I'd say it will probably sell about 1 million consoles.

eddy_of_york

I have 3 friends who won't buy a 360 until Halo 3 comes out...

Don't underestimate the ridiculous love for this overrated franchise...4 million preorders, and there are only 10 million Xbox 360s.

Oh and for the people claiming Halo 3 won't sell consoles, I know at least 50 people that will buy a 360 once Halo 3 comes out. Like MS has stated in the past, the majority of 360 owners are not XBOX owners, meaning you still have millions, upon millions out there waiting, not only on games like GTA IV and Halo 3, but price drops, which are surely coming this year. This will be one of the biggest years in gaming history when it comes to sales IMO. The Wii and 360 will lead the way when it comes to console sales, but the 360 will dwarf any and every one when it comes to software sales. eastside49er

Exaggerate much?

No. I work with a lot of people, who are gamers, but have yet to take the next gen plunge, mainly because of the pricing. The majority of them are PS2 owners, but will admit that the 360 is the system they will get this holiday because of two things. They believe a price drop is coming and Halo 3. Lost Odyssey is another game they talk about all the time.

If this rumor is true, then you are basically talking about people who already have a 360.  Why would someone who doesn't have a 360 go out and preorder Halo 3?  Thus, the 4 million is a huge number, but it doesn't reflect the impact of Halo 3 as a system seller.

REVENGEotSITH

Because their are many very casual lemmings who only want to play this game and nothing else period!  One of my friends only played Halo 2 and NOTHING ELSE!  Is it silly?  Yes.  I'm sure there are many lemmings who say this to themselves..."I won't buy a 360 until I see teh Master Chief in action again!" There are many that are soooo obsessed with this franchise, that no other game satisfies them, because the only thing on their minds is Halo 3!"  Think I'm exaggerating?  Watch what happens when this game is released...I bet there will be riots and maybe a shooting or two, same with what happened to PS3 launch, but on a bigger scale.  The blind obsession will get the best of some people, and chaos will insue!

Seems odd, I only hear people talking about real systems like the Wii. And I hear a lot about Ps2 games and such.  And lots of Ps3 games get mentioned as well, but never really 360. Maybe Halo once was mentioned, but every 360 fan I've met is a ig a-hole in real life. They believe that their system is superior no matter what. It's just a game and game system.

Halo is not the end all be all game, that will never be reached. So stop hyping it or it'll fall way below your expectations. It's just a game.

So, this kinda proves my point I made in a thread awhile back that people are holding out on the 360 because Halo 3 is not out yet.  Amazing!  So, GeOW, PGR3, Lost Planet, C&C3, Oblivion, Forza 2 isn't enough to convince the Halo obsessed to take the plunge and buy a 360?  I guess there really are lemmings who WILL ONLY PLAY HALO AND NOTHING ELSE.  Wow....

That's not surprising, Halo 2 had a record amount of pre-orders, I don't see why Halo 3 would be any different. I need to pre-order my copy.

Sort of. A lot of the guys I work with are RPG fans so they not only plan on getting Halo 3 and a 360 this holiday, but they also want Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, etc. Of course the Halo 3 talk is weird. It is like they are getting it because of the hype and like some have already said in this thread, hype rules every thing. If this news turns out to be true, then it will only strengthen Halo 3 and 360 sales this holiday because people will want to get what might be a hard product to get. Sort of like with the Wii right now. A lot of people want it mainly because it is hard to get and it is the hot/hyped item.

NOTHING can be as horrible as the PS3 release, people died (not only that, but for a console that is so far floundering).  Very sad.

I'd be willing to bet half of those preorders are non 360 owners and are people waiting for the game to come out, much like what happened with Halo 2. I remember getting Halo 2 on launch night and I'd say the majority of people not only walked out with Halo 2, but with an XBOX as well.

Considering only 8.6 million bought Halo 2, yet there are about 25 million XBOXs WW, I'd say yes.

I have a hard time believing that.  That seems too high considering that would be 40% of the 360 userbase and it's not even released yet.

I don't doubt it.  When I was in Game Stop buying Crackdown back in February, the clerk told me their company already had nearly 4 million preorders of Halo 3.

this is totaly bogus... First it's acording to gamestop... and only gamestop... so unless all the preorders were at gamestops... which i have a hard time believeing... they are way over estimating... second they fact checked this buy calling 5 gamestop (and EB's ) around one city to see what they said... They all said the same thing... but had not been given any company document that said this... Basicaly it's just what the empolyes at Gamestops think... and they are seldom correct.

Clearly clerks that work at Gamestop know everything there is to know about how many preorders their are... I don't think the company sends that information to them... there is no possiblity that they are just hypeing it to get you to bite and preorder as well.... none at all.

Its just stupid to assume that the company wouldn't keep track of how many pre-orders have been placed.

Yea, or how else would they know how many they needed allocated to each store?Â
