it probably depends on the day you started the download. if it was a time when everyone else was downloading then that would cause your speed to be much slower. Ontain

That is really not the case, mydownloads and updates always take forever for me on my ps3.

300MB for 5 hours!!? There must be something wrong with your internet connection. Mine is 1-2 Mbps and I can finish download that amount within 3 hours. For your 32 Mbps, this is ridiculous.

I hate the PS3 for the exact same reason. Updates take forever to download and then forever to install. On my 360 it takes 5 seconds, max. PC is fast as well. It's just bad software, no if ands or buts.

I am a long time PS fan and PS3 owner and I'm going to have to agree. I don't know if this is something that has been getting slowly worse over time, or if it has always been this slow and I never noticed it before?

I am a PSN+ subscriber and even downloading something like Qore, which is smaller than 300 megs I think, takes, like you said, hours. And it isn't my internet connection because I don't have the same problems on my PC which is all hooked up to the same system.

So I can concur that the download speeds for PS3 are unacceptably slow.

I'm pretty sure it is the PS3 and not his connection.

I had the DCU beta through PSN+. It literally took a good 7 hours to download the original file. Then it had to install which wasn't too bad. But then I never even got to play the game because it needed another 100-200 meg download that I had no patience to even get. I literally left my PS3 on all day one day, about 12 hours, and it was only up to 30% downloaded. Once I saw that I swore then immediately just deleted the beta completely.

I do not have these issues with my PC.

I have a 15mb/s speed and it takes me usually only a matter of minutes to download updates. sounds like the TS needs to check his isp...

1) Check what other devices are on (my 360 seems to steal the connection for me) 2) Get a wired connection, faster and more stable as the wireless adapter in the PS3 is kinda slow 3) Check connection strength (put tin foil around the side of the router that is pointing away from the PS3, i got double the strength on my PC from this) 4) If your tired of firmware updates then download off the Sony site and copy it with a USB (this might have been removed recently though) 5) NAT types (i dunno but i had a mate fiddle around in the past and downloads seemed to speed up after it)

The updates are done. It was 6 updates (not 4 like you said), and it was about 1.3 gigs total, the 324 MB was just the last one. You also said that you saw it was 324 MB and that it took five hours from when you started. Given that it was the 6th update that was that size, and the fact that you said you never played the game on your ps3 before, I'm gonna have to call you out on your B.S.

I'll also add that Windows updates take a lot longer than my PS3 updates do. Since it downloads in the background it doesn't bother me though.

Also, I deleted the game date before doing this, so the game would have to start from scratch. I posted as the game was finishing its install, the one it does after the updates. Game is at start menu now.

I've never played this game, but I haven't had that many updates. You act like they update every week. And it will take 10 mins max to update. Not a big deal. Must be something wrong with your PS3. And cross game chat, I heard they were having some kind of copyright issues with EA concerning that.

I see that there are people comparing it to downloading something off the Playstation Store. While I agree 5 hrs seems to long, updates do seem to take a LOT longer than downloading something off the PS Store.

5 hrs for 300 MB?? Either there must be something wrong or you must be joking.

It doesn't take that long.

This^ it's probably your connection. Maybe even memory. It never took my ps3s that long to update.

My girlfriend had a similar problem the other day. Went to play Blur, but had to sit through a 40 min update before should could. She just left it running and found something else to do, but she did say her least favorite part of her PS3 are the updates :P

Well that is a large update. I guess it could take a whi---
5 hours Messiahbolical-
Nobody's falling for that :|

It took 9h hours to download the latest BFBC2 update , which was 1700mb , I've got the exact same connection. While his data looks worse than mine if you do the maths , both are unacceptable , sony is the one to blame for this , nothing on my 360 tokk me more than a minute.Unfortunately I don't have any reason to turn it on , but anyways.Just trying to show I'm completely unbiased until they screw me.

It's definitely a ps3 thing... their servers are crazy slow... i run several mbps and can normally download 300mb in seconds but for a 61mb update on ps3 it can take 2 hrs...

it's not something that can be accurately measured really, too many factors, internet speed, whether you are getting the speed they tell you, internet traffic at the time, i took 3hours and 45 minutes for me to download Batman Arkham City (about 7GB) the other night on my 360, and my 360 has been updating all the time lately.

The other night I had a similar experience.

Downloading file of about 1 gig off PSN, I use my 360 for about 2 hours, come back it's at %54 "wtf"

Reset my router and cable modem, it started going alot faster.

This never happens to me on my PC or 360, only on PS3.

People have been telling Sony for ages "dude PSN is f*cked up, something's wrong." But they either don't have the expertise or money to have smooth downloads, it's always a crapshoot, PSN is always some percentage of normal speed, never full speed.

You guys really need to look at your connection settings, that's not normal behavior. Make sure you have ports open and nothing is being blocked, if you run Wifi make sure your router is configured.

This.

The longest I had to wait for an update was 20 minutes, tops.
And even that happened maybe 2 times in all the years I owned a PS3.

Yeah.

Honestly, I'm not calling the TC a lemming but it really makes me think that some of these complaints are coming from the less technically inclined.

It's not settings it's PSN.

PC/360 never does this.

My friend actually had similar problems and hired a professional to go over his setup, even bought a new router. PSN is very poor.

Sony KNOWS this.

Why do you think PS+ does background download? They know their schit is unreliable and spotty.

Your right it might not had been just on PSN, Like I mentioned earlier. Check your internet settings also as well as the Wifi if that is what he uses.

I gotta say, the fact your friend had to hire a "Professional," to figure out his PSN settings is very telling.

It's not rocket science, I mean you should of been able to figure that out with your 14 years In IT bulsh!ttery.

Completely agree. Went to download the Ni No Kuni demo the other day only to be hit with a slow ass update. Then had to download something so that I could access the new PSN store, and then the demo was over 2GB which took ages on Sonys slow ass servers.
