MASTER THE ART OF WAR TO BECOME THE UNDISPUTED RULER OF MEDIEVAL JAPAN

In 2000, the Creative Assembly re-invented the strategy genre with Shogun: Total War, an unprecedented blend of 3D real-time battles and turn-based management game and the first offering in the multi-award winning series. With over 7 million units sold and universal acclaim from the press and community, Total War has consistently been at the cutting edge of the genre and is today one of the most successful PC franchises of all time.

In 2011, the makers of Rome and Empire: Total War will release the sequel to the game that started it all. Shogun 2: Total War will take long-time veterans and newcomers alike to the next level of strategy gaming on PC. Based on 10 years of experience in making Total War, Shogun 2 is the perfection of the series with a new Artificial Intelligence (AI), revolutionary multiplayer modes, brand new campaign map options and epic 3D real-time battles.

It is the middle of the 16th century in Medieval Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. The player takes on the role of one Daimyo – the clan leader – and will use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun – the undisputed ruler of Japan.

Set during the golden age of Samurai warfare, Shogun 2 brings to life the most turbulent period of Japanese history.

feat

Total War redefined:

Shogun 2 is the ultimate refinement of the original formula with a new, cutting-edge AI, more polish and online functionality than ever before. The result is the perfect mix of real-time and turn-based strategy gaming that invites both veterans of Total War and new players to experience the enjoyment and depth of the series.

New character progression:

Choose from 9 different clans and compete on and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan. Gain experience to level up your own character-warlord as well as your generals and agents.

A complete single and multiplayer offering:

Play through the Main Campaign in single player or invite a friend online to play competitively or cooperatively in Campaign Multiplayer mode. Join 8-player multiplayer battles with your own upgradable avatar and climb the online Leaderboard to show the world who reigns supreme. Also including exciting new modes of team play for clans, a first in the Total War series.

New Generation AI system:

Developed according to Sun Tzu's principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyses its situation and reacts to your every move with greater precision and variety.

Improved land and naval battle gameplay:

Land battles never felt so realistic with new multi-staged castle sieges and terrain features changing according to the weather and time of the day - turning each engagement into a tactical challenge. Set buildings on fire to force garrisoned troops out and use your units' special abilities to turn the tide of the battle. Naval combat also offers more variety with the addition of coastal battles. Islands can work as effective cover for your ships, while sand bars and reefs can be used as traps against an enemy fleet.

Accessible and in-depth empire-building gameplay:

A streamlined User Interface makes management of your kingdom much easier. Build and govern cities, recruit and train troops, conduct diplomacy and manage your agents – each feature is now introduced with comprehensive tutorials, gradually revealing the depth of the Shogun 2 campaign map – the heart and soul of the Total War experience.

PC Gamer UK:92 Editor's Choice

Why did it get that score and the Editor's Choice award? Try improved AI that attacks from the sea and uses terrain to its advantage, an online clan system with excellent matchmaking that encourages teamworks between allies, and the artful realisation of the Sengoku period. We say that "Shogun 2 is the Total War series back on form," and that it "boasts the most outrageous hats in martial history".

Demo

Not Available.

This game is based on Japanese history and will make MASSIVE damage once released in March.

I'm saying AAA, but GS will probably give it an AA as they usually do, despite the TW series being seen by most gaming strategy fans as the premiere series. Cannot wait :D

Gamespot likes to give Total War 8.5, but who knows, this one may break the tradition.

New AI, improved gameplay mechanics, next-gen graphics and finally an interesting and persistent multiplayer mode. I don't see it scoring less than 9.0. ;)

Rome Scored 9.0. Anyways, I'm not holding my breath. All i see is pretty graphics. NEVER trust CA when they say they improved the AI, just remember Empire: Total War. And no mod tools is another slap in the face (there have never been mod tools, how ever, they were promised for Empire iirc, and Napoleon was promised a Uniform editor that was never heard of again.). And considereing theres only 9 factions all with the exact same units means once you play one, you played them all.

Oh, its going to score 8.5-9.0

This will be my first Total War game, I've wanted to get the first Shogun one but I would not have been able to run it well at the time, I think a demo or something proved me right, now I have a better comp. :P

Yeah might be a good idea, I was looking out for Total War deals during the Christmas sale, but didn't see any big ones, so I may just check this out. I was also interested in part in Shogun total war due to the era and location, so hopefully it turns out good.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he was saying ANYTHING about it being good because of it's graphics, dude. He just said he finds it weird Cry2 has a higher min reqired specs. No reason to flip out. Take a chill pill. lol

Looks like an AAAE. Only Rome 2 (or whatever it will be) is worthy of the AAAAE. 8)

This game is going to be awesome though.

Your need to show off your inability to process any kind of game that requires more intellectual input more than your average CoD title says a hell of a lot more about you than it does about an award winning and quite frankly, legendary PC strategy series.

I can't believe we're seeing that level of visuals in this type of game. I only hope the AI and strategy elements match it.

Lets be fair, IF....if the AI is as improved as they say, then you'll be right. But if we have another Empire on hand, the only tactic really is to form a line, and send the cavalry to the flank. Thats followed by a "Heroic Victory" result (seriously, one campaign, every battle was a "Heroic victory" excpet naval battles, as those just generally sucked). I hope the AI is actually Improved, that way they start to actaully start to add things back into the game.

Not sure if serious, but because the PC is a system, and its a game the PC has while consoles don't, making PC > consoles in terms of the system WARS. :?

Yeah AA or AAA seem like good choices depending on the state of the game on release. If it doesn't have any serious bugs, I can see it getting AAAE easily. But what the hell, I'll go out on a limb here and proclaim that Shogun: Total War will score an AAAAE!

That would totally destroy the purpose of hyping stuff. This is a big game for hermits, AAA hype, or all hermits GTFO of SW, banished forever.

i never said they were similar, i'm just while total war has a new skin each time they are fairly similar, and i think the series is just getting old shogun total war, medieval total war, rome total war, medieval 2 total war, napoleon total war, and now shogun 2 total war... did i miss any? so we are going to be up to 6 full releases, and numerous expansions, i want to start a new empire as much as i want to conquer the yellow turban rebellion again

new Dynasty Warriors? Is this a joke? The two series are nothign alike what so ever.
Total War is one of hte most original and epic series ever. There is NOTHING like it on consoles.

I have owned every single Total War game over the years and they are not the same thing over and over, they are each very unique games in there own right. One of best series ever imo, although nto for everyone just like ARMA2.. as they can have a hard learning curve for the casual gamers.

i never said they were similar, i'm just while total war has a new skin each time they are fairly similar, and i think the series is just getting old shogun total war, medieval total war, rome total war, medieval 2 total war, napoleon total war, and now shogun 2 total war... did i miss any? so we are going to be up to 6 full releases, and numerous expansions, i want to start a new empire as much as i want to conquer the yellow turban rebellion again

You're either joking around, or you've never played 2 Total War games before.

i see total war series as the new dynasty warriors, i'm sort of sick of them to be honest.

new Dynasty Warriors? Is this a joke? The two series are nothign alike what so ever.
Total War is one of hte most original and epic series ever. There is NOTHING like it on consoles.

I have owned every single Total War game over the years and they are not the same thing over and over, they are each very unique games in there own right. One of best series ever imo, although nto for everyone just like ARMA2.. as they can have a hard learning curve for the casual gamers.

they are all very similar, the core gameplay has been tweaked here and there with additions as you get further along the series but at the end of the day they bring the same experience over and over again, great for people who love it but its still a fairly exhausted experience and I don't see shogun 2 really changing that

The game is going to be awesome!!!!! I.If I had a good enough PC, I would get it for sure. I don't know what GS will give it but for me it will be AAA more likely then not.
