a desktop computer. It was to consoles what a high-powered PC is.

Sadly, the current PS3 is only a shadow of the original design's greatness.

Well technically its the best ever made of course. But for games its not even the best console of this generation.

Nah, it's between PS1 and PS2 for me.

Some great memories there, like playing FF VII, VIII, and IX on release day 8)

The PS2 has more games than 360, Wii and PS3 combined so go figure.

it had around 3000 games with 1000 great games, PS3 has around 300-400 games with 90-100 great games, major downgrade.

all of the PS2 masterpieces had sequels last gen, this gen we have only one GTA, one Devli May Cry, one MGS, one FF, Tekken, soon we will have one GOW, one GT and one game from Team ICO, I could go on and on.

Last gen we had more amazing new IPs created from developers like Devil May Cry, Onimusha, GTA ( not new but a reboot, a revolution) , GOW, XenoSaga, Kingdom Hearts, Black, Def Jam, Freedom Fighters, Mafia, Manhunt, Max Payne, Midnight Club, Indigo Prophecy, Timesplitters, Ratchet and Clank, SSX...etc.

While this gen almost all we have is sequels to franchises started with the PS2 and became big.

Third, some of the game I've mentioned were exclusives to the PS brand which made the PS2 more valuable for consumer and stronger, now these games are shared with other consoles which makes the PS3's library weaker.

One thing for sure is if the ps3 and 360 werent close to each other on your list of favorite consoles. Then you are an idiot cause they are so similar, almost the same thing.

I have come to the conclusion that:

1) TC is not very old, he has not seen the impact of consoles before tthe PS3 (NES, SNES, PS1 especially comes to mind, together with more then a few of the Atari platforms)

2) he has not seen what the other consoles this gen offer

Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye 007, Banjo-Tooie, Banjo-Kazooie, Super Mario 64, Starcraft 64, Conker, Paper Mario, ect... I mean, the list goes on. The N64 had a large amount of classic games.

Hardware wise, yes it is the best console ever made. Overall though, that title belongs to the PS2.

That's how I feel about it. The Blu-ray functionality is great but for gaming it really lacks compared to other consoles.

1. You will be waiting a long long time since Halo 3 came out in 2007, Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 both 2008, but since most PS3 owners are used to waiting shouldn't be that big deal.

2. For people who don't game on their PC console exclusives is a big deal. I myself rarely play anything on my PC so having games that are available on the Xbox 360 makes it that much better.

3. The whole nostalgia thing is great in theory but in practice it sucks. Tried it with the Wii, it wears off fairly quickly. And really, there is no covering up the fact the PS3 can't play PS2 games.

Its not even the best of this gen so how can it be the best ever?
