No, there's nothing wrong with it.

No just take out key features and tell everyone that the features are 'last gen' Then put them back in and charge people for new controllers. Just like they did this gen...
lol! Really though?...Who gives a damn about any of that beyond the quality of the controller. A controller iconic status is about as important as a Kim Kardashian's love life. If I show any non-gamer a controller, their mind is going to register one thing -- it's meant to play video games. Brand regonizition on a controller doesn't mean anything.
It won't sell a console. It's not like its a game or something -- like Mario sells people on a Nintendo console or Halo selling people on a MS console. Besides, MS and Nintendo changed their controllers and they're doing just fine right?
TecmoGirl
It doesn't have to sell consoles, if it gets Sonys name in a conversation then it's job done. All they have to do is relate the controller to the system and the image of the controller has done its job. To you it may be an afterthought and not mean much but it means something to someone.
MS didn't completely redesign their controller, they just tweaked it a bit. It's still the same basic layout and colour scheme. Nintendo changed it over and over because the systems changed over and over. A dreamcast had a different controller than an N64 because they were different systems and need new controllers to differentiate themselves from one another. Sony hasn't changed theirs because they are all Playstation controllers. They follow a sequence and carry on from the last system. It's very different.
Lol At the ouya haha they copied xbox dc gc n64 as it is lol so no id rather have it the same as the ps2 controller get rid of that defective/always breaking trigger , can't stand it
The basic concept is solid on the DS. They just need to make it more ergonomic and curved to fit in your hands better. Similar to the 360 controller. Of course they also need to fix the triggers and the position of the triggers.
The insides are fine and the layout is ok, but I think it's held back by some sort of strange sense of pride.
The left analog stick is proven to be better when it's not so close to the other one, everyone else who designs a controller has done this.
The shape of the 360 controller just fits the human hand better. It's not really up for debate, it's just better contoured for the hand. MS copied it them selves they didn't come up with the shape.
Not a complete redesign, just some minor changes (like triggers and make it slightly bigger in size)..
I'm telling you, the 360 controller has the best and most comfortable shape of any modern controller; it's good Nintendo recognized that and aped it, I think Sony should do it too.Yes, Nintendo already have.
Its only a matter of time before Sony does the same

One thing that needs a redesign. That D-Pad design.

What? You gotta be joking. What has a better D-pad this gen?

Nintendo has a patent on their D-pads, and I just got he halo 4 360 controller with "transforming d-pad" and it's not even an improvement at all. It still sucks and doesn't feel right. Why couldn't MS make a good d-pad? Even sony has a pretty nice d-pad, the 4 separate arrows actually work quite nicely.[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="RR360DD"]

I have to agree with this. The 360 controller is by far the most comfortable and best designed controller for console or pc. Except if sony copies it, they would probably do a better job with the d-pad.Yes, Nintendo already have.

Tweak it? Sure. Namely the triggers. No big deal there, Sony tweaks it regularly over the years.
Complete redesign? No, the rest of the industry has slowly moved to ape it over the years, so unless osmeone comes up with a superior idea, the general design is likely going to remain.
Sony should add some more bulk to the handles so it isn't so light. I also wouldn't complain if they made the controller a bit wider so that my thumbs wouldn't rub together (I don't like the offset analogs on the 360 pad).
Lastly, the L2/R2 buttons should either be full fledged triggers, or buttons like the DS2 had. After excessive use, the triggers become flimsy and can be depressed by the slightest touch. After playing a lot of GTA, which used L2/R2 for driving, I could literally have the controller register button presses by shaking the controller. I ended up having the buy a new DS3 after that.

why you buy another one? did yours break?
ladies and gentleman... the 360 controller's quality!
Make the redesigned L2/R2 triggers concave, and just make the build quality more sturdy. Maybe even make the D-Pad into a typical Nintendo cross, like that one modded DualShock pic I saw that had a transplanted SNES D-Pad in it.NamelessPlayer
Nope. Patented by Nintendo.
Which is fine, because I actually think the separated design is better for non-movement applications like selecting weapons.
Obviously reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. A PS3 owner bought a 360 controller because they realized it was the better controller, but had to return it because it didn't work with their PS3. So it's obvious which control design PS3 owners really want...

I'm not joking. While the D-Pad works, the outside look of it is just bad and at times, feels uncomfortable. The insides are fine and the layout is ok, but I think it's held back by some sort of strange sense of pride.

what proof? I enjoy the stick placement more then the 360 ones.

oh.. the irony:P
Patented by Nintendo, perhaps, but why is it that I see a bunch of third-party gamepads with the same basic cross design, even for rival consoles, and Nintendo didn't sue the pants off of them?NamelessPlayer
Most often they tweak it so it's just different enough to evade infringement. But it's harder for Sony and MS to do that because they're much more visible and advantageous targets to Nintendo and their lawyers.
People always seem to say "The Dualshock is outdated" when they really mean "I don't like the Dualshock design". Do they imagine it makes their argument more valid or something?Cherokee_Jack
this person speaks the truth.
This is what it needed to be 7 years ago.
The only thing people complained about was that it looks like a banana, and yet I personally find bananas more enjoyable to hold than the dualshock, so I don't see the problem.
we KNOW Sony is going to make the PS4 controller more similar to the 360 controller.
And like somebody else already said, once Sony DOES, cows will hop on the bandwagon of whatever they do.
Not necessarily. But, Sony should make the DS3 more solid and durable like the 360 controller or 3rd-party PS3 controllers. The Sony-branded controllers really felt flimsy to me.
No, there's nothing wrong with it.Obviously_Right:| You can't seriously think this... can you? - the stick placement is wrong - the sticks are really loose - the ergonomics are complete sh!t - the "triggers" are the worst ever - the standard charge cable doesn't fit a proper HD living room The only positives are that it connects with Bluetooth, has a lithium-ion battery, a good d-pad and pressure sensitive buttons (that are easily replaced with proper triggers). It's due for a major overhaul. It was due in 2000 for one.
