@SolidGame_basic: If you have disc based games, it's really $780.
Not if you're upgrading from a PS5 Slim. You can swap in your disc drive.

@ghostofgolden: I guess it means a smaller percentage of people care about more powerful hardware. I guess that tracks if you look at the Steam Hardware charts, and how many people purchased a Switch, or the percentage of Series S vs Series X. I wonder if it was a similar story with the Xbox One X?
It's not even that much more powerful. Most of the gains in framerates are due to them finally using super sampling. I do appreciate the focus on framerates here. The last two generations of consoles have been a disappointment in that regard, with everything being focused on faux 4k while running at 30fps. An $800 console? Really?
At this price you can get a 7900XT or a 4070ti
I agree that consoles falling back on 30fps has been disappointing. Cerny even stated that 75% of PS5 users are picking performance mode over fidelity. I feel like that information should have been used to design the PS6 down the road instead of launching the PS5 Pro with “meh” upgrades to hit an unpopular $700 price point.
I thought 2020 was an awkward time to launch console hardware. PS5 Pro feels even worse. And $700 might seem steep, but if Trump wins in November, watch out. Tariffs and tech don’t mix

I agree with your stance, but disagree with using the Steam hardware survey. I hate that the use of a voluntary, random survey is so widely used to determine hardware market performance. But it’s all we have, so whatever.
The “Pro” consoles will always be niche products. I honestly didn’t expect the PS4 Pro to be anywhere near 13%. I would have guessed half that. Maybe less.
I did not expect $700 as a base price with no disk drive. That's insane in this market. I expect Sony doesn't expect to sell many so there's a healthy margin in there.
I wonder if this will push MS to actually make use of the ML in the Series X/S to produce an AI upscaler
A little more than I expected without a disc drive, but the 2tb ssd is nice. I'll be getting one if for nothing more than to keep framerates up and stop slowdown and lag on multiplayer games online.
@ghostofgolden: I'm a bit surprised too, but only because I read it was 1 in 5 PS4s were Pro. I guess it's less than that which makes sense especially with how many people are still fine with gaming at 30fps 1080.
The steam hardware survey isn't perfect but it's probably reasonable to expect that the performance breakdown is similar with few people on the high end.
Ps5 pro is a milking of epic perportion.... But to each their own.
Always interested to hear about new games... Hopefully all pc releases too so Devs get paid.
As a self proclaimed PC advocate, that's an incredible stupid and hypocritical statement. Reflect on why and do better. smh
I don't think you know what you're talking about. Especially in the face of a bloated 700 dollar milking on the horizon... Wake up

You can build an entire system that trounces the PS5 Pro for only 400 more.

Combine this with this mobo/cpu/ram bundle from newegg(https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4715638&cm_mmc=EMC-ignefl091024-_-EMC-091024-Index-_-GamingDT-_-Top-_-E1A-_-&rec_value=-_--_--_--_--_-_1_AutomationEmail___Top40-_-Pers_emailAutomationEmail-_--_-&cvtc=8972826) or a bundle from Microcenter and now you're looking at around $1125 before taxes.
This can do over double the framerate of a PS5 with DLSS/upscaling instead of just a 45% boost. The PS5 pro will require upscaling to achieve what a 4070 Super can do on its own without upscaling, and on top of that, it's not just limited to media and gaming--you can do everything productivity wise that you'd ever want to with it as well.
Umm at $700 plus $80 for disc and another $50 for the stand, you are firmly in gaming pc territory. And since all Playstation games are on pc anyways...
@DragonfireXZ95: "You can build an entire system that trounces the PS5 Pro for only 400 more."
Lol. "For only 50 percent more, you can build a computer that is better than this console!"
You guys gotta stop comparing PC price points to consoles. Consoles will always win this value prop in the short term -- even when you include subscriptions like ps plus or gamepass -- consoles still come out on top for the value per dollar. PC is superior when you consider the entire picture, but it also comes at an extra cost that is worth it to you. This is the argument I think you're trying to make.
A better comparison would be a prebuilt from a system integrator or something of the sort. You also can't assume someone has PC hardware or even software (an operating system?) laying around ready to use.
So, I also have to ask where the rage is over the disk drive... Seemed perfectly reasonable that Microsoft would offer a similar solution were they to do a disk less console "upgrade". I feel like we should be acting like the sky is falling the way we were months ago during the Xbox leaks..
"Sony is abandoning physical media" would be the name of the thread, no?
Uh oh. It's here. Time to give the Series consoles the proper burying they deserve. RIP to all the Playstation haters on the board who are gonna be choking on their own salt build-up soon 🤣
Oh snap!!
This aged well... 😂🤣😂🤣

i was wondering the same..
but we both know why there is a sudden lack of "concern"..

Its crazy how passive everyone got about it... It's now a "just buy the disk drive and shut up man" type of thing.
The comments on the presentation video are absolutely brutal.... Like, Concord brutal.

After 4 years of paying for online play, it's already more expensive than that PC build and it's weaker. How is that better value per dollar?
Of course the PS5 pro will be a better value for some people, but the PC is not only better with games, but it's a productive workhorse as well. For someone that would utilize any sort of productivity tasks, it's a way better value even before the price of online play comes into the picture.
Figured I covered that by saying, "and on top of that, it's not just limited to media and gaming--you can do everything productivity wise that you'd ever want to with it as well."
Not sure if it's been mentioned but, it's a 2TB console; the 2TB Series X is $599 while the PS5 Pro is $699.

Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more
Series X has a disc drive, Ps5 Pro doesn't. You have to add 80$ for an external disc drive. Sorry but this is bad no matter how you spin it!!
Series X also has a stand, PS5 Pro doesn't. Add another $20.00.
PS5 Pro ( as a Slim too ) does have a stand. Otherwise how they would be in horizontal position?

d'uh all the sony fans have a spare disk drive lying around.
Sony just murdered Europe 💀
Is this a joke pic? "Vertical Stand sold separately" I lol'd. XD
For £700 they can't throw in a stand which probably costs them £5 to make.

Yeah I could somewhat understand this cost cutting (as before consoles came with games packed in, and I think until the PS1 consoles came with two controllers packed in, not one) if you're trying to keep costs as low as possible.
But I feel Sony is acting from a position of power.
They had to keep the cost of the original PS5 low to compete with Xbox. But now that they have beaten Xbox (or at least its upper management) this gen i feel Sony is operating in a monopoly and is pricing this at whatever pops in their mind.
What gpu and cpu is it using? I think it would be a radeon 7700xt or similar. You can buy a 7800xt or 7900xt and build a cheaper pc than what the ps5 pro will sell for.

Same CPU as base PS5 from what info is available right now, maybe clocked a bit higher.
Which means 30fps will be right around the corner in no time again

lol, this is milking on a WHOLE new level, the balls you'd have to have to anounce this shit during a cost of living crisis, the ridiculousness is funny.
£700 console and a £100 disc drive that you can only use for what Sony allows (closed platform), £70+ games, and whatever the PSN prices are these days...
And on the bottom of that pricing pic, it says "Vertical Stand sold separately". XD
@R4gn4r0k: the cpu is fine in my opinion. It's not like the old jaguar cores in xbox one and ps4...which were ass. The gpu is much more the limiting factor this time around.
Anyhow, this release was boring as heck.

I don't think slightly higher clocks will do much for gaming. I watched a video on YouTube about the R5 7600 vs the R5 7600X, and the clock difference is quite a bit bigger, but in games, it's only a few frames better most of the time.

It is funny how Sony fannies were claiming MS was abandoning disc but here we have the PS5 Pro with no disc drive.
@R4gn4r0k: that's just pathetic...they had to go the extra mile to milk their fanbase, even dinging them for a cheap plastic holder.
I think you could 3d print a stand and call it a night.
@HalcyonScarlet: the main, literally the main thing holding gaming back at the moment is lack of optimization.
I never turn on Ray tracing in my games, but when I do I lose about 50-100 frames, it's just not worth it.
Enter Avatar and Star Wars Outlaws running on Snowdrop engine: suddenly we get this advanced engine that works well and the drop in frames here is around 10-15 a second, which is a stark difference.
So devs will use the PS5 pro as an excuse that "it can do resolutions and framerates the current line of consoles can't handle"
but then a few years later we're back at 30 and we're hearing about a PS6 to solve this very same issue (just like e had with the previous two console releases)
I'm not wanting to call developers lazy. But I see many games running incredibly well with far less power. And unoptimized games just requiring all that power for ... taking shortcuts I guess.

I felt the CPU is fine as well, it is a 8-core 16-thread after all. But just like everything it'll be used as an excuse or reason to not do 60fps:
In order to put into perspective just how weak current-gen console CPUs are, even a very low-end 4-core/8-thread Core i3-13100F pulls ahead of the Ryzen 5 3600 in this game, which in turn is slightly faster than the neutered Zen2 console CPUs.

We have a winner. What makes this more annoying is that we legitimately have tech like mesh shaders, variable rate shading and sampler feedback but none of these optimizations are used.
The lack of optimization is most likely linked to high budgets and rushed timelines.

I agree. The problem now is, the PS5 Pro will extend this gen too much. Because how are they going to design a PS6 vastly more powerful than the Pro, at a £500 price tag. This gen is probably going to have to go to nearly 2030 for this to balance out.
And some might say "well now a new gen isn't needed", but it is, because we need the base console to be more powerful, that's the standard the games are built to.
