360 games use compressed data and every time a game needs to load, the data needs to be decompressed either with RAM or in the HD. Bluray's space is utilized for decompressed data and this simple fact is why you will notice ps3 games have shorter loading times then 360.

Own both and this is untrue. Often the PS3 has longer loads, even after the install.

That is 100% not true. Also in almost all cases compressing and compressing data is tremendously faster than reading it off an optical drive uncompressed.

The 5-10 minutes you spend waiting for a PS3 game to install on your hard drive is probably equivalent with the amount of time sporadically spent on loading for a 360 game.

You should try playing a 360 instead of listening to other people. The 360 in my experience loads faster.

Every capcom game loads faster on the 360. IDK about everything else but they probably still load faster on the 360.

this mainly applies to sounds in game, they are read dynamically off an optical drive if need be, but they need to be decompressed first . you dont get loading times before every sound in a game, but if it is compressed it needs to be be decompressed first, loaded again, then ready for use.

The bluray player on the PS3 is slow. About the same speed as the Xbox's DVD player (I think its slitghtly slower actully).

Reading 5 times more data with the same speed takes 5 times as long speed.

This isn't everything but it sure is something. There is a reason the PS3 needs installs for many games.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. Data isn't primarily compressed so that it'll fit on disc, it's compressed so it'll fit in memory. Texture and audio data is kept in a compressed format in memory and is decompressed by the hardware when it is displayed or played.

yes there is a reason, it is because blu ray holds so much data that it would be more efficient to move some of it to HD instead of reading it off the disk.

Um, dude, it is because a Blu-ray drive reads at 9X as apposed to the 360's 16X. Why would Bioshock have a install? Is there magically more information on the PS3 version because of the Blu-ray? (just so ya know, the answer to the last question is "no")

Um, simple fact? PS3 games need to be installed a large proportion of the time, which takes much longer than any load differences. Besides, its not like 360 games take a LONG time to load by any means.

Xbox 360 Dvd is 16 mb/s and PS3 Blu-ray 9 mb/s. If I remember correctly.

The blu-ray has more room for data (Main argument for Blu-ray), thus the data can be less compressed. Five times more storage makes it possible to store Data that takes 5 times more room.

If you load 50 mb of compressed data from the xbox dvd, then it takes 3 seconds. If you load 200 mb uncompressed data (same data) from the Ps3 blu-ray it takes 21 seconds.

In order to have less compressed data (Relieve the Cell of some duties) its a good idea too have Installs as a complement.

Basicly, face it: Devs have less compression on PS3 games. The nearly only possible outcome of this is longer load times, or installs.

All consoles have proprietary compression hardware to do this work for them. Do the math on a large 2048x2048 32 bit texture that many games are using. You really think they decompress those into memory? Or what about audio? A typical .wma is about 6 megs compressed. In it's uncompressed raw PCM .wav format, its closer to 50 megs. You think they uncompress that into memory? Besides, I didn't say 'everything' was handled that way.

In theory the PS3 load times would be way longer because the Blu-Ray Drive has a read speed of 2x while the Xbox 360's DVD-ROM drive has a read speed of 12x. But this major difference is lessened because data is writen to the Blu-Ray disk 2-3 times to increase loading or mandatory installs are required.

doesnt get bigger, just uses more space because the data is kept decompressed. stylesPS3
No. Just no. Games are shipped on a number of digital tapes which are then burned to a disc. They dont compress one and not compress the other. Also; news flash, a compressed game loads faster than an uncompressed one. It's easier to read 50mb of data off a disc than it is to read 200GB.
