Saints Row Review/anti-Hype thread [6 from GS]

This game's going about as well as most expected. Reviews all over the place for a game that barely looks last gen. Volition wanted to push on with it anyway, and I have a feeling that the Saints won't be seen again for a looong time.

This is one of those games I don't see a lot of people touching unless it drops on a sub service. I don't know

Time for Lems to admit Series X isn't what they thought it was as this is probably the most impressive looking multiplat on the market atm.

Was never really interested in this game myself. Only played one of the games, the third one, and thought it was an ok funny game. Not really a franchise that I was all that interested in overall though.

The hell it is, this game looks last gen. Also, according to your video the games run nearly identical with PS5 having a tiny advantage at 1440p RTAO and Series X having a tiny advantage at 4k.

While the main character is a self-described murder machine, the rest of your friends are well-rounded and avoid falling into a pitfall of homicidal archetypes. The perpetually shirtless Kev, for instance, is obsessed with food and music, regularly talking about the kitchen appliances he hopes to buy when not busy DJing a party. Neena, on the other hand, is a mechanic who loves restoring classic cars but also has an appreciation for art and an interest in gallery curation. Then there's Eli, the strategist and aspirational entrepreneur of the group. He's averse to violence but spends his off-hours LARPing in the desert and shooting like-minded individuals with foam bullets.

Enjoyed SR 2/3 when they came out but I feel the demand for this series has come and gone. this is pretty much as expected, doubt this sells well

That's a shame. Enjoyed SR3 and 4.

I wasn't going to buy it at launch even if it wasn't EGS exclusive, because while I detected the old Saints Row DNA in this game, I also saw some things that were concerning. Seems my worries were well-founded.

That's just one character, and it's supposed to be a joke. Your actual character goes on massive murder sprees. The review you just quoted mentioned those characters were one of the only decent things about this trash game.

Just an honest question here: why do so many devs feel the need to go politically correct, and why can't they just make a good game that's you know... actually fun to play?

@sargentd: I'm with @zaryia here. Those characters sound weird and excentric, but not political. Maybe other parts of the game are, but what's described in your post isn't far off from Pierce (the fashionista) or Kinzie (the sexually agressive tech girl) in the old games.

What are politically correct characters? Why are you connecting good games that a fun to play to these characters?

The review ITT said the characters were the only decent part of the game. And I don't see any mentions of politics anywhere. I don't see the politics angle as to why the game has bad gameplay. It seems like people are injecting politics into anything they dislike these days.

I have not played any Saints Row games.

You know, strangely enough, this game reminds me of 343i. IF MS allows another studio developing the next Halo game, and 343i can make their own game, THIS IS EXACTLY the kind of games i would expect from them. Zoomer/hipster shitfest with extremely poorly written everything.

Seriously I was pretty neutral on GTAV characters, pretty good, nothing amazing. But after seeing these characters. Maybe GTA5 really is the masterpiece of all crime open world.

The trailer of the Saints Row reboot shows a new cast of characters that resemble that of a shitty Netflix original TV show with your typical strong black female lead paired with another soy munching latina woman and your trope gay white male side-character and obligatory Asian character.
