[QUOTE="mr_blobby213"]Why do people even bother with IGN anymore? mr_blobby213

Because everyone wants assurance that whatever stupid game they bought is indeed the best game ever created.

They can't make that up for themselves? What is this world coming to.....

How is using gamespot any different?

Because GameSpot reviews are generally a lot more restrained than IGN's.

Because they're superior to Gamespot in terms of coverage; from games moives/shows and hardware.

IGN. Jeez. Videogaming for morons.

Jabby250

implying that gamespot is any better? xD

but it has da forums

The forums are pretty bad too though. Kevin VanOrd's reviews are the only worthwhile thing I'd recommend here.

They're bad since the new rules took place :)

Look i love skyrim and I think it is a much better game than Amalur, but to say its combat is better is laughable. You should look at the combos and moves available for amalur, as opposed to spamming 1 button in skyrim.

Kingdom of Amelurs Archery was a joke in comparison to Skyrims (which did archery relatively well and has satisfying skills that harness the action). One thing I liked about Amelur was how the Wolves and Bears I fought in the demo behaved.

I could even stand the demo for more than 20 minutes, the game is very amateur looking and playing

It is just a extremely low quality game in almost every way

Skyrim is infinitly better overall, it be a bit boring in combat, but Amalur combat is nothing so special either

Someone's upset that Skyrim's combat is still as bad as Oblivion's, and Reckoning's destroyed it. :)

That demo was so painfully awful. I only managed to get to the first spider, and then I stopped. The combat was incredibly simplistic in nature, with mashing of the square button getting me through just about every battle. The camera controls felt clunky and were a major hinderance. The level design consisted of straightforward corridors with little branches that would sometimes hold an item. The graphics looked extremely dated. The facial animations when talking with an NPC were extremely inanimate. They talk as if they have no muscles in their face. Nothing about it was impressive. It's the same old flashy combat with minimal player input. It's a hack 'n' slash with RPG elements thrown in. I've grown tired of such games, and I don't see why I'd pay this one any mind when there's plenty of better ones out there, anyway.

Like? No, really. Of what I played of the demo, it wasn't anything amazing (but it was only a demo). However, it still seemed of much higher quality than most other attempts of the genre.

What a downright moronic comparison from IGN. First off, KoA and Demon's/Dark Souls (I'll just refer to them as "Dark Souls") took completely different approaches to combat, and it's pretty ignorant to say one is better than the other. Dark Souls went for a realistic approach to combat where your movements and attacks have weight, where your character grows tired, etc. KoA is all about fast paced arcadey action in the same vein as Ninja Gaiden, albiet not as fluid. It's not a matter of which is better but which do you prefer. Luckily for me I love both combat systems and will play the s*** out of KoA when it releases.

Second, Skyrim's combat system resides on the lower end of the "garbage" spectrum so KoA's combat being better is not saying much. Stupid IGN...

I loved the demo personaly. The combination of open world RPG with fluid hack 'n slash combat is brilliant in my opinion, and judging by the demo it seems the developers pulled it off incredibly well. Of course being that it's a demo we really can't judge the simplicity of the combat yet. It's very possible that later on enemies will become far more aggresive and you wont be able to simply button mash your way through fights ala God of War. It's possible that the combat could become much deeper.

My only problem with it was the camera which seemed kind of crappy to be honest. Far too often it did whatever the hell it wanted and threw me off. Hopefully it gets improved. Other than that I see a lot of potential here and it's certainly a day one buy for me.

I'm not sure I quite understand what you are trying to say

That the game is one of the worst games ever made of course

Obviously they tried to do too much and ended up doing too much of a terrible thing than less of a better one

Why do I get the feeling that you're only hating on KoA because some retarded IGN editor made a comparison to Dark Souls? It is possible to enjoy both games you know. Just ignore that moronic site. They never have anything of worth to say.

Got this preordered, cannot wait to try it!

I was not a bgi fan of the demo but then again... who plays demos of rpgs? I mean seriously lol.

Plenty of games I did not like the demos but liked the final game (Blue Dragon, Anno2070,etc..)

The only thing I really liked in the demo was the fantastic combat (imo stroys skyrim and demon souls combat). The story and characters I am a bit worried about but we shall see how they are in teh final version.

viewing the steam forums, and I have to agree this game feels mmoish.

The combat is fair at best, people comparing this to God of war and bayonetta, I'm just not seeing it. It doesn't have the smoothness of darksouls either.

One huge complaint I have is the camera just sucks, there is no way to zoom it out. It seems the FOV settings are set for consoles in mind.

The graphics remind me of W.O.W also, not a huge plus for me.

I think I'm gonna pass unless the final product is much better... by comparisson two worlds 2 smokes this.

You guys really need to take in the scope that the demo is a 3 month old build, done by a third party dev. And then don't forget basing a entire OPEN WORLD RPG off of a DEMO that shows you the tutorial is pretty damn foolish. Imagine having a demo of Skyrim, but more buggy and broken and basing the entire game off of that. You really can't.

I hate generic MMOs with a passion, that is probably why i will never touch this game, the combat was not that bad, but was nothing special either and the overall game felt terrible imo

I played the game, it is laughable really, its design is one of the worst i have ever seen in gaming

But i hate generic MMOs, others may like that horrible generic style that your only purpose is to level up and do random generic quests in a terrible looking flat environment that makes zero sense and has zero design

Dark Souls is the best. Reckoning (I had high hopes for) does nothing for me. I was very disappointed in nearly every aspect of Reckoning but will wait for the final to make up my mind (via rental).

When i first played the demo, i wanted to like it so bad. Anyone who knows me knows that i LOVE WRPGs. I found the camera a bit of a pain, and the graphics werent that good. Its too Fable-y, while the tone is more hardcore. Its like the lighting and graphics dont fit the tone of the game. After playing it for a bit, though, i learned to love it, especially when i got the hang of the controls and systems. ill watch a few more vids before deciding if i want it day one, but it has definitely made its mark on me. I just wish they chose more of a Gothic-style art direction. It seems a little off, and hard to get seriously immersed in the game like i am with skyrim.

It's not exactly some huge accomplishment to be better than Skyrim in this category.

And Dark Soul's combat destroys this game.I was able to get through the demo by simply mashing the attack button, try that in Dark Souls and watch how fast you see the "you died" screen.

But with that said, the KoA demo was kinda fun in that instant gratification sort of way (reminded me of Fable but with more RPG elements)

And done by a third party dev :)

That explains why it was so glitchy.

Yep EA had insisted while Curt and the rest of 38 really fought against it. In the end it's hard to say if it was for better or not, Curt seems to think it was.

How people can defend Skyrim's combat so easily is beyond me.

[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"] So what are your expectations based on? The advertising?

Ringx55

Every single article, video, interview, demonstration, coverage out on the internet. Just look at IGN and Penny Arcade, they're loving it.

None of that is more solid evidence than playing the game for yourself. I don't care if the demo was by a third party, 3 month old build, whatever. It's still the same game.

Skyrim's combat is average in some areas, and terrible in others. Dark soul's is GOOD all-around. Will reckoning be better than both.. I hope so.
