Ahh thanks that explains it.AA is confirmed off for the demo only. The full game will have ingame AA.

I'm guessing 8.5. Why can't CA give me Rome Total War 2!!! It's still the best in the series. HoolaHoopManIt'll probably come next.

I do have one major gripe with the game. Performance is awful yet again. Empire TW had the same problem. I am getting 22fps on the campaign map and havent checked the battle map. Such a shame that CA can't seem to optimize its games properly. There is something really wrong with the engine. Im hoping the demo is just an early build and the optimization is much better in the final build. Im not holding my breath though.

Something is wrong then, I have it Maxed (1920x1080) w/ everything enabled -AA as it was disabled in the demo.
I have a smooth framerate the campaign map is at a steady mid50s-60fps and battles I drop alittle into the 40s-50s, 60 if I stay up high.
I dropped once into the low 20s on the third manual battle but that was to be expected as allot was going on.
And you have a better Rig than I do. I'm running with an Q9550 @ 3.4 & GTX 570 stock.
Hmmm, I was getting some truly abysmal frame rates maxed out @ 1600x1050 with my phenom II x4 945 3.37 GHz and gtx 570. Low teens were not rare at the default(maxed) settings the game started me at.:(Second Review is Out:

I'm getting pumped.
Empire was quite ambitious but they missed the little things that were great about the series. Shogun 2 looks so much better, like they have improved every aspect of the game.
I cannot wait.
Also did anybody notice the humor in the CGI movies they have during gameplay? CA never takes their game to seriously. It's great.
I'm not a big fan of RTS games, but I really enjoyed the demo. Most likely getting it later on at some point. Luxen90Its not an RTS... Its a RTT/TBS hybrid. The differences to DUne2 clones are staggering...
The last few TW games have been AA and this one seems like a step up. Based on GS's preview impressions and the early reviews it looks like Shogun 2 should get AAA.
I really need to beat all my older TW games :P I bought most of them in a Steam deal a year or so ago, but have only gotten around to playing a few hours of Rome Total War, but it was good.
This new one looks really good.
Is this a jab at certain other PC games releasing right now :P On topic, this game will probably get an AA at best. The AI was virtually non-existant in the demo as every scenario in it was heavily scripted. There are pathing problems in the demo, and lack of mod tools will strip this game down more than Napoleon: Total War. Why does SEGA have to be so greedy? People WILL make custom units despite the lack of mod tools, so I doubt they would be losing many sales by releasing them. Also, all Total War games have needed mods to fix what CA seems incapable of getting right in any of the previous games, including campaign AI. I'm honestly not holding my breath for this one, I'll just go play some Paradox games instead.canceled my pre order due to the game being too consolized.

Gonna be one of the best games this gen, no doubt. With each iteration, the Total Wars series keeps improving, and this setting is my personal favorite. :)

Vercigentorix a legiontotalwar member (now TWCenter) made the tools by HACKING the files. Medieval 2 buildings files were HACKED by the community. "Those expecting revelatory improvements in areas like AI may be mildly disappointed by Shogun 2. Those after a sumptious, weekend-whittling strategy epic heaving with flavour and challenge can reach for their uchi-bukuro with confidence. This is a corker."

Those expecting revelatory improvements in areas like AI may be mildly disappointed by Shogun 2.BigBoss154That's really one of the only things they needed to improve :?
I played the first Shogun as a kid. Back then I tried to get into strategy games. The genre just isn't for me.
However, even I can tell quality when I see it, despite not being a fan of the genre. This is a AAA experience waiting to be unleashed. I say 9.0 on GameSpot. They won't score it the same as StarCraft II, but it'll be up there at least.

Rock Paper Shotgun:
So then. That battle AI. At easy and normal I didn't find it to be any real challenge. Larger armies were easily convinced into entering my traps, and would blindly charge my forces entrenched on higher ground. Cavalry thought it was okay to run headlong into spearmen, and so on. On hard they are rather more cautious, and more likely to flank you effectively. Not that it always works – baiting with weaker units still means you can often draw off cavalry, although they will almost always avoid being drawn into a dangerous position versus missile units. Hard difficulty and higher on the battle AI seems to mean the enemy forces simply put on a more effective display, with missile units retreating to higher ground, and units selecting an appropriate target to attack – although I have yet to see them properly move behind other infantry for protection. I suspect the limited number of units is part of what makes the AI more consistent, but it is also the careful use of cavalry. The hard AI does seem comfortable the kind of harrying and attacking from the sidelines that these units need to undertake. Additionaly, you won't encounter too much in the way of artillery (although there are plenty of siege weapons and such), and although firearms are present, the game leans less on simulating them, and more on pushing you towards melee.
This game looks simply amazing! I wish my PC could run it.
BTW, AAA easly.

My heart says AAA...
but my brain tells me AA. I have a feeling GS will take a cautious stance to this game.
Holy crap that looks awesome. I played the first one way back in the day, now my computer couldn't run this.
As usual GS will probably underrate it wrt the genre. Shogun will have a few drawbacks, it gets docked 1-1.5 points, but RTS with far less depth like Starcraft will get the same or better score despite being nowhere close to the quality of the TW series.
Dur... scouting+killing harvesters is a strategy... derp derp.
No, just no. Flanking, encirclement, feigned retreats, sieges, these are strategy, not zerg vs. protoss.
