Completely useless for PS4 games... I highly doubt the PS4 will be powerful enough to render actual games in native 4k... Hell even high end PCs have some trouble with it.
For movies... now that would be awesome.
How often do Sony think people buy new TVs?
Everyones only just got standard Hi Def LCDs.
1080p, 3D, 4K. They need to slow down their road map a bit.
I just want a powerful enough console for 60 frames to be the standard but the focus on graphics from developers it's so huge that they rather drop it to 30 frames to be able to make prettier games. But if you ask me, 60 frames make the games look prettier too and it helps gameplay greatly.

How about getting the games run at 1080p at steady 60 and good AA and AF first?
Like it was promised with the PS3...

Watching Sony's E3 2005 still gives me a good laugh. 1080P on all games! 60fps! Dual HDMI!
And all those prerendered trailers xD
Teh power of teh Cell... :P
oh wow and I made a thread asking if 1080p was too late for next gen consoles which was like 2 days ago

Pretty funny when you think of it now. Yet they will all believe the garbage sony and MS claim this time too
People need to use some basic logic. The PS3 has trouble with 720p at 60FPS. Actually many games are sub 720p (confirmed) running in the 15-30FPS (confirmed)-Beyond3d.com
Clearly the next Playstation will have a more powerful GPU. However, with the current financial problems with the Sony gaming division, it is likely that they will opt for a mid-range GPU. It will be HARD to up the resolution to 1080p. Why? It is double the number of pixels of 720p. Not only that, but then to get to 60FPS...that alone might take all of the GPU to just accomplish that will games having the SAME graphical fidelity.
I do think games will look better. I also think that the DX11 effects will help graphical fidelity as well. But the likelihood of getting 1080p at a solid 60FPS will be more challenging than many people think.
Don't let the hype fool ya. This next gen is not going to shock the graphics world. The games will likely, look like high end PC games of today. 1080p @60FPS with DX11 effects. It takes some powerful hardware today to make that happpen on the most demanding games. Sony probably already has licensed and is working on the PS4 GPU so it will likely be a mid-range part when it arrives. So maybe equivalent to a high-end card of today?
That's my prediction.

Welcome to the real world where everything looks like sh!t when compared with adverts and stuff.
Don't believe anything Sony says. They will say anything to sell the PS4. Full of lies.
I don't think this boats gonna stay a float , not with a launch price of seven hundred ninty nine us dollars!

Sorry, no. 60fps will always be >>>>> 30 FPS.
Is 30 fps acceptable in some games, absolutley. Is it better than 60 FPS. No fing way.

Inside the Digital Foundry once again examined the pure pixel count of WipEout HD. What they found is interesting. The game does, for the most part, run in full 1080p. However, when the action becomes too intense, the game will downscale the resolution. It appears the PS3 figures out exactly what resolution the game needs to run at frame-by-frame to ensure the game's 60fps count is never broken. "Rather than introduce dropped frames, slow down or other unsavoury effects, the number of pixels being rendered drops and the PS3's horizontal hardware scaler is invoked to make up the difference. It's an intriguing solution that works with limited impact on the overall look of the game" It appears the lowest resolution WipEout can render in is 1280x1080, which is still a 50% increase over 720p. The end result is something gamers, regardless of their AV tech knowledge, can truly appreciate. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/29/how-wipeout-maintains-60fps-and-1080p/ Actually Wipeout runs at 1080p 60 FPS,when the action get tense it drop to 1280 x 1080 which still is abode 720p,Wipeout still to this day one of the most great looking games on PS3,and considering it never drops form 60FPS at higher than 720p i think is quite an achievement, most mutiplatform developers don't care for performance all they care is having a good enough playable version. I think sony can invest on a much better GPU this time around, there is not Cell, there is no expensive XDR,there is not expensive Blu-ray (because is cheaper now),and there is no over priced Nvidia RSX like GPU.People need to use some basic logic. You do understand you're really missing the point.
Supporting 4k resolution output is not the same as actually rendering games in it. My PC supports 4k output but it would die if I tried to run Crysis on it.
I don't like the source (yahoo), but I saw it elsewhere as well. I don't believe it to be true; with the stupid speculation before the PS3 launch like you mentioned AND the Vita launch, I call BS as well.http://news.yahoo.com/sony-playstation-4-support-4k-resolution-161003188.html
