I can understand that you agree they have larger issues of failure. However, I am saying that there were ways they could have fixed it, and not hosed so many people, and I also took offense that once I said the 360 had issues, even real ones, I was labeled as a fanboy, when if anything, I would be a fanboy for the 360.
hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20...
maybe you should design your own console...after all it sounds easy enough to ensure one is made w/o problems..
who cares the 360 has 1,700 parts in it.... right...?
you do realize a lot of the 360's probs were caused by the dvd drive and NOT heat issues right...?
You do realize that the DVD drive issues produced the disc scratching, not the Red Rings, right? If you don't know what issue causes what effect, you should not try to correct someone.
And no, I would not design a console. That is what I pay MS, Sony, and Nintendo for. I would just think that MS, being one of the richest companies in the world, could pay people to design a system that did not have as many flaws. Sony seems to have nailed it with the PS3, and Nintendo's systems have always been rather solid.
[QUOTE="TekkenMaster606"]I don't doubt it. But after this, will the Xbox 360 produce another game that sells more than this?Baird-06
Very doubtful. Halo is really popular among the casuals and I don't think any other Xbox 360 title will have the same appeal as Halo has. That is unless Bungie decides to go ahead with Halo 4 with a different story arc. ;)
Â
If Halo 4 isn't held over for the launch of the next Xbox, I'll be surprised.Â

They initially said the failure rate was acceptable at 3%. Now they have said it is only 5%, well below what they consider acceptable.
They have never formally admitted flaws in the system, they just extended the warranty in response to complaints of failure. People who dissect 360s are the ones who found most of what the issues are.Â
I don't doubt it. But after this, will the Xbox 360 produce another game that sells more than this?TekkenMaster606
I do, I mean... Pokemon only had 500,000 pre-orders and wasent there an article with nintendo talking about that being a huge ammount?
Not to mention, that many people dont really pre-order games... thats 2/5 people with a 360 pre-ordering.. thats seems far-fetched, I'd bet that might be an estimate or somthing, and that Halo 3 will probably sell about 4 million (or it's estimated to) it's first year, or month or whatever...
If it's true (which, again, I doubt) MS wouldent be all that crazy to predit sales of over 6 million the first week, which is 3/5 of 360 owners... I really dont see any game (ever, on anything) reaching that many people.
I mean, dosent gears, with it's slightly over 2/5 individual attach rate one of the highest attach rate games ever?Â

1. movement of the console during operation was responsible for many, many scratched disks..
2. the Red Rings are the indicator of a faulty dvd drive.... one red light, non blinking, is a disk drive problem.
3. it seems you have all the answers that ms supposedly doesn't have, so go make your own... I'm sorry, but no amount of money will ever make 100% flawless tech.. too many variables...
4. simply becuase sony is silent doesn't mean the ps3 is not breaking down.. if you remember sony was silent the entire time the ps2's were breaking down and only admitted a problem when FORCED to do so via lawsuits.. to use sony's silence as proof of no problems is the funniest thing i've read all day....:lol;

1. Some, not all. There were issues with the DVD drives causing scratches, especially the first wave of systems.
2. That is one red light. The Red Ring of Death is:
3. I understand no tech is 100%, but when there is a known issue, hardware manufacturers are supposed to fix it. Even Sony started using metal tracks in its optical drives after the PS2 disc read failures.
4. My statement has nothing to do with Sony saying anything, as I think expecting any company to admit their failures is a funny way of finding out a problem. I am basing the PS3 being solid on the relatively quiet blog-sphere, especially among actual gaming journalists. I know that there are some, but far less than there was about the 360.Â

1. you have no idea how many were caused by user error but feel safe in blaming MS for the disk scratching....nice...
2. okaaaaaaaaaaaaay....  ?
3. MS is fixing the issue and fixing consoles... unless you have some "inside info" that says ms is ignoring it...
4. you do realize sony has been caught creating ficticious blogs right...? blogs are NOT an accurate source of info as you don't know the motivation behind it, nor the level of integrity.  I won't even address the fact hardly anyone even owns a PS3.. sony still hasn't claimed 2 million worldwide.  Admitting problems is the respectable way to go. It's called be forthright... MS has it; sony does not.
so, in paraphrase;
you're using blogs and forum posts as a measure of the 360's reliability. Â
for such a intelligent writer, i'd thought you'd be smarter than that...

Ok, sorry man. I'm not doubting you, but your original criticism came off as fanboyish.
I apologize. I was kind joking around with the hari-kari thing, and I took the "fanboy" response way too seriously, and I didn't read thoroughly. I apologize for flying off the handle!
I think the problem he had and myself had is you turned a thread about halo 3 presales and hijacked it making posts about 360s failure rates. It rubs people the wrong way when you do things like that, even if unintentional2. See how the Red Ring of Death is not the DVD drive errors?
3. If MS was fixing the issue, why would the Elite still have the same hardware setup? Why would MS not take the redesign as an opportunity to fix the issue? Instead, they left it the same, and just added more epoxy to the MOBO, more or less masking the problem. It would be like using duct tape to fix a broken window. It'll work, for a bit.
4. Wow. Now you are trying to say that Sony fakes journalist's blogs? That's new to me.
As for integrity, no company in the world really has it anymore. Every customer is $$$ to them, and you would be foolish to think otherwise. Companies don't admit flaws. Really, they don't. Why do you think you didn't hear MS admitting the XBL breach, any flaws in Windows, the fact that Internet Explorer for years has been the least secure browser out. Why has the EU fined MS millions for anti-trust violations?
If you think companies are looking out for you, and that they actually care about you, you are very naive.
Having said that, arguing with you, while time-passing, is utterly worthless. Good day.

But it's not like Sony came up with that idea. They just handed a buttload of cash to some firm on Madison Avenue and those hipster advertising types came up with it. Â

it's best to move on.  go ahead and keep getting your facts from blogs... brilliant strategy..

I thought it was the machine code from the old " Hard Hat Mack EA " in 1980's - lol ;)If this rumor is true, then you are basically talking about people who already have a 360. Why would someone who doesn't have a 360 go out and preorder Halo 3? Thus, the 4 million is a huge number, but it doesn't reflect the impact of Halo 3 as a system seller.Â

I am not sure about the truth to this. It seems, at once, plausible, and far-fetched. However, I could see people putting down the $10 to reserve a copy without owning a 360 yet. Whether those are real orders, or just someone that is going to cancel it later is what would be important to MS at this stage.Â

that's actually pretty impresive. We're still only talking about pre-orders for a game that is still months away and it will only increase as time goes on.

Industry bloggers. What part of that don't you get? Are you trying to say that people who work at GameSpot or IGN have no access to any data or news? Then why would we come to this site?
Case in point, in US politics, who are you more likely to believe, Lou Dobbs in his blog, or Tony Snow, White House PR? I am going to believe Lou before I would believe the PR rep.
And I am not saying that is the only place I get news from, as you seem to believe. I get news from all over, and I also make my own opinions based on many sources, and personal experience. You really do only read what you want to read, and not what is written.
