What do you thing about it?

I think consoles will just ultimately revert back into being like computers more than anything. They'll be closed systems like laptops and phones are, with either limited to no upgradability beyond the OS and perhaps mass storage device. We might still have handheld consoles, but even then they are more likely to be killed off by phones than normal TV console systems. My main hope is too see a larger variance in OSs and computing architectures, beyond ARM, x86, Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
Link fixed.
And a little help to 10 years old players who doesn't know who Scott Miller is: "Miller started as game programmer, but now handles primary business duties of 3D Realms, as well as producing and co-designing all third-party games associated with the company, including Wolfenstein 3D, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Terminal Velocity, Max Payne and Prey."
And before saying anything, just watch the video. His vision on the future of consoles is very plausible. ;)

when attempting to bash a system or consoles in general you should think your statements through.

Yeah maybe 2 generations from now. That is actually realistic. Or maybe we'll make the switch to DD only. I dont see everyone taking that route tho.

It's called sarcasm, not really a big deal.it doesn't make sense though, I know developers that have been around longer than him.
alright though, I'll drop it.
I'm 33 and I didn't know who Scott Miller was... ??? so fricken what? Am I supposed to know the first and last names of everyone who has worked on every game? In order to be "teh mature gamer"?
I'm 30 and I'm thinking the same thing. He works for 3d Realms, so? Isn't that the grossly incompetent company that spent more than a decade developing Duke Nukem Forever? The game that had to be salvaged by Take Two to ever see the light of day? I wouldn't brag about that at this point if I was him.I'm 33 and I didn't know who Scott Miller was... ??? so fricken what? Two generations from now could be anything from 15-20 years. So yes, it is quite plausible there will be no more consoles. Nothing special about this prediction folks, move right along.

I was assuming that we still go by the 5/6 year cycle. Which it seems like we're still following.

Quite possibly. But let's say the next Xbox comes out in 2013. That's an 8 year life cycle, and if the console after that (if there is one) lasts a similar length, I do think 15 years is a fairly accurate prediction.
He does make some good points, that we have heard before from all over the industry. So If the Industry all seems to have this idea, then ofcourse it Will happen, because... you know they are the industry.
What he as talking about in the interview (for those too lazy to click the link) Is that the consoles themselves will vanish, not the console gaming. Basicly cloud gaming, kind of like Onlive just integrated into TV's The reasonings he gave was from an industry standpoint, and those were very sound, and very interesting.

One thing that is important to remember is the big three aren't going to just "let" consoles die. If it's profitable (which consoles are) the companies will be fighting to keep them, so consoles may stick around longer if only because the big three try to make as much as possible from their established brands. It's not like Sony and Microsoft are going to shutdown the Playstation and Xbox brands one day because "the future is here".
