You mentioned game updates, X360 has them as well as PC. As for it being slow, I've never had an update take that long ever, hell, even DCUO had like a 10 gig download and it took less than 2 hours. The Standard 100 mb update takes about 2 minutes to download and install for me (Have 16 Mb connection). Either it's a PSN America problem (I'm from Portugal), or it only affects some people.

Most likely, its a router problem, PS forums have info on what to allow through your router, give it a try.

Buy a 360, your games will update in mere seconds.

Phazevariance

Why would someone buy a console to experience faster updates?

I've noticed my PS3 download speeds are slower than my computer's, but even 300mb shouldn't take 5 hours. Something is definitely wrong on your end, sir.

[QUOTE="broken_ops"]i once had a 20mb uncharted 2 patch take roughly 20 minutes to download:| its pathetic, ive never had problems with slow game and system updates on the 360spookykid143

I find that highly unlikely

its true, and the funny thing is, thats really the only time its been THAT slow. i can usually download stuff within a reasonable amount of time, but in comparison to xbl, pretty much everything i download on ps3 takes longer than it probably should

Utilize google and learn how to set up your network. It's good, yes?

I download mine over a tethered connection with a 3G Droid X. I have no problems whatsoever, and it doesnt take nearly as long as you are saying. I can guarantee that you download faster then a tethered 3G cellphone, just saying

Actually i tend towards believing him. I updated to 3.56 today and it took me around 40 minutes. Also the last GT5 update that was over 1 Gig took forever, i don't remember exactly how long it took but it was way over 2 hours. PSN updates are so incredibly slow for me and it can't be just my connection. My download speed on steam and 360 marketplace are fine.

U mad brah? - Theres no way an update of that size would take that long to download, something wrong with your internet. I've never had a firmware update take that long, mine took me around 15 minutes MAX including install time. - Its hilarious how you were going to play Black Ops, yet complain about the update that bans cheaters, making your experience more enjoyable. - Chill out, updates are not very frequent. The only time updates have ever annoyed me is when I play a game I haven't touched for months.

It doesn't take me very long to update at all and I have a fairly slow connection. At most it takes me 10 min to download and install. It really doesn't seem that frequent to me anyways.

Edit: Five hours is insane though...

Updates on my PS3 ALWAYS take forever to download. I've had quite a few different ISPs over the past couple of years too so I don't think it has anything to do with my internet connection. Especially since I can download stuff so quickly on my PC.

I think his update is a little longer than usual, but I'd agree they can be a little longer than PC/360 updates. My PS3 download speed is always 2-5mbps wirelessly but it's always dling demoes much slower than that. Household internet is much faster as well, but I'm guessing it has something to do with a cap speed on the wireless in the PS3 itself.

I also think that people exaggerate how fast their updates are. I owned a PS3 for abut three years or so and many of the updates and downloads were pretty damn slow.

That said, I would accuse the TC of lying about the 5 hours, but he's a pretty big PS3 supporter from the posts I've read, so I'll just chalk it up to their being something wrong at his end. There's no way a download that size would take 5 hours.

So I've been watching my nephew for a few days while my sister is out of town and he brought over his copy of Mod Nation Racers to play on my PS3 while he's here. We popped it in the PS3 and we sat there with the controllers in our hands ready to play a few matches, download some custom made race tracks, and all that fun stuff. But it's never that simple when it comes to the PS3... is it? As soon as the game starts, a game update pop-up comes on the screen. I thought, "Okay... fair enough, shouldn't take TOO long" but when the update started, it said it was 324MB I was sitting there like ":| wtf..." but I thought "Ok... well I have a 32Mbps internet connection so this STILL shouldn't take too long. I'll start it up right now, leave the game running, and me and the kid will go do something else for a little while and by the time we come back it'll be done no matter what." So I started the update and left the room.

Boy was I wrong.

It's been about 5 hours now and the update STILL isn't f***ing done. It's only 83% done to be exact. But guess what? According to the case, I still have to install the game in order to play once the update IS done. WTF. Why can't I just pop in the game and play? Why do I have to waste half of the day for crap to download and install?

I run onto this problem a lot on the PS3. The other night me and my girlfriend just wanted to hop on Black Ops and play a few matches with each other. But guess what... we couldn't do that. Why? RIDICULOUS firmware update 3.56 that did absolutely NOTHING for us. It took 45 freaking minutes for BOTH of us. And if I remember correctly, the file size wasn't even that large. What gives? It seems like Sony feels the need to release these useless updates every other week too. I'm sick and tired of it. Maybe if they didn't download SO SLOW and happen SO OFTEN, they wouldn't be such a big deal. But now it's to the point where I'm about to spend the money and get a 360 specifically because of this.

Seriously Sony, don't you see how inconvenient these damn things are? Patches and firmware updates are fine usually, but don't make every little tiny insignificant update MANDATORY when in 2 weeks it's going to be obsolete anyways. And instead of putting your effort into making stupid little updates that nobody cares about like the ones you've been releasing lately, how about releasing something people actually WANT... like Cross Game Chat. There's NO excuse for the PS3 to not have CGC by now. People have been begging for it for years now. :| 1)Stop releasing so many useless updates 2) UPGRADE YOUR DAMN SERVERS so they don't take unreasonably long times to download 3) GIVE YOUR CUSTOMERS WHAT THEY ASK FOR with these updates, don't spend time giving us stuff we dont want 4)Don't make every single update mandatory

Discuss. Who else feels the same way as I do?

Messiahbolical-

Sorry brah, nice jokes cos a 400mb file on my PS3 will download in less than half an hour, quite less.

You realize that if you play your PS3 often then the updates dont stack and they actualy arent that bad or often. Hell, before the latest one we didnt have one for a few months.

umm, i usually just update it when i'm going to class or do it over night and have it shut it self down when its done, so i don't understand your pain, sorry.

Chris_Williams

I'm sorry but your response is incredibly ignorant. Why? Because guess what? Sometimes you just want to play on the spur of the moment...ya know like spontaneously...so basically what he's saying is that you're held hostage from these firmware updates when you just want to play. He is not the only one. I've had many experiences like this when maybe you want to squeeze in a few quick games but then you eventually say **** it because by the time the download is finished you may have more important matters to tend to and you end up not playing the ps3. It's a joke I tell ya..

Seems you're the only one HERE having this kind of problem, so it's definitely not Sony's fault... but let's wait and see if someone else with a PS3 is from Arizona too and see how's he doing.

GreenGoblin2099

Errr, no. I have an excellent internet connection that is blasing fast virtually everywhere I go (sometimes I'm getting 2MB/sec), but the PS3's servers are ridiculously slow. I agree TC, it is very annoying having to constantly update, another reason why I prefer the 360.

I don't get what you people are complaining about, stop overexaggerating updates. I live in Australia and we have nowhere near as good internet as other western countries and updates only take me a few minutes. Either your internet is not configured correctly or you just overexaggerating.

Its well known psn download speeds on most ISPsare literally 20% of what you would usually get on pc or 360 people have complained for years about firmware updates and game updates taking forever.
but this time its gotta be messiahs Isp or hes gotta be lying it couldn't be that Psn has always been slow.

when going to a resteraunt if you expect free drinks don't expect good service.

Assuming you're being honest, you are in the minority.

Minority? Not really since people complain about it all the time.

This is just a forum, how do you know this is a worldwide thing?

Ok, let's get this straight:

It's true that the PC/360 updates are faster than the PS3 updates, HOWEVER, these don't take more than 20/30 mins. (and that's really really stretching) less 5 hrs like TC stated.

Also, it doesn't update THAT often. Like Xboximus said, before the one last week, there hasn't been an update for months now.

Google is your friend. Type in ps3 updates and it guesses the sentence for you. Type in 360 updates and you don't get the same result.
